  1. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=68523 Havent been able to drive it off road yet but in AK you never know when your going off road:lol: Pete "rubber side down" :burnout: :burnout:
  2. Ok i thought that they were all first gen till the wrx came stateside in 02? just minor cosmetic changes, not full chassis changes but whatever:rolleyes: Its all good in the hood:grin: Now i just need an RS/OBS hood and finish my intake project, and ad my hella 500's in the bumper, and install my cd player, and and and...does it ever end:slobber:???? Pete "rubber side down" :burnout: :burnout:
  3. Actually, the lower perch on the leg struts was higher than the Imps i took off by about 1.5", and i guess that the forrester's are even higher but i just used the leg's cause thats what they had in stock and it was befoer i learned about researching on this and other boards. :-\ All i really used off the ej22 was the longblock, heads and oilpan, the intake manifold, injectors, and harness were all from the 18. I used a 94 cause it still had dual exhaust ports and dual port headers were cheaper than the single port models:confused:, also my car had dual ports to start with so if the headers didn't work for whatever reason i could go back to the stock manifold, didn't have to so the stocker got tossed. 4. Well its finally done, except for a few bug's and an allignment, i used Legacy Struts with Forrester Coilsprings and gained approx 3.5-4", rubs a bit on the front of the rear fenderwell when i slide around corners and on some bumps, nothing an airsaw cant fix but here she is riding on 205/75 R14 Glacier Grip snow tires. Converted to approx 26.1" x 8.07" R14 And if tha wasn't enough i also swapped out my old leakey ej18, and yes it was leakey for a ej22 out of a 94 Leggy with ~60k Miles added a aluminium pulley(wayyyy lighter, like a third of the wieght) borla headers, wrapped and sprayed with silicone sealant, Used the cats and muffler off a 99 LegGT The EJ22 used an EGR system and the 18 didn't, i used my 18 intake manifold to keep the wiring as easy as possible so i had to block off the egr on the block side. Now i just need an alignment, and a skid plate cause the lowest point in the front is the headers And i have a check engine light but its running pretty good, it ran kinda rough the first night i actually drove it and the light came on but then it cleaned up and is running really good now. Prolly just blowing some crap through the engine, im gonna change the oil on it sometime this week(yes i put fresh oil in it before i started the new motor but i figure anything that was in the engine would come loose in a week), add some engine restore brand additive and run with it. Im just bouncing off the walls:banana: Overall i gained about 40-50 horse and 4 inches of groundclearance, rigght now its riding on 205/75 r 14 snow tires, then when summer comes back im going to run some 215/40 zr 18 or even larger tires on the 18's, i currently have the 215/40 and they fit with just the leg struts, adding the coils im hoping to be able to fit 225/50's or somethng close:brow: more pix here http://s126.photobucket.com/albums/p113/dome24/ Pete "keep the rubber side down" :burnout: :burnout:
  5. So i drove it for a bit last night, the rear tires rub a bit on the front of the wells, air saw here we come, but other than that it ran really good. Not as strong as i was hoping for but its still re-breaking in. I got a check engine light after a while, it started running a bit rough but then it went away, the CEL is still on so i just have o hook it up to a scanner to see what happens. But so far so good. I posted some pix up at photo bucket http://s126.photobucket.com/albums/p113/dome24/ YAYY off to drive it more.:disco: :disco:  Pete "rubber side down" :burnout: :burnout:
  6. So after talking with my mechanic i decided not to freak out until i ran the motor a bit. He started it and ran it at the shop for a few hours then after work today i went out to check it out... Running like a top, still burning a little oil out the pipe but nothing like before, knock went away, but the oil filler tube is still pressurized but i guess thats normal... no speedo right now but i figure i just didn't quite have it right in the tranny side, ohwell i stll have my gps. ill post more and some pix tomorrow when i can get some light but anyways im out to drive it around a bit and see if anything pops up   :burnout: :burnout: Pete "rubber side down"
  7. IT RUNS!!! but it blows blue smoke smelling of oil, ticks like mad on the pass side front of the motor, and when i pulled the oil cap to add some additive to see what happend, but it was blowing air out the oil fill tube:confused:. we shut it down and called it a night at 1230 this morning after letting the car run for 10 minutes and plenty of time to get up to temp, which it did. I don't know what to do next, im really pissed, if i got a bad motor i got a bad motor i just hope the guy i got it from in the valley (DC or DS subaru something like that) will stand behind it. Otherwise it looks bad rump roast, sounded great other than the tick, no CEL's, responsive. Any advice anywhere? Pete:banghead:
  8. Today was a frustrating day, when we removed the fly wheel from the 1.8 we damaged the bolts pretty bad, but we figured we could use the 2.2's bolts, but we come to find out that the 2.2 bolts are from an automatic and are too short When i was at conti on saturday picking up seals and such, they didn't have any bolts in stock, but i figured they were just back up and didn't really need them anyways banking on the 2.2's to work But i didnt let that kill my spirits to much, i still had lots to do so i got to work on finishing the rear suspension with forrester coils, mounted up the snow tires and they look Bad@$$. I had 14.5 inches of groundclearance at the front bumper This is still without the tranny but thats just crazy Hopefully tomorrow I can find some flywheel bolts and mount the tranny and fire it up This thing is gonna be a monster Pete "Rubber side down" :burnout: :burnout:
  9. Well this weekend i finally started my swap project:clap:, heres the stats: 97 Impreza BrightonCoupe 140k Miles EJ18 Leaking oil like crazy 5sp, Swapping in EJ22 from 94 Leggy with 60k miles Underdrive Aluminium Pulley Platnum plugs New 02's New Borla SS Headers, wrapped and silicone sprayed 99 LGT cat's and muffler with nicer tip Forrester Coils on top of Legacy struts Ebay intake, probably gonna have to modify it to make it work but you never know. Been working on it all day sat and sun, after work today, argg im tired but i can't sleep im just to giddy, hopefully tomorrow ill get the flywheel on and the tranny back in fire it up and check the codes drive to somewhere for an alignment. And Driving it by this weekend. when all is said and done im hoping for a 50 horse and 4 inch lift over stock Brighton coupe, for right around $1300. HEHE I can't get done with work soon enough tomorrow, been driving the truck for a month and a half for work, no fun. Pete "Keep the rubber side down" :burnout: :burnout:
  10. Something like this? http://www.cornfedsuspension.com A lot of Tacoma wheelers run this type of lift, i chose to just use OME Landcrusier struts and springs on my Taco, and Forrester springs Legacy struts on my Imp Coupe. Pete "Keep the rubber side down" :burnout: :burnout:
  11. From my research it seems that only a EJ22 or EJ18 flywheel will work with the 22, im doing a 2.2 swap inplace of a 1.8 and im just going to resurface my old 1.8 flywheel be cause i can't find any good aftermarket flywheels for the 2.2, i would like to go for a lighterwieght aluminium one but they all seem to be for the 2.5 or 2.0 not 2.2. Keep me posted if you find a good replacement. Good Luck Pete "keep the rubber side down" :burnout: :burnout:
  12. ok i have a clutch kit coming but what flywheel? is the 94-95 2.2 different from the 96+ 2.2, i can find the latter but not the 94. im at a sticking point. which tranny/flywheel did you use in your swap?
  13. currently i have a cable clutch, im pretty sure. Its a brighton and i can't find any slave sylender, but i also can't find any cable adjuster... Pete "rubber side down":burnout:
  14. Ok thats what i figured for the plugs/o2 but can i use a 2.5 clutch flywheel? or even one off a WRX? What are the differences in them, do they all mount the same? any inexpensive reccomendations for the combo? Pete "rubber side down":burnout:
  15. Car-97 Imp Briton 1.8 Stock Engine 94 Leg n/a 2.2 Tranny-Stock Briton 5sp Exhaust-Borla 17183 Dual port headers, header back from 99 LGT I need to know what Clutch/Flywheel, plugs and o2 sensors i want to use, stock 1.8 or 2.2's to match the engine or 2.5's to match the exhaust. they all seem to be differnt part no. This is hopefully the final part(s) needed for the swap. I have everthing in hand except the headers, which hopefully will be coming monday, and the plugs/o2's/Clutch/Flywheel. Thanks Pete "keep the rubber side down":burnout:
  16. 97 Impreza Brighton Coupe 99 Legacy Sensatrac struts stock coils gain-1.5" fit 215/40 zr 18's for a bit, looked bad azzzzz like a little RC car, blew a tire and shipping up here is crazy:slobber: hopefully i can stash a little cash and get a new one by next year but noooo... got 205/40 16's on WRX split spokes and they look tiny but handle good, not as good as the 18's but still pretty wild:rolleyes: ive got forrester coils coming next week to fit my 205/75 14 stud's, the snow is here next summer im gonna try some 27" mudds on my 16" wrx rims and my 215/18 setup for different conditions, all and all ive really only spent just over $1k for 3 sets of rims and tires and the lift:burnout: OTS HEy AK guys, im gonna be doing an intake/motor/header/exhaust/suspension swap next weekend if any body wants to lend some subi knowledge or an extra wrench hit me up.
  17. Ok so i have a 97 Impreza Brighton Coupe and i dont' think i have i rear sway, ive found the front one easily enough, but in the rear i can't seem to find it:eek:, or even where it would mount. Ive seen pix of them on other cars so i know sort of what im lookin for but nothing seems to be there. What do I do? Can i use any old sway off an impreza? i know lots of people just give em away, anyone want to help a brother out and "sponser" my project:brow: i would pay shipping if someone has one just collecting dust and taking up space in the shop Thanks either way Pete
  18. OTS but can i use this homemade scanner on my 97 Impreza? If not is there another one that i can? Thanks, id love to be able to look at my ecu without having to shell out $5k for a snap on scanner. Pete
  19. I have a bad leak in my 97 coupe, i tracked it down to the pass side rear wheel well, with the trunk open if i look back and up in the p/r i can see light leaking thru. so if light can go thru i figured water can too. i pulled all the "carpet" out and felt around and had lots of water stuck down inside the fender, im not sure quite yet how im gonna get it all out or how to stop it. I thought about spray foaming the weel well from the outside but im not sure if that will stop it all. I got the car in the winter and it had been sitting for a fwe months, took it into a buddys shop to clean it out and realised the entire sparetire well was a solid block of ice, spare, jack, lug wrench, and a few other random tools, gone the way of the cave man. I thought about pulling the plug in the bottom of the trunk to help but it won't get all the water by any strech. oh well ill try it anyway. When i get new taillights/mine are cracked, ill be sure to seal them up really good.
  20. I put 99 Leg struts on my 97 imp with the stock coils and tophats, i gained an inch and a half or so, but its just not nearly stiff enough, if i push on the trunk it goes down really easy but bounces right back into place solidly. I want it a little stiffer so i can put stuff in the trunk without riding nose high, so im thinking about getting some sport <h&r, eibach etc> coils for an outback, so even if they do lower an outback, they would lift an impreza. This idea has been killing me for months im just not sure if it ll work. Most of my driving is around town so i want a better handling car but i still rock it off road and the snow is coming soon so i like the lift
  21. I have wet @$$ on my Tacoma and i love them, they are so much more comfy but the only problem is that they are kinda fragile, i had a buddy jump in with something in his pocket and tear teh crap out of my pass side. They arent that easy to clean either, but its a truck. Next time though i think id save teh $250 and just get a cheaper neoprene "NX Racing" ones, still comfy neoprene but way cheaper
  22. So this guy gets stuck in the mud, i cant pull him out with my tacoma, my boss comes in his 76 chevy and promptly blows up his transfer case:eek:, another built chevy with a winch comes down to pull my boss out FREEWHEELING cause his t case was toasted. Winch guy ripps the bumper off his own truck:lol: and gets all sorts of ticked off cause theres a bunch of people around by now watching this whole ordeal, 3 built Chevys stuck in the mud, then from out of nowhere we see this old skool subi without a hood come flying around the corner and thru the mud hole in front of all of us, towing another kid who's surfing the hood at about 25 thru the mud hole and accross the pond:headbang:. I damn near was rolling in the mud laughing. No real point other than a story with the subi's upstaging the "real" 4x guys
  23. hmm this sounds like it mite work, it seemed that it just wasn't "snugging up" in the mount hmmmmm:rolleyes:
