  1. Ive been running Forester coils on Legacy struts for a few years, gained about 3-4 inches, i was topping out my rear struts recently, so i picked up some Forester GR2's to hopefully fix that issue. But im wondering if i even have enough weight with my coupe to even get into the suspension, or if im just gonna top out like mad...:-\ times will tell. Is it as easy as running WRX lateral's to fix the camber? im running bolts right now but its still a little positive. How were you planning on extending your trailing arms? My Castor is unbelieveable I had 26.5" snowtires with the leg/for combo on my 97 Coupe
  2. Well i got the frame straitend, a little, the bumper rebuilt, a fender should be here monday, got new front glass, just gonna put in a aftermarket steering wheel w/o airbag for the time being and just pull the pass bag, gonna paint the split spokes tomorrow, got new 215/55 r16 Riken Raptors today for a deal they come out to about 25.3 x 8.4 or about an inch shorter but .25 inch wider than my snows:banana:. Ive never heard of Riken but aparently they are like BFG's little brother, a good lookin tire and for well under a c-note installed with roadhazard each they are a deal, see what happens with em. Anywho, after i hang the fender im gonna try to get a reconstruct title and get it re registered and a new plate ordered next week. I still have to find a RS/OBS hood, but i can use my stocker for now, but then a paint job and i think ill be done LOL:headbang: Pete "rubber side down"
  3. wow i wish i had found this thread last year, ive been trying to get rid of this noise forever http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=68523&page=3. But right now my car is being stretched back into place, gonna add a RS hood, new fender and new 225/60 rubber on my wrx 16's, the washer is something else to do while its down. Finally a cure for that horrible noise im hoping camber bolts can bring me closer to spec but the rear caster:dead:?? What scares me is that my inspection was due yesterday and now with the car being totalled they need to do more of a look anyways, so im not sure whats gonna happen, lift+engine swap+headers but no CE lights so im hoping the tech doesn't look at the EJ22 brand on top of the motor I have put way more time into this car than ive had it on the roadhttp://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/images/smilies/perplexed.gif :-\ Pete "rubber side down"
  4. Well after someone decided to make a left in front of me, Im left with a car with blown air bags, a mashed front end, a bent "frame" and a $2700 check from the insurance Co. I don't know how much it would cost to fix the frame, or even get it close, or even if its worth it to try. Ive priced the hood and fender for ~$600 pre paint/install, but i don't really want to order them if the frame is beyond repair. Any body people want to help out? how bad does it look really? To me it looks bad but i don't know. Should i scrap it get an OBS and swap the lift AARRRRGGG im so torn. Pete "rubber side down" :burnout: :burnout:
  5. Thats really what it sounds like, and with it moving in the top it makes perfect sence but I have tried to get that bolt as tight as i could with vise grips on the shaft and and impact gun on the nut, pretty damn tight. Is there supposed to be a washer on top of the strut between the strut and the top that pinches everything togethor that i maybe missed... does anyone have an exploded veiw of the rear strut or know where i can get one? Do you think that maybe i need another new Tophat cause this one has just been loose for a year? ps I was able to get enough tension off the springs with the compressor to keep the tension off the top hat while i installed them. I don't think the alignment issue is related to the noise, but is important cause its all related in the suspension world. Pete "rubber side down"
  6. Sorry i thought i already did then i went back and read the whole thread and realized i hadn't... Its a knocking or popping noise, like a dull metal to metal or something loose somewhere, thats why i brought up the moving top nut in the top hat. it happens whenever i hit a bump or sometimes as i pull away under acceleration. Increadably annoying sound, and its getting louder and more frequent:mad: Pete "rubber side down"
  7. Neither do i but i figure if i put out all the symtoms and start replaicng $tuff, sooner or later ill find it... Pete "rubber side down"
  8. I have had a noise that comes from the right rear, i originally thought that it was a busted strut, replaced the stockers with Monroe sensa tracs for 99 Leg non OB, they wereabout 2 Inches taller from the top of the mount to the bottom of the spring cup. than the Imps Still had the noise and noticed that i could see the top nut move in the TopHat under compression so i replaced both rears with KYB Oem replacemnts. Still moved and stil made noise. When i added the 99 Forrester Coils the noise just got worse...I wasn't really expecting it to fix the problem but it defiently did get worse. Thinking about it the last things it could be would be the bushings in/or control arms, trailing arms, or maybe even the wheel bearing. I think if i added adjustable control arms with poly bushings it could kill two birds with one stone, noise and camber... i hope
  9. The higher COG isn't that noticible, right now it doesn't roll it just slides. But once i go back to big summer rubber we'll see how it goes, the forrester springs are pretty stiff, and i added strut top bars to help... The noise is getting worse by the day though, ive got to figure it out soon, Pete "rubber side down"
  10. Basics 97 Impreza Brighton Coupe KYB Top Hats 99 Legacy non OB Struts 99 Forrester Coil Springs http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=569876#post569876 I figure I might have better luck posting in the off road section Thanks for any New/Old Skool Help:cool: Pete "rubber side down" :burnout: :burnout:
  11. Anythings possible the way i drive:lol: but i nothing looked bent from underneath, i wish i had checked my bushings while i was under there but now i don't have access to the lift, so its back to floor jacks and 2x4's. After thinking about it for a while, i think im gonna order new control arms(the ones that run laterally) that come with new bushings and possibly adjustable, something like this http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop/whiteline-wrx-sti-lateral-links-p-2543.html but i don't know what the lengths are for different models or if they are all the same length/width. I like these cause they are adjustable for differnt widths. But with the Trailing arm, im not sure what im gonna do. I don't know if they are longer on the bigger cars, forrester outback etc.. But if they arent' Maybe moving the stud ,that it mounts to, further back, or maybe just custom building the arms, then i just have to figure out some sort of bushing....:-\ Pete "rubber side down" :burnout: :burnout:
  12. I started with the struts, added the coils but now everything is just so out of whack, i just want it to allign straight and be safe. I found adjustable trailing arms which i think will help the camber, but the castor is still fooling me, everting ive found is saying that Trailing arms are all the same length so im still kinda stuck. PEte
  13. Ok start with the basics, 97 Impreza Coupe, 99 Leg no OB struts, 99 Forrester Coilsprings, "professionally alligned", $80 range:eek:, to no where within spec but its to much fun to really care right now, and it drives fine, but come summer time im gonna need it fixed. Looking at it I believe that the trailing arms were longer it would help the castor issue, along with maybe camber bolts to help on that end, maybe the bars that run from the diff mount area to the lower part of the caliper, sorry i don't know all the part names:dead:. but these http://images.andale.com/f2/104/128/12637619/1141672870630_67640ill.jpg What i need to know is if the parts from a forrester or an outback/Leg would be longer or not, im pretty sure they'd at least fit, subi's are lego's as i already know ( i already have parts from 5 different Subi models on my Impreza Brighton Coupe:headbang:) But before i go spending more money/time on parts i want to at least have an idea if they are gonna give me what i want. 14. I did think of that, the tank is about half full, but i pulled it off the bank and leveled it out and didn't get anything, put a bottle of HEET in it to break up any water that could be there, no go. I can't hear the pump, but i am hard of hearing anyways, so i pulled off the supply line to the filter and cranked on the key and had no pressurein the line. The wierd thing is parked the same way the night before and it all went ok, i checked the oil and everthing after it warmed up and drove all day for work, just day 2 didn't go as well. the oil level is fine and doesnt look contamitanted at all, only a few hundred miles. Found out today i get a 3 day, and its warming up:clap: maybe i can get something done this weekend Pete rubber side down :burnout: :burnout:
  15. Ok so my 97 Imp used to be a 1.8w/o EGR, swapped out for a 94 2.2 w/EGR, i used teh 1.8 Intake and blocked off the EGR on the block side. Ran Great for a few hudred miles ~3 weeks, I parked on a snow bank one night at a pretty steep angle, probably 40 deg with the drivers side low. The next morning i went out started it , ran bak in for a shower, go to leave and the windows are thawed but the car not running. It was probably 10-15 F so it had to run for at least 10 minutes. Cranked on it for a bit and no fire, it has spark but no fuel at the filter. So im thinking its the fuel pump but i don't know how to get to it:-\ . It would make sence that it would be under an access panel in the trunk but i don't know exactly. I know its a dumb Q but its to cold outside, -10F, to do some playing around in the car til i know what im doing, im not gonna break something else fixing something:dead: So any advice on doing the replacement on a 97 Coupe? Pete "rubber side down" :burnout: :burnout:
  16. Wow thanks for the tip about the rear fender, i was wondering if it was a pass thru to teh cab. Guess ill have to have him put a bead of weld on teh edge to be safe against water damage. I didn't cut much, maybe a half inch on the deep and an inch long off the bottom of the front of the fender. does your noise sound like it comes form the top nut? thats the one that ive had since day one with the legacy struts (not outback), i only added the forrester coils almost a year later, now teh strut cup on the bottom rubbs the inner fender wall a little, but i can just pound that in a little. But the top sound drives me NUTZ:dead: . Do you have any pix of your lifted coupe? id like to see another one:headbang: Pete "rubber side down" :burnout: :burnout:
  17. I got mine on Ebay for $308 shipped to AK!!! in 3 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unbeliveable, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BORLA-HEADERS-HighFlow-SUBARU-LEGACY-17183_W0QQitemZ8041922997QQihZ019QQcategoryZ33630QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Pete "rubber side down" :burnout: :burnout:
  18. i got 1.5-2" from the struts, then the coils added another 1-1.5". The struts are fully extended and the coils are pretty pre-loaded, i think if i had a strut that had more travel it would allow the coils to un-load a little and give more lift, i seem to remember reading somewhere that the forrester AGX's have more travel, . Pete Rubber side down :burnout: :burnout:
  19. Im pretty sure the AGX's or whatever have more travel, I was thinking Like forrester AGX's like Andyjo used. PEte Rubber side down :burnout: :burnout:
  20. I used Sensa-trac shocks for a 99 Legacy, No OB, which were about 1.5" taller than the imps that i removed, then the Forrester coils stretched the struts all teh way out, and gave another 1.5-2", plus the up sized tires give almost 4inces over stock. I kinda want a longer travel strut i think it would help, i havent been able to really romp on it cause of the fender rub, but soon:clap: Pete "Rubber side down" :burnout: :burnout:
