  1. I have bee away from the computer all day so this is late in coming. I checked and there are no wires anywhere near the accelerator pedal and there is no kick down switch either. Gary, so I can swap an ECU from a manual and that might fix the problem? Which is the identifier pin and how do I locate it? Thanks guys Mike
  2. I recently did a 5 spd D/r swap on my daughter's car. Now when you are at speed and you push the gas to the floor the fuse for "engine meter" bows and the car dies. It only happens if you push the gas to the floor as in a situation where you need to accelerate quickly. It is almost as if the car is looking to put the car into passing gear and that is blowing the fuse, but I don't know how to fix it. Does anyone have a suggestion? I am looking at the possibility of rewiring the car for an ECU for a 5 spd, but that is a real pain and if I can avoid it. Thanks Mike
  3. Take up the carpet in behind the back seat. You will find two access panels so you can look at the sending units and the hose connections. You don't need to drop the tank to get a look at that stuff. If you are confused give me a call 804-393-0516 Mike
  4. I realize that you aren't that close to me, but I have a tank and I may even be able to help you install it. I have access to a lift on weekends. It isn't a difficult job, but now real easy either.
  5. When you look in the little trunk, look at the sides and you will see two rubber grommetts and underneath them are the bolts you need o work on. If you can'tfind them let me know and I will take a picture of mine.
  6. The easiest way to remove a windshield without breaking it is to use 90lb fishing wire. It will cut through the urethane and not break as easily as other wires and it doesn't ruin the windshield. I have removed several using this method. Make sure you clean the windshield real well and you can buy the primer and urethane and replace it yourself. DO NOT use butyl tape. Use the urethane that comes prepped for a caulking gun and it won't ruin a cheap gun. My gun sost me 8 bucks and I am still using it. It will take you two tubes fo urethane. Don't be stingy as the urethane also holds in the trim. Don't be afraid to do this job.
  7. Open the little smugglers trunk and you will see two access holes on each side. Thise are for the rear bumper bolts. Loosen the four bolts, realign the bumper and tighten them back up and you will be done. I had a similar situation and didn't realize that was the problem until I was ready to replace the bumper. Saved me some money.
  8. If you want a good head to replace your bad one, I have a couple on my work bench. They are complete with lifters and cams. Let me know if you want to explore that option.
  9. Gary: Thanks so much. I believe I know where it is now. I will work on it tomorrow. Mike
  10. I am having trouble with a 90 loyale fuel pump and I want to check the relay, but I don't know where it is located. Any help?
  11. If you want to, come on up to Richmond this weekend and we can do it together. I have all the tools necessary and a nice enclosed area to work in. I am pretty sure that I have a good flex plate laying around too, so you can save on that bit. Mike
  12. I have a 99 forester that is beginning to sag in the rear end and I was looking to replace the springs. Has anyone used any other springs on these struts? I am looking for a firmer ride with possibly a little more height and I didn't know what options I might have. I'm not sure if thee are any other vehicles that I might scavange some springs from at the JY that might work. Thanks
  13. Pull the extension housing, grind the notches off the hub that the clutches go on and I will bet you will be golden. I have done several of these and the fix was immediate. Got the fix right here on the board.
  14. How far away from Richmond va are you? I can do the job for you and you and the little lady can have a day trip. The job doesn't take all that long. I can do it far cheaper than a dealer. PM me if you are interested. Mike
  15. I know that the trans has only 117 k on it, but that is all I know. The car it is in hit a deer and then the husband decided he was going to fix it himself. In the process he left his wife and she didn't know what to do wht the car so it sat in her driveway until I bought it. Even if it did have any binding issues, I can fix that in short order, but I don't think we are going to have any issues. I can do the work in about three or so hours. Weekends are the best for me, but I am also off on Thursdays. If you want you can email me and we can go off the listing. mdjdc1@gmail.com thanks Mike
  16. I have checked ant there is no speed issue with the transmission interchange. Rest easy on this decision. Mike
  17. I have a 98 parts car that may have a good pipe on it. I can check it tomorrow and let you know. If I do hve one I can let you have it cheap and you can do the fix yourself.
  18. it is just a matter of taking the speed sensors off of your tranny and putting them on the new tranny. Not a big deal as they are external. Call me if you have any questions 804-393-0516 mike
  19. Thanks John, I agree. As long as the tranny comes out of a 2.5 car you are golden up to about 2000 model year. Let me know if you want to do this and we can figure out a time. mike
  20. What am I thinking. I have a 2.5 trans that only has 117k on it in a 98 outback parts car that I have right now. The car hit a deer and the lady didn't want to fix it so she sold the car to me. I can sell you the trans for 400 installed if you'd like. I can't believe that I forgot about the tranny. Let me know what you think Mike
  21. I'm not sure, but here is a car here in a local JY with a trans in it, but it is from a 2.2 so you would need the rear end to go with it. The JY usually charges around 150 for a tranny and another 45 for the rear end. It might be worth a trip down to get the trans and if your car is driveable we could do the swap while you are here. Weems a lot less expensive than what you are looking at right now. Mike
  22. My best friend is a full time mechanic and has been using everdrive for about a year now. They have been very good to him and replaced bad parts without question. Knowing this, I wouldn't hesitate using them for a part for my car. Where are you located, that will help one of us to help you.
  23. You can slip the belt up to three teeth without doing any damage. If you went further than that, you must be very careful. First, put the crank bolt in and see if you can get the crank to the timiing mark. Once you have it ther just take off the belt and unspring the cams and you will be safe. If you feel any resistance wait a moment to see if it is just compression in the cylinder. If I were you I would procede very carefully. you could also carefully take off the belt and then turn the cam in the opposite direction that you were going before until it is in the unsprung position. now the bvalves are closed and in no danger. Once you have all of the cams unsprung you can turn the motor and get the marks lined up. Good Luck
  24. By the way, they are easy to replace. You can do it yourself.
