Timing belt lifespan
danbennett2u replied to murphsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCrap so a cross country trip would be a very bad idea on that belt

Timing belt lifespan
danbennett2u replied to murphsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCan get it done independently for about half that probably. very important on a post 97 model, not as much on the non interference pre 97 models.

Timing belt lifespan
danbennett2u replied to murphsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell I just dont have the time to replace it right now Bearings sound fine, motor is actually pretty whisper quiet. they are hairline cracks, but I agree never a good sign. Just wondering how bad it actually IS. maybe I will go take a quick cellphone pic.

Timing belt lifespan
danbennett2u replied to murphsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI am kind of wondering how durable the belts are too. I have no idea the mileage of my belt on my newly purchased impreza with 165k miles. Visually its a little shiny with some tiny cracks in it, but I have heard they almost never break unless a bearing in a pulley goes. How true is this?

High Mileage Head replacement
danbennett2u replied to glkiller2's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhy would the heads need to be put on a high mileage block without rebuilding the whole thing? Arent the heads usually more robust? Nevermind just read your previous thread.

1996 Legacy L 5spd Overheating
danbennett2u replied to nwtech's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMost likely either faulty thermostats or air in the system. Is your heater blowing cold air after the car is warmed up? If so then it is probably air in the system. Its tricky to get it all out when you fill it up, especially after replacing radiator and thermostats etc. the EJ22 used in the L trim level is not prone to head gasket issues so I wouldnt immediately suspect that. I suppose it could be a failing water pump too? I am sure some of the mechanics on here will chime in about what they think is most likely given the symptoms.

OBDII question
Yeah was looking at the Torque option too especially as I have an older retired android phone sitting around doing nothing.

OBDII question
Hmm was wondering why they used an OBDII plug on the truck in front of me but not my car when I got it tested.

OBDII question
Thats the thing though its not for reading codes, I have a cheap harbor freight one that works for that, the thing I am looking at reads speed, engine rpm, sensor readings etc and calculates real time mpg.

OBDII question
no codes, just wondering if I can use the scangauge e.

OBDII question
This website lists 1995 legacy as being fully compliant A/T only. no mention of the other 95 models... http://www.obdii.com/connector.html Anyone know about 95 auto impreza being fully compliant?

OBDII question
Most things that require OBDII seem to say 1996 or newer vehicles.. Since subaru implemented this in 1995, is there any difference in the data that is output through the port, or is this an actual standard so the datasets from 1995 are the same as 1996? Specifically asking because of this type of thing and the progressive snapshot discount device http://www.amazon.com/ScanGaugeE-Multifunction-Computer-Customizable-Real-Time/dp/B004SK5I46

power differences in 95 imprezas
Well the tuneup is going to have to wait. Her hours got cut at work so no money for tuneup parts now, just oil changes. Back to the "only fix things when they break" mode. Will let you guys know if I ever figure out what the difference is between them.

Need 94 EJ22T help!
danbennett2u replied to oleman77's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXtiming belt break wont bend the valves. might be as simple as the person replacing the belt might not have used the right timing marks or are one tooth off?

2001 Forester need help-buying question
danbennett2u replied to thelynns's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthe oil leak at the heads would be evidence of failure. If they fixed it all I agree 5-6k would be a good deal in colorado.

power differences in 95 imprezas
nah I think weight wise we carry about the same. It is strange it almost feels like she has a smaller engine since it gets better mileage but less power. They are both definitely ej22s though. Will probably just start with a tuneup though. We have owned it for 40k miles and all I have done is oil changes, brakes and new spark plugs.

yes and steel wheels on both

90 legacy l
if you had maf and IAC issues why were the crank position sensor the tps and the ignition module replaced? a little confused as to what was done.

power differences in 95 imprezas
Could it be from dirty EGR valve too?

Question regarding Impreza Outback
danbennett2u replied to Burma95's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYeah its just a different trim package. The mechanicals are the same. I am pretty sure the Impreza Outback does not even actually have a lift over the regular Impreza unlike the Legacy vs Legacy Outback. Be aware that moving from a 95 to a 98 you will be moving to an interference engine so you will want to make sure your timing belt is taken care of.

Plugs about 10k miles ago, wires who knows, I havent changed them since I bought it. No to all the rest.

power differences in 95 imprezas
My wife and I both have 95 impreza outbacks with auto and 2.2l Mileage is similar. Here is the weird part: Mine, slightly worse gas mileage, but feels much faster then hers. I do not notice any stuttering, hers just seems flatter across the rev range. Is this something a tuneup can fix? maybe a fuel filter issue, or is there any other reason for this?
