rod knock in the Brat.... ugh!
75subie replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i`d probly trade you a running gen 1 brat for your gen 2 needing a motor:brow: lol....... but seriously:brow: i wish the gen 2 i just bought only needed a motor, its got rust/dents/interior/fuel pump issues -
thanks for the deal Adam! yea, stay in touch man, i will take your offer on the wheels if you come down this way some time, or i might be able to bring them up sometime. i am pretty sure the bell housings are the same, but thanks for the heads up. the paint on the brat looks to be the original color, not sure if it is the original paint. if you are down this way sometime, stop and check it out. take care, Jon ps. my email address is ruppenduro@yahoo.com

not if they don`t know what it is in the box:brow: the tank has been dried out well though. i did a rough estimate for the quote, but i`ll get you exact measurements tommorow.

Subaru3 shipping comes to about $35, if you want, make me an offer on the tank. it comes with the filler tube and gas cap. i probly will end up swapping the motors in the summer, right now, i have to work on the new gen 2 and try to get it to daily beater status, which will be a ton of work, also have to stop the rust before it gets any worse. thanks for the replies, Jon

that might happen, the gen 2 i just bought needs a ton of work, really alot more than i had bargained for:mad: hopefully it turns out alright

just want some suggestions...... i am thinking about modding my 78 brat: http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d118/ruppenduro/wheels33018.jpg i just picked up an FE higher comp motor complete with weber 32/36 carb, would it be worth switching out the standard ea71 for the fe engine, or would i be better off just switching the carbs? i am looking to get some decent power out of this unit. just bought a 2.5 inch glasspack to mount under there, going 2.5 from the y-pipe back to the glasspack with a chrome tip. also might try running it in rear wheel drive for a while to light the tires up when at a stop light next to a honda:grin: how about those MSD ignition control systems? i was thinking of doing the electronic disty swap and topping it off with one of these, super sport coil, accel wires/plugs. with all these mods, this thing should push some decent power, let me know your suggestions. thanks Jon PS. anybody interested in a beautiful complete FE coupe gas tank? it is show quality. also have a complete oem FE exhaust y-pipe back to the chrome tip, also in exellent shape.

that thing is teh hottness:grin: how hard was it to make the body lift blocks? what type of material did you use? i am thinking of doing the same thing if there isn`t much welding involved.

yea, maybe that is the way to go, the glass pack actually has quite a bit of weight to it, so that will also put some strain on the piping. i am going to try and make some rubber hangers too. -

i will be doing something simular when it warms up outside. i just went today and picked up a 2.5 inch thrush glass pack, and some piping and clamps since i don`t know how to weld:mad: it should sound pretty sweet, going to do a single so i don`t sacrafice back pressure. and then a big chrome tip to top it off:grin: do you guys thing the glass pack should go up towards the y-pipe or towards the back? -
EA82T trans price. Good or bad?
75subie replied to colin edge's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
seems pretty fair to me if you can pick it up and its already pulled. a junkyard would be about $50-100 but you have to pull it yourself. -

MSD ignition control questions
75subie replied to 75subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
these are what i was thinkin of: http://www.msdignition.com/ignition_8_6470.htm http://www.msdignition.com/ignition_9_8769.htm i`ll get the coil to go with them if i can afford this system, and if there is good feedback on it. -
anybody running an MSD ignition control? what model would best fit an 86 BRAT? will there be a good power increase? i heard from a friend that the increase is awesome, so i am trying to find some info on what ignition would be best. oh yea, are they pretty easy to install? thanks Jon
