  1. Well then that is pretty cool:cool: Kinda voids the lifetime warranty thoe, huh?
  2. Whats the differance between a full size and an A style brush guard? I'v still got the one off my 81 Safari wagon, what style would that be?
  3. Thats a very good sugestion, NAPA has many sizes of premade brake line with metric fittings. Tip: if your not sure get it a few inches longer, you can always add a few bends to make it longer.
  4. Good question, my SVX is sporting an SOA battery. I don't think it's original but it does OK, anymore that 2weeks with out starting and it feels a little low. I'm running a NAPA Orbital in my Loyal now, it has a good sence of humer went it comes to having to crank alot. It also does a better job of keeping the volts up when I'm winching.
  5. Oh, thats why. Just add a set of rear disks, replace that master with one from a Loyal and eliminate the proportioning valve. Thats what I did on my 81 wagon and let me tell you, that thing would do 4wheel lock up 180's with out a problem:eek:
  6. So they are a custom spring or just a spring for something else that happend to have the right specs for you? I assume you are using stock struts up front? I think the biggest prob is that the stock strut doesn't have alot of travel in it. Ever think of getting some inserts for the strut bodys to give some extra droop and compression?
  7. Oh the sorrows of thoes without flare kits:( Sorry no real good advice on how to get it off and still be able to reuse the line. Vice grips would have been your best bet, but still a chance you might not be able to reuse the line. Why are you changing the hill holder anyway?
  8. Well that is an interesting setup, What kinda springs are you using up front to support the extra weight? BTW. Your BRAT is badass!
  9. Thanks I'll take a look for it. I've seen some pics of a BRAT with a set up like that in it but I have no idea where I came across them.
  10. Well I guess if it's already kicking WRX rump roast at the track then just keep it the way it is, with AWD you'd just have more stuff to brake anyway. I will get another BRAT someday but right now I don't have any time for another prodject car, I already have 3 parts cars and my Legacy sitting in the body shop at work so my boss probly dosn't want anymore yard orninmants.
  11. I just put in new struts, but the ones that were in there are really shot. It's just a matter of the extra weight over the front axle, I had a bumper with alot of heavy steel in it but I'm making a new lighter one using more aluminum. Also I think the EJ22T weighs a bit more than the EA82. The stock set up is OK for now but I might go back to my duel front spring set up, especialy when I put the winch on it, I'll try to find a way to put an extra set of shocks on the front to control the rebound becouse the stock struts just arn't valved for that kinda spring rate.
  12. 145ftlbs to be exact. Be sure to tourq it back on to speck. The bearing will thank you.
  13. I could take the top of the carb off my 77 Brat and clean out the crap in it with a leatherman at a mud bog in 5mins. I had to do it about every 1/2hour.
  14. Just wondering what kinda mods yall are using on lifted EA82's I had a stock spring with rear spring inside setup upfront for a wile. It worked well to keep the suspension fron slamming the bump stops but was a little to stiff for good flexing. I just put a set of the 85 to 86 adjustable struts in the front and thought using a modifyed set of springs from a Tacoma would work well. WRONG, way to stiff. If I jacked the front wheel off the ground till it lifted the rear, it would only flex about an inch. So I swaped back in the stock springs, they work good as long as I have the jacking bolts about 3/4s up. I plan on building a winch bumper to house an S9000 Superwinch and I know this will put to much weight over the front for the stock springs to keep working well so I was just wondering what other setups might be working well for a situation like this?
  15. Kinda bring back memories, I destroyed a perfectlly, um, rotted out BRAT becouse of a fuel filter problem. I felt like such a dumb rump roast, I drove around for a month without being able to go over 50mph becouse I hade a pluged F.F. in my BRAT. I had just changed them about a month earlier so I never suspected them as being bad, but a friggen rock had gotten through and was plugging the exit port on the F.F. But I also got sick of trying to make my 81 Wagon not run like a POS, so thats why I swaped in an EA82T. Seams like probly a carb issue, I would go for the Weber route if I were you, uless you feel up to an engine swap?
  16. I just did the front bearings on my Loyal the other day. Alot easier than the rears (no retainer) same as the BRAT. Still requires a press, I guess, or just a steady hand and the right BFH. The 2WD XT rears are just like any old RWD amarican car, just unbolt and take out. Why don't you convert that XT6 to AWD? Also when are you gona give me that BRAT? It's the replica of my first cruck.
  17. Looking at the wiring diagram it seems simple enough, If it was running off carb cleaner then we could assume everthing else was hooked up right. There are three wires to the trigger side of the coil: the wire from the dist to fire the coil, the wire to the tach, and the wire to the ECM that tells the injectors to fire. Did you test to see if you had a pulse going to the ECM wire for the injectors? My diagram shows no resistors anywhere on the injector circut. The power side of the injectors is wired in with the fuel and Ign. relays to constant battery power. If everything inticates that the injectors should be firing then it might be time to start checking for faulty items (ie. injectors or computer). Well let me know when your ready to try it again.
  18. So you you still have one front axle in? Ha, Ha, It seems like RWD Subarus really suck in the snow. When I had my RWD XT a wile back, I had snow tires on the rear and still drove all the way home sideways.
  19. Well the dist signal fires the injectors, so you might be missing that. Did you have any tach action? Could you make it run if you sprayed carb cleaner in the throttle body? I once tried to hook up an MSD SCI to it but the MSD stole the signal from the injectors and I could only make it run on carb cleaner. MSD does make an amplifyier to increace the signal to run both, and MSD's will work on an SPI motor. Anyway, getting off topic. PS. Your PM box if full.
  20. Why not convert to at least a Turbo EA82? Much better power improvment for all your work. I swaped an EA82T into my old 81 GL Safari wagon and it was pretty damn fast, untill it cracked the heads. To much boost I suppose. I still have the wiring harness and computer ready for install, but it's out of a 86 GL-10 sedan so it has the door type MAF. Still went good thoe. Aside from that why not just go for the EJ22T swap or other EJ motor swap. The motor is narrower and has even more power and less places to leak oil:rolleyes: I did an EJ22T swap into my Loyal and it was no more involved than doing the EA swap as far as the wiring goes. Oh yeah, I never had the speed sensor hooked up in my 81' and the computer never seemed to care, never threw on a CEL anyway. Also I did have to massage the left frame rail with a BFH for extra clearance. I also swapped in a Loyal brake booster and master to make more room for the dist. I did have to beat out around strut tower to clear the booster.
  21. For the price VS. labor you'd be better off just getting a rebuild or used caliper. The job will go much faster and even if your wallet doesn't thankyou your hands will. (did that come out right?) How about the good old Hill Holder lock up. I had this happen on my 85 BRAT in a flat parking lot. It was only RWD drive so I burned the tires with the car going sideways all the way to the road, luckly it releasd when I pushed the clutch back in.
  22. Yes, if you take out the front shafts and throw it in 4wd or 4wd lo you get a RWD Subaru. I did this to my BRAT after snaping 3 axles and bending the the front diff axle stub:( The trick is you need to cut off the outter axle shaft stub and put it back in the hub or obviously your rotor will fall off. I have a RWD RX right now, it will burn tire well, and do awsome doughnuts.
