  1. I have a 98 forester parts car that I can pull one for you. Let me kow if I can help you out. Mike
  2. Does your car have a security system on it? If it does, then you need to deactivate it after attaching a new battery. I think you lucked out when you reconnected the battery the second time and had the key in the run position. That is a work around for those of us that do not have a remote. Glad you got it started.
  3. I could have understood a twist and e tape job. This was and actual solder job at differing points along the wires and then group taping them hoping the exposed wires wouldn't touch each other. It failed. Now each wire is individually insulated against the other and this won't happen again.
  4. But, I'm sure you don't tape up exposed wires right next to one another. What a bone headed thing to do. I'm glad we found it now and not when we are a few miles into the woods during hunting season.
  5. Got it fixed!!!! Some idiot tried to do something to the ignition wiring at some point and they wrapped the wires with electrical tape TOGETHER. I found the bulge in the harness and when I touched it we heard the fuel pump cycle. I unwrapped the bundle and found the bare wires all next to one alnother. Evidently when the car bucked, they touched and the engine meter fuse blew. i wrapped each wire independantly and replaced the fuse and VOILA the car is running again. I am continually amazed at what some guys will try to do to a car. Sme guys ahould have all of their wrenches taken away. Thanks for the pointers guys. Mike
  6. Rotor is tight and I am not sure if the fuel pump is pumping at this time. I was trying to diagnose on the side of the road. My best friend is trouble shooting it for me and i will let you know what we find.
  7. Yesterday, my daughter was driving her 92 loyale and she down shifted . The car bucked and then quit. We had to coast to the side of the road and then have it towed because it won't start now. I have no timing covers, so I checked for a jumped belt and they wer right on the money. It seems that there is no spark now. Any ideas or advice for trouble shooting this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike
  8. I have a passenger fog light and if it isn't too expensive to ship, I have a front bumper for a 98 outback wagon also. Do you need the entire bumper or just the cover? PM me and make me an offer on the parts. Mike
  9. It may very well be that you have a bad u joint in the rear drive shaft. Take the shaft sown and see if either of the joints is stiff. If so, it will need replacement.
  10. Correst that it is a 92 not an 02 that is going into the 98 forester.
  11. Hey guys what issues are we looking at in putting a 02 2.2 into a 98 forester. It presently has the 2.5 DOHC I have been told that the swap is easy if you use a newer intake and harness. Is that the only thing we will need to change? Thanks Mike
  12. The import experts parts are first rate. I have used them many times and they are the same parts you are going to get from subaru without the high prices. They stand behind their parts too. They are easy to get on the phone and very knowledgeable. I'd use their kits anytime.
  13. Send me a picture of the pulley mdjdc1@gmail.com . I am pretty sure I have one in my parts storage that I can get to you and you can fix your AC before it gets too hot. Mike
  14. I don't think there are any issues with using the blocks interchangably. Look at the tow and if they look the same you are golden. Make sure both have the EGR setup if yours already has that. The blocks are pretty versatile. I just built a 2.5 SOHC using a block off of a DOHC motor. It has been done before and sorks just fine. I think you will be able to do the swap and go. I too had one with a broken head bolt and even NAPA wouldn't try to get the bolt out of the block. Good luck.
  15. a real hard worker. She wants to go to the Naval Academy and become a jet pilot. Real ambition.
  16. Oh yeah, she did her parts just fine. It was my screw up. I knew it was going to be something simple. She is really good at the mechanical stuff. While I was buttoning up the trans underneath, she was installing the shifter and never even asked me what to do other than the direction of the plate that holds down the boot. Next thing I knew she was getting down and the shifter was done. She's really into sweat equity and I appreciate her work ethic. Thanks Guys.
  17. Finally got to it yesterday and I started hunting down loose connections. Evidently when I was moving the wiring harness to install the pedals i partially unplugged one of the harness plugs. Since it was only partially unplugged it appeared to be plugged in. When i started pulling on other plugs, it fell apart and I knew I had found the problem. Tonight my daughter gets to drive her car home for the first time with the 5 spd D/R tranny. She is really excited. I still have to find a console for it, but she really doesn't care, she just wants to drive it. Thanks for the help guys. I really needed the encouragement at the time. Mike
  18. John is correct I have some of those and they are in good shape. Make me an offer and I can pull one for you. Mike
  19. If you want a good set of heads I have some off a 97 that I can send to you. Do the leak down test first and see which valves are bent and then get back with me.
  20. That is what I was thinking, so I will check that today. Just wanted some other ideas before I get back into it. I am trying to teach her the ins and outs of the car and I let her put some stuff back together. She might not have plugged the ECU back in properly. Good kid and really wants a car that can go in the mud. Thanks guys.
  21. Here's the deal. I did a D/R swap in my daughter's loyale today. It originally had an auto trans. now the car cranks but it won't start. i did have to remove the ECU to change out the pedal box, but I'm pretty sure it went back in correctly. She did that part, so I have to double check it. Right now it sounds like I'm not getting any fuel. Anyone have any ideas as to what i need to do now? All suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Mike
  22. It does have the drive train in common except for the drive shaft. Body parts and interior are going to be different. The front hubs and brakes are the same as are the back, but that is where it ends.
  23. The only real difference between the manual and the automatic is going to be the tranny harness and the length of the driveshaft. Other than that, you will still be good to go.
  24. Your driveline will fit 96 thru 99. In 2000 they changed the engine and ecu and the body changed too.
