Weber 32/36 VS Holley carb
Thanks for the replies. I had never really gotten any "low down" on the Holleys before. Since I found some of them cheap on "the 'bay" I figured it was prudent to "look before you leap"

Weber 32/36 VS Holley carb
I know that "you get what you pay for" but Im curious to hear from anyone that could give me some insight as to the difference between the famous Weber 32/36.... and the look-alike Holley brand. They have them listed here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Holley-Carburetor-modeled-as-Weber-32-36-2bbl-Vega_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33550QQihZ023QQitemZ360035913874QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Doesnt seem like a bad price, and I know that Holley isnt famous for making crap. Comments? Opinions?

Opinions please... maintenance at high mileage
backwoodsboy replied to chiguy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf the overall condition of the car is good, I would say that mileage in the low 200 thousands is not that bad. Consider the fact that you KNOW the car has been taken care of, and when properly cared for.... the ej22s dont mind the miles. 200,000 worth of beating would be a different story.

Are these rust repair panels correct? (Gen II GL/DL wagons)
Has anybody ever ordered from these guys? http://www.rustrepair.com/repair_panels/onlinecat.htm?r=ru&p=sm **sorry, no direct link** Go to "SUBARU", then select "Subaru Sedan/Wagon 80-94" Im all set to send in an order for 1984 Gen II rocker panels. The PICTURE looks correct, but the "year range" that the site is specifying has me second-guessing. :-\ Are these LOYALE panels (and the PICTURE is just wrong) .... or are they truly GEN II? Thanks

EA81 Gas Sipper
Try a little do-it-yourself water injection (there are plans on the 'net everywhere) Ive done it to quite a few of my rides. If done right, you can run your engine a little leaner, and advance your timing a little more.

Strut BOTTOM lift? (as opposed to strut TOP lift)

Strut BOTTOM lift? (as opposed to strut TOP lift)
Well, I put 'er up on the lift last night at the garage, and the situation seemed to call for one of two things. A) Something like this (look ma! No fat spring perches!) in combination with a strut TOP lift: (although it seems a crime to cover up adjustable shocks with a strut top lift block) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MEGAN-RACING-FLEX-COILOVER-DAMPER-98-01-SUBARU-IMPREZA_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33631QQihZ012QQitemZ220212520236QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW#ebayphotohosting OR Run some wheels with significantly less negative offset (which will only lead to other troubles, I know) Looks like this isnt going to be for those who are "faint of cash" :-\

**UPDATED WITH PICS** EA/EJ Flywheels Redrilled &/or Resurfaced (in Upstate Ny)
Hey folks, Just to let everyone know, I have reached a deal with a local machinist in my area to do a run of redrilled & resurfaced flywheels for EJ swaps. The first one will be for the current swap that Darlingchip and I have been working on. I may have several other extras run off if I can round up the flywheels. Price should be about the same as Scott in WA charges , but I thought Id throw this out there as a service for us east coasters to maybe save some shipping. Work done by a professional machinist, and flywheels will be milled out... no drill bits involved. EA82 or XT6... your choice. Send me your flywheels! $80.00 redrilled $215.00 drilled and resurfaced Work is top notch as you can see. Everything gets bead blasted and hot dipped. PM me if interested

Carlisle show May 16-18 2008
When I bought my yellow Baja, I took a LOT of "ragging on" about it. So many people thought it was ugly (and of course I was entitled to their opinion) :-\ I also took a ton of flack from where I worked (I bought it from Subaru while I was employed at Toyota... talk about stirring up a hornets nest) All this really got to me, but I finally had to see it like it was.... that I liked it enough to shell out $325.00 a month (plus insuance) to have the friggin thing, and that if someone ELSE liked it, well, GREAT! ...if NOT, they could go to hell. This all being said, its up to Connie. Id like to see her show the '08... but its whatever she wants to do. This isnt as much about the cars as it is about showing up. (My .02)

Strut BOTTOM lift? (as opposed to strut TOP lift)
If I end up going this route, I will ASSUREDLY post pics. The Forester has a 2-bolt setup. (one being an adjustable camber bolt) I know it would take some precision measuring and fabbing, but so does a strut top spacer. Im just kindof fishing for anybody that has ever done (or almost done) this before...

Strut BOTTOM lift? (as opposed to strut TOP lift)
Hey folks, I know the preferred method for lifting a subaru is a subframe lift along with strut-top spacers. This worked really nice for the EA cars, but Im toying with the idea of a lift for a 98 Forester. I know there are lift kits available, and they incorporate the strut top spacers. While this does lift the vehicle very well, it still leaves the lower spring perches of the struts an inch or less from the tops of your tires. :-\ This would of course effectively kill the mounting of significantly larger tires. There was talk a while ago about someone who re-welded the spring seats further up on the struts, but in so doing... you lose suspension travel. MY QUESTION : Is it a do-able thing to re-work the BOTTOM of the strut where it bolts to the knuckle? I know you'd still have to drop the subframe with spacers.... but it seems lifting from the strut bottom would give you the height you want.... it would get the lower spring seats away from the tops of the tires, and you'd keep all your strut travel! Ideas? Discussion?

MY97 2.2 caught the SLAP?

Loose seats in an EA81..and its not the bolts
Nah. Dont bother cleaning. We'll all just pretend its "shop night" and eat supper out there! We'll just use Steve's hood as the table. ....on second thought

forester lift springs.....
I have been looking into doing the same thing myself. However, the Foresters have very limited clearance for larger tires. Mainly due to the lower spring seat(s) in the back. I have 205/70/15s on my forester.... and I cant fit my pinky into the space I have left between the top of the tire and the bottom seat on the rear struts. There is a guy on the Forester forums that re-welded the seats higher on the struts....that worked nicely. You CAN also get lift blocks for the strut tops and subframe. This will get you lift.... but not bigger tires per-se.

$170. for a fuel filler pipe? wow.Ideas?
I *very carefully* hacksawed the rusty section out, and clamped in a piece of fuel resistant hose. A couple bucks at Napa sure beat 170 for the stealership!

1997 Legecy snow plow
backwoodsboy replied to screwbaru2's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI thought we were just talking about plowing a driveway? If you put an ATV plow on (and attached it right) and just did small stuff like your driveway, I dont see why it wouldnt last a reasonable time. You could GET a plow setup for the early soobs. It wasnt a "Subaru-factory" type accessory... but you could get em.

backwoodsboy replied to screwbaru2's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThey are for towing purposes. Towing behind a motor home that is. About the snow plow.... I have wanted to do an ATV plow setup on my wagon for a couple years now. I personally know a guy that used a Geo Tracker plow setup, and with a (custom built) frame... put a snowplow on a Kia Sportage! If a friggin SPORTAGE can do it, our subies SURE can

Subaru Competition
This is a great thread! Incidentally, it was these types of threads/lists, coupled with the fact that "youre still DRIVING IT!?" ...that attracted me to this board in the first place. Brought back memories of my Mom's 79 4WD wagon. Here we were, summer 1987, loaded to the max with county fair entries/plants....my sister and I... and the whole mess is stalled dead in the middle of the steepest hill in the county becasue the gas tank was so rusty it clogged the fuel filter every week. Heres my mom.... under the hood, 100 degrees... changing the filter like it was nothing. (she got pretty quick at it) Back hatch was held shut with slide bolts because the latch was rotted off. Floors were rarely messy because any garbage would fall through the rust holes. I miss that wagon.
