The New Weber Carburetor
bigjim5551212 replied to bigjim5551212's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes, I know everything now. The original Webers are available and we have them in stock. The 34 DGEC is a Solex and I am not interested in those and neither should fellow Subaru enthusiasts. Call or email me if you need more info. -
There is a problem that you guys should know about regarding HESITATION on acceleration or when the secondary opens. Sometimes the discharge tube in the auxilliary venturi loosens in the aluminum housing. Several things may happen. 1)the tube slides into the body of the carb 2)the tube spins around and the outlet does not face the throttle plate - no or little fuel, so then you have a hesitation the fix Either buy a new piece, that we have, or you can peen the edge of the tube and aluminum so it cant spin. Make sure the tube is all the way in. If you need any parts, jets, our new throttle shaft bearing kit or carbs, call me at 604 879 6288 9-5 m-f pacific, Jim

EA82 (carb) - hesitates on accell.....why?
bigjim5551212 replied to pmichaud's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sounds like the pump jet in the carb is not working. Look down the barrel when the engine is off. open the throttle and you should see gas squirting in the barrel. If not, then then pump circuit is plugged. -
Rejetted Holley 180 (Webber 32/36)
bigjim5551212 replied to BobBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I really think that there is a problem with the ignition. the only problem the carb can have is if it runs out of fuel. Then it would conk out. So probably the problem is bad plug wires. The plug wires on a Sube are so long, there is more of a chance for faulty wires. Test them out. Nothing over 10,000 ohms. -
Buy without an engine?
bigjim5551212 replied to kdixey's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The other thing that I would say, is that you probably need to get a "donor car" as well. Because, if you are new to Subaru, you might not see what else besides the motor is non existent. It's great to have a donor car with all the special bolts and nuts and wiring. So find a rust bucket or a car rolled into a ball as well. -

Yes, the smoke show was great. I like small engine smoke shows. -
The New Weber Carburetor will be available in about 60 days. It will be called the 34 DGEC. It will feature more tunability, namely changeable venturis. It will be 34 mm bore on both barrells. That is all I know. I would think it has the same bolt pattern as before. I hope it has jets that are easier to change.

Symptoms of a clogged catalytic converter.....
bigjim5551212 replied to travis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
a broken cat will usually flow exhaust. It wont pass emissions mostly. and it rattles. with a plugged cat you will find that you will not feel any exhaust pulses at the tail pipe. there will be just hot air coming out slow -

Well, it is time to post again about Weber carbs. The only new ones you will find are on Ebay. Sometimes our business has them but are hard to find. We are trying to find used ones. We are rebuilding them "in house". Ours are cleaned in heavy duty carb cleaner and then washed out with brake cleaner and blown dry. We put new pump diaphrams and power valve diaphrams in as well as all new gaskets. These carburetors are complete and ready to go. The problem buying carburetors from Ebay are that sometimes they are missing parts or something worse. Like the one we got a couple days ago. There was a hole drilled in the primary throttle blade. Nice. I had a big search today and I actually had a new throttle blade. You probably wont find parts like this. If you have a broken Weber, let me know. We will give you money for it. We need parts. If you have a used Weber sitting around, put it on your car or advertise it on this board or sell it on Ebay. There is good money if you have something nice. The good news is that Weber will be making new carburetors again soon, in the USA. Made at the plant that makes Edelbrock carbs in North Carolina.

will this weber work??
bigjim5551212 replied to The Scooby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ok, gents, here it is regarding 32/36 DFAV series carbs. The carb is basically the same as a DGV series except that the barrels are reversed. The other things are, the venturis are the same as DGV 26 - 27 , but the air horn is smaller than a DGV so you would flow less air. The float bowl is a bit smaller as well. This carb is basically the same as a Holley 5200, but the Holley has drawbacks. Read my post on used Webers. -

This suggested carb, the 36 DCNVH is not really condusive to the Subaru. It has a different pattern on the base than a DGV series. For parts, there is only one place you can buy parts as well. There is the 38 DGAS that has the same pattern as the DGV series that you can find used or buy new or from Ebay. If you wanted another carb to play with, you could look for DCNF carbs from wrecked Fiats, Ferraris, and Aston Martins -
My buddy is rebuilding a wrecked WRX 2004. He put in a 2002 WRX engine and hooked up all the wires. The motor turns over but no hint of starting. Any ideas on what we should do or check. I looked at the STI manual on line, but it didnt really help that much. any help would be most appreciated. BTW we are using the 2004 computer

This is Big Jim, the Weber Guru. The first post from Tim, tells a lot of info. We have all the jets available to tune the carb. But I think a 140 primary and a 135 or 140 secondary main and about 165 -170 airs and you have to play with the idle to get the best for either passing emmissions or to run good, 55-60-65 is most popular
