  1. It should screw right out. You can check for operation by having someone turn the key to "ON" (not start) while you listen for a -click- from the valve.
  2. Very nice! ......let it ROLL!
  3. That sucks.... Scrap steel is pretty high right now. I think it is 2 hundred + (per ton) in NY state.... not sure about down south there. A non-rusted out 78 brat should be worth at LEAST 400 bucks.... even NOT running these days. Offer him 300.... get the darn thing titled... and we'll help you get it runnin good!
  4. Cool Steve! Glad I could help. If you have a CarQuest nearby, I just got a SWEET clutch (disk only) for like 60 bucks! It is sold under the Paraut brand name... but it is straight from Japan, and is O.E. quality. Ive had real great luck with Paraut parts.
  5. The outer diameter of the DISK isnt the main "problem" point here. My main question was actually as to the size of the splined center.... If the clutch alignment tool doesnt fit into your old clutch disk "center" .... that means that you have the wrong disk in there now.
  6. Yeah... match them up when you get a chance. An EA82 disk is the "next size up" from where you want to be. PM me back and let me know.
  7. Jess would appreciate that. She will eat them ALL.
  8. ....also, did your new clutch come with an "alignment" tool? If so.... that should match the splines and size of the "new" clutch disk that is installed in there now. Go match it up with the splines and size of the OLD clutch disk (hopefully you havent 'pitched it yet.)
  9. if those are indeed pics of your throwout bearing (new and old) .... it looks like they sent you a clutch for an EA82 or XT6 :-\ This is going on an EA81 engine, mated to the EA81 4SPD stick shift tranny..... right?
  10. Steve, are you SURE you have the right clutch? Did you test-fit the splined clutch-disk onto the splines of the tranny input shaft to make sure? You should not be getting ANY additional sound when the clutch is depressed.... especially with a new t/o bearing.
  11. FYI Tim.... my brat has its fuel pump wired straight to an ignition-switched 12V+ wire. Never had any problems. I also have an extra carby-fuel pump and/or fuel pump RELAY if you DO need em.
  12. Ok folks, The 2008 Carlisle show is upon us. Lets post up some food and camping ideas... and whos bringing what. Ill go first. Jess and I will be bringing paper plates, a coleman stove, pot and pan, and some jugs of H2O. (and we're gonna camp on-site) ** ....Hey Matt, can I get a sticky for this? **
  13. 9 DAYS!!!! Tim, hows the brat coming? If the Whirly's are bringing theirs, and you bring yours... then Darlingchip's will be #3! 3 Brats @ Carlisle ....
  14. What the heck.... *shrugs* Steve and I were talking about changing an AXLE at the show. This IS the subaru crowd, after all.
  15.  Dontcha just love it? I posted a similar story back when I first joined. Mine was (is) an '83 wagon. Weeds growing out of the seat and everything. Fuji's quality STILL amazes me.
  16. I said to Connie the other day, that if the Datsun crowd gets all uppity again, we should have an old school muffler-rapping contest
  17. Thanks for the replies everyone! I did indeed get it all apart last night (no sheared off bolts) *whew* The MAPP torch worked like a charm.
  18. looks really good! ...how big is it gonna be?
  19. Thats lookin good! I know she'll be all purdy'd up for Carlisle.
  20. Im on the website now. I used the high temp, because it was a clutch, and prone to high heat.... but Ive been wrong before.
  21. Thanks for the reply. I normally wouldnt have used loctite, but this flywheel is gonna be sitting behind an ej22.... so I wanted to be sure.
  22. Hey everyone, 1989 ea82 4x4 flywheel. Approx 1 month ago was assembled (the 6 pressure plate bolts) with high temp (600 degree) loctite. **problem** ...now I have to take it apart, as the clutch DISK inside is the wrong one (DONT ask) I dont wanna heat it with my MAPP torch, for fear of messing with the spring steel of the pressure plate...... BUT.... the 6 bolts in question are only torque-spec'd to 12 ft/lbs, so I know they are soft.... and I dont wanna snap them off flush = FUBAR Without heat, what will release first, the loctite.... or will the bolts snap? Does anyone have any experience with breaking this stuff loose? Thanks very much!
  23. Jess and I will be bringing a portable gas stove like last year, with some pots and pans, plasticware and paper plates. (the camping kit) I *do* have coffee filters in there, but they are the flat bottom ones. If the coffee maker takes the "cone" type, I dont have those.
