  1. You pay more for AWD and subaru reliability/longevity. Cant compare subaru selling prices to other makes easily. Maybe toyotas with alltrac would be the closest comparison. Also considering the car still has original hubcaps it may have been better taken care of than what people are hinting at, especially if the only issue when driving it was a warped brake rotor.
  2. no mention of the mileage but yes that is about what I have seen cosmetically for a $1600 asking price Legacy. I still say if the underbody on the one ttt posted is ok then the seller is asking for a fair price. I am in Colorado and have visible body rust, it just looks worse on a white car I think lol.
  3. How the heck do you guys get these deals? $2500 in Denver will buy you a ok-ish condition mid 90's model with 150k+ miles, and subies are pretty common in Denver. Is the demand that low that people will sell them for that cheap in some areas?
  4. Scrapper will probably give you 300 for it. If it is in pretty beat condition I wouldnt expect much more than that. If it was fairly roadworthy you might get more out of it by throwing it on craigslist being that it is a 99. really depends on its condition relative to what is available in your area. What I would do is look at what running ones are going for near you, in similar condition and drop about $1500 off of the price to cover repair costs and or labor for whomever might be interested
  5. I know it is a different generation but on my 92 there is a smallish metal body color panel immediately behind the passenger rear seatback under the carpet. Would be very surprised if they removed that in the gen2 legacy.
  6. I would lean towards the coolant temp sensor giving inaccurate readings to the ECU. I dont think this will trigger a CEL in most cases.
  7. probably alignment issue as stated. Possibly a bad wheel bearing loose enough to let alignment fluctuate as well.
  8. If thats a $1000 dollar car I want to know where you guys get your deals! AWD and 160k put that thing close to 1800. Especially in an area that does not have rust free 20 year old cars. Finding a decent subie in Denver for around 2000 is not always easy and they are abundant, I wouldnt want to try to find one in MO. $1000 cars are typically heavily abused and neglected. Hell people try to sell ones with bad transmissions that cant even drive for around that sometimes.
  9. 20 year old design or not that looks like someone picked it up and dropped it from height, not just rolled it! That is scary. Give the guy some time to mourn his loss before you start asking him to pick it apart for parts lol
  10. No pictures to post but there seems to be a fine line between awesome and not so awesome!
  11. I think so and higher compression.... so you get higher displacement, and higher compression. I think its about a 30hp jump but not positive. There are threads out there. Of course this requires a ej25 block which you dont have, and removal of the engine... but from what I have heard the people that end up doing it love it.
  12. The post is over 5 years old hehe. With all of the other coolant related posts how the heck did you find this one?
  13. " but it is still blowing water out of the filler neck when I rev the enging at operating temp." Isnt that what is supposed to happen? the cooling system is supposed to be pressurized when it is at operating temp i thought. Close the system up with it full, and open the overflow tank with it running at operating temp and look for air.
  14. Depending on how quickly this slippage has been getting worse I would look into borrowing or renting a car depending on how long you will be away. The expense of you breaking down hundreds of miles away from home will be pretty large and the inconvenience would be great I would think.
  15. I left mine off on my last change, that was 2 years ago. Might protect the belt a little to leave them on but I would rather be able to see the condition of it easier. Plus all the bolts are what I consider unnecessary hassle.
  16. Hmm I may check that if I am ever in that area again, I have had that console out a lot so that may be a good place to look, maybe I didnt tighten something
  17. lol ok maybe they are related in that way, but I dont smoke so, even if they are part of the ACC circuit or share a ground, why would it only happen in super cold weather? I dont understand how a temperature extreme could affect the situation?
  18. When it is VERY cold in the morning, sometimes the radio will not power up. Sometimes if I hit the wipers it will turn on. Sometimes I have to unplug my phone charger from the cig lighter outlet and it will turn on. Sometimes the wipers will not turn on when this is occuring. This only happens when it is below about 20 F, Why would cold weather affect the electrical system like this, and how are these items connected together? I probably dont care about fixing it, but it doesn't make sense to me.
  19. Melting of the trailer harness indicates a short. There is really no other reason it would melt unless it could somehow contact the exhaust and I doubt that far back it would be hot enough to melt it. The nicks on the wires for the taillights are probably due to the install of the wiring harness. Personally I would look into getting it removed and a new one installed. I cant really see how the fog lights would run on the same relay as the tail lights, they should come on independently from each other right?
  20. Yeah going to have a hard time finding a FWD trans for a gen2. I THINK subaru went all AWD in 96 across all models. I think you are on the right track about looking for a gen1 legacy transmission but I cant confirm definitively whether they are exactly the same from gen1 to 95. Wouldnt make much sense to have a different transmission and only keeping it around for one year though. My educated guess is a late gen1 would be exactly the same as a 95 FWD.
  21. Not that we dont have enough responses already, but thought I should make another point... If you do decide you want something younger for your kids, Post it up for sale here and maybe craigslist rather then parting it or donating in a non running condition. With your maintenance history, low miles etc, it is probably worth a bit more than you expect it to be, especially to the subaru nuts on here.
  22. If I lived in WA and needed anyone to work on my car I would SERIOUSLY hit up GD for the work, he definitely knows what he is doing on subies.
