  1. Jess and I will be driving down on Friday. We should be there late afternoon Im guessing. We're planning on camping on-grounds friday night... staying for saturday... camping saturday night too. We usually hang out sunday as well (at least until the raffle is over) Right Matt?
  2. Woah My hats off to Tommy if he does that for ya! ALSO : Im all for coming to the show DRIPPING with mud! (I almost did that year before last) My brat is 67% MORE badass than it was at the last show... nothing says hot truck like mud!
  3. +1 After one good "we're gonna look back on this and laugh" moment... (good story to tell at the show) she fired right up! Now I gotta get some miles on that motor so I can re-torque the heads and seat the rings before the trek to Carlisle!
  4. Steve, Good to finally hear from ya man! Funny how much $$ a car project can suck out of ya huh? That BLOWS about not being at Carlisle... :-\ Guess its just going to be a lean year. Maybe we can do a summer get-together when all settles down.
  5. Your welcome to come and hang with us! ANY subarus coming with you?
  6. Then it MUST be something we did along the way, as the motor itself is merely a mechanical entity, and carries no electricity. :-\
  7. A nice little tip I always give out concerning front axle troubles.... WHEN the time comes for front wheel bearing replacement, take your old garbage bearings and pound the centers out. (harder than it sounds) This will give you 2 perfectly sized rings to pull your axle through the new bearings. These also have the added advantage of a large enough "center" to allow the splines to pull through, not just the threaded end. and with the installation of tight new bearings ... youre gonna need it!
  8. When I had my baja I popped the air intake apart just before it went into the air filter box. Did seem to improve low-end a little... and I actually liked the low growl I got under HARD acceleration.
  9. Ill have to follow this thread. Stiffer springs = better With a load on, the back end of my EA82 wagon sags like day-old buffet lettuce.
  10. With a professional rebuild, you shouldnt have troubles with rings... they should be long seated by now. I HAVE seen the occasional customer that "goes easy" on a new motor, mistakenly thinking it will prolong the life of the engine if they dont push it. Drive it hard and hot for a couple days. If that doesnt seat your rings, nothing will.
  11. 1986... Im assuming we're talking EA82? The swap I did was into an EA81 chassis, BUT I got the tach to work! You have to tap in somewhere to get a "tach signal" in order for the ECU to function. I tapped into the Fuel pump relay, and the tach signal ended up back-feeding to the tach! What a bonus!
  12. I have had a few customers that ordered them through us. The general consensus seemed to be that they didnt make enough difference for the $... but thats just what Ive heard.
  13. The straight answer is.... the door jamb pressure IS what is RECOMMENDED. However, the tpms sensors are finicky, and your dealer probably set them a little high to keep the light off for you. We have this happen all the time in the shop here. It wont hurt your tires to run 4-5 psi over, and the light gets annoying.
  14. +1 on what Darlingchip said Matt : How many cars do we lack? I think that it is always a good showing... heck, last year ended up being GREAT! I for one take a lot of pride being in the "CLUB" and think we do very well considering we are on the east coast. I have spent WAY too much $$ and time getting ready for this show. Remember... there are always many more that attend besides those who post on USMB. We can always register a couple more. EDIT: Perhaps this year we can hand out some "literature" to the folks who attend but are not USMB members. (I can think of at least 5 from last year) Even if they dont think theyll be able to "hang out" on USMB like we do... they will be in-the-loop for next year and can register for the club site.
  15. I have been working my A$$ off trying to get my brat together for the show. Since I WORK for the dealer now, I can also bring a goodie or two. I scored a whole flat-pack of subaru posters and calendar magnets to give away!
  16. it is NOT. We do them here in the shop all the time, and we hardly EVER change that hose.
  17. Looks GOOD! I hear you about the "done with winter" thing. We're still running the woodstove! Here's to REAL spring.
  18. Oh CRAP! I forgot about this... When we put the new motor in, the fan was NOT kicking on as it should be... and we DID wire the cooling fan to the hot side of the ign coil. I thought that that powered down with the ign though?!
  19. Part # is 723146020. At the time of this post... there are 128 left in the country. PM me if you want to order them.
  20. Hey Connie.... I JUST remembered something. When we were putting your engine together, and specifically when we were wiring the alternator... I remember there being an INSULATING washer (grommet) around the positive post where the heavy wire bolts to the back of the alternator. If that got lost, dropped, left out... whatever... wouldnt that create a short to ground? Check the post. Id be willing to bet thats it.
  21. Keep in mind that the pistons on the early calipers needed to be compressed AND turned at the same time. In other words... if you put a C-clamp on the pistons and crank em down you WILL be buying calipers.
