Not sure what you mean here. You already know they need attention, if you are asking if these are major problems and what order - I would say they are probably not severe, but prob would do the coolant first. Not sure if HGs are an issue on the H6. Coolant doesnt usually get "dirty" so that would worry me a little... do you mean it is discolored, etc? It might very well be original. Not sure if you need conditioner in it for the H6. If you are thinking these issues may be indicators of a bigger problem, get a hydrocarbon test done on the coolant. valve cover leak is nothing fix it if the oil bothers you or wait until it gets worse.

You will never get 2500 for a "fair" condition 96 legacy with 260k miles on it. KBB estimates are for dealers for the most part and are extremely inflated. Look for similar cars on your local craigslist to get an idea of the value, or even Edmunds TMV is closer to what they are really worth then KBB. If the header is that messed up maybe just replace it with a junkyard one?

Ok I get your point. There was a bit of overly aggressive judgment going on. I would say the majority of the responses were not that way though. I still stand by my opinion that "upgraded turbo" and non running condition "sounds" like a hack job. I think most people that can upgrade a turbo correctly should be able to fix a ground issue fairly easily. I am really curious if the prospective buyer reports back as to whether this is in serviceable condition or not.

THIS sounds like a ground issue. Possible bad battery or alternator too. Especially the part saying once when you tried to restart it the car just clicked. That makes me think it isnt getting the amps to keep the car running. Try cleaning battery terminals and make sure the ground wires from engine to body arent badly corroded. Just because the electronics worked doesn't rule out a battery issue.

I have had "what is this worth" arguments before too and it seems like different locations have MAJOR factors on the going rate of subarus. I think price is probably fair but it looked like the prospective buyer was a little concerned about how difficult it would be to keep this as a daily driver. Obviously this will be a better deal to someone with mechanical skills then someone who is going to have to rely on a dealership to make repairs.
-
Doubt it but most of the assumptions put on here seem very reasonable to me. Everyone is cautioning the poster that someone just saying "grounding issue" may or may not just be a guess and go in being a skeptic rather than an optimist. Seems like good advice to me. Also nobody is telling the OP not to go check it out either.

I think that is a little steep. It shouldnt take a dealership hours to replace each axle, and I didnt think they were that expensive of parts??? Thats a crock that they charged you $100 just to lift it to inspect them. I would see if there is anyone on here that can do it for you that is local. I would think you can get it done much cheaper with OEM or MWE axles and an independent who would be willing to spend a few hours to help. I also agree used OEM ones are ok and much cheaper if you can find them.

Yeah with only 100k miles in good condition and you thinking you can get $900 for your ATV, I would say this is a killer deal. Expect to do headgaskets at some point in the future though, but even if you dont and they blow you might still be able to get your $900 out of the car if you sold it after they popped

"Subaru seemed to have the most reliable car (of its own make) mid 90s with the 2.2 engines." Thats exactly what we are talking about in this case. Even so, reliability must mean something different to you than me. I dont consider brake wear, cv joints, wheel bearings etc. reliability issues. They wont leave you stranded. I consider a car to be reliable if you can go out, start it, drive it to work over and over and over and get plenty of notice when things start to need maintenance. I had PLENTY of american vehicles (and some asian ones) that have left me on the side of the road with no warning. My 92 Legacy I have owned from 230k to present with 341k miles has never left me stranded with the exception of a cracked radiator 1k miles ago. This dependability at high mileage isnt uncommon with Subarus, and not many other makes can claim to do that. That all said, I would probably tend to avoid most any subaru newer than a 97 model year, but they have a REPUTATION for reliability and that is what people will pay a premium for. EDIT**** Now that I think about it I did have a fuel pump failure too, but I can excuse that as well since it was at 339k miles. This has been both my most reliable and most trouble free car i have owned, along with the one having the most mileage. My miata may have had less problems but I didnt own it nearly as long and I bought that with 48k miles on it.
