  1. the MAF is also easily removed from its housing, but BE CAREFUL with it. It consists of two little hot wires that are very delicate.. not incredibly easy to destroy, but fragile nevertheless. Just unplug the sensor, and undo the two phillips head screws holding it in. Get a can of QD electrical cleaner, and clean the heck outta the thing. Also, go to the USRM and read up on how to put your ECU into "D-check" mode and run the onboard diagnostic. That always help give you some more info. While I am at it, in what way did you confirm that the fuel filter was "good?" They only cost like, $10 and its never a bad idea to replace it.
  2. to ME, that says two things... A. You found your tool selection to be somewhat lacking and B. You were inventive enough to think to grab the cheese grater. I say thats nothing to live down, but something to be proud of. Funny, yes... but smart funny.
  3. Well, being unsure of the implications of your statement.. ..AND maybe a little over-sensitive, personally, on this particular issue.... ..I want to say, plain and simple, that cocaine is about the most evil *************** i can imagine, and I have never, and shall never, go near the stuff. If I am coming out of left field with my "clarification," and no such concept was intended, no big deal.. BUT me no likey the powder. Bad things.
  4. And here I was, thinking you were talking about the latest in Swedish Cinema... I hadn't heard that one either, though. Next time I feel the urge to spin the tail of the GL-10 around, I know how.
  5. Kind of like unplugging that MIG/TIG welder you are repairing BEFORE you stick your fingers inside..
  6. Connie, if the bearings got eaten up, it REALLY is not that juge a deal to replace them. The races are pressed in, but not incredibly tightly. What was the verdict with the XT-6? did you pop the alternator with the Funky Plug, so the new plug didn't make it go vroom? you just kinda said "Hey He charges!!" I just think is SOO funny that you drive a GL 2wd like me, that you named bucky.. which is my uncle's name.. and then you bought an XT-6, which my dad had owned... strange twists.
  7. awesome, good quote mcfly. Its strange, the rest of the country seems to be taken over in a wave of meth usage, but south florida just does not have it. I mean, there are meth addicts around, but nowhere NEAR the amount you folks seem to deal with in the rest of the states.. obviously it will vary from town to town, but it just isn't an incredibly popular way to utterly destroy your life down here. They still use crack for that. yah, Good ol' crack! we can joke about you, lightheartedly. when we talk about meth its still too garish to think about. Ahh, the beauty of desensitization... I'm kinda rambling, sorry.
  8. First off, you gotta know that things a GL and not a DL.. the DL's didn't come with SWEET optional luxury lightweight racing JDM wooden tailgate Secondly... only a subie guy would call that a pretty sweet interior!! the dash looks like it was probably protected from the sun's rays by about thirty pounds of leaves Nothing like a good parts car find. That brat looks like the one that my buddy and I tried to play with when I was in high school.. it got hauled off one day when his dad got in trouble with code enforcement for having like, 20 dead cars in his yard. six, ten was OK.. 20 was too much. Funny thing, with the VINs. I wonder if the cars were like "Bernie.. is that YOU!?!?"" when they saw each other?
  9. Well, thats what I was ORIGINALLY gonna comment on, so I will start with that... GD, you learned that in your calc I class in college I take it??? So, that being the case, pretty much anyone who has had college-level calc I should have access to that info.. meaning that, your HS teacher probably, at one time, heard all about that... Unfortunately, it was Charlie Brown's Parents.... BUT we cannot expect every college student planning on being a high school teacher to absorb all these details and retain each like a sponge. Is it sad that your math teacher didn't know? Yes.. but he is only human. Regarding the whole rest of the thread.. GD has actually TOTALLY moderated his own tongue more than he usually does, MOSTLY because you, jonas (if you are reading) have responded well. All he wants is the specific numbers of your car's setup. Are you planning on building it? Is your car a secret prototype that you plan on making a million dollars off of? These forums are here so we can help each other. If you have really found a *GREAT* niche in your build on your engine and carb setup, everyone else would like to know what the skinny is!! thats all!! and you aren't dishing out the goods!! NOBODY is getting angry at you, accusing you of falsehood, or insulting you in ANY way, man.. but you keep on telling us little snippets, and avoiding giving us the entire formula to try and replicate your results. What have you got to lose in telling us exactly what your jet sizes are, exactly what your timing is set at, and heck, why not even toss a compression test in??? EVERYONE else wants to get the best possible MPG, that is no secret. Nobody thinks any less of you for making a claim like this, but to make this claim, be asked for specifics by someone interested in trying your design, and then clam up is kinda selfish, if you ask me. And you are talking to (reading the words of) the man who got up and barked at GD for being a little to sharp in the treatment of other forum members... while he and I are on good terms with each other as forum members, we all know he can get his shorts in a twist, and I have called him on it in the past. He is NOT out of line here, he just wants the specs. So do alot of us. Maybe you should try some drugs. Although I have always considered it more of a "nutritional/holistic herbal supplement" than a drug...
  10. Well, I mean, I wanted to emphasize it, because it seemed appropriate at the time. I wanted to convey the fact that I also do that, but have learned NOT to do so in any case with my soob. If you seem OK after having done so, then you probably are.. the warning lights are often an indicator of bad diodes, and that can be verified by checking for AC output.. check this at the battery terminals with the car running. If I over did it a little bit, my apologies.. but I think I made it clear, at least
  11. sorry to have gotten it off onto that tangent, dude.. i just wanted to bust your chops a little, not TOTALLY derail youre thread. My advice would be, PM bratsrus and try to see what he thinks in greater detail. He seems to be the one against operating without it, and baccarudda is backing him up... the rest of us seem more or less ignorant on this particular issue. From there, hey, its your gearbox. If you want a trans thats missing its thinga, then go for it. I would see what Jerry thinks first though.
  12. Its all cosmetic.. I don't necessarily feel that the person BEHIND me is in the best of positions.. but the sub-frame and the undercarriage look great. Its all around that rear windshield, and beginning around the front windshield. My car was Ziebart'ed at some point, BTW.. Even the trunk looks great, outside of the side areas shown, there.. Meaning, the tool recession is solid. I drop my hydraulic jack in there all the time without blinking.. (well, not quite "drop" but I am not treating it like a carton of eggs by any means.) The holes had already begun the first time I ever saw the car.. something like six or seven years ago.... and I dont think theyve gotten that much LARGER, but it was my older brother's car, and he drove his wife-to-be's car whenever possible. I didnt mean to threadjack, here, honest!
  13. DO NOT DISCONNECT NEGATIVE CABLE WITH CAR RUNNING My understanding is, this can fry your ECU on the ea-82s..... I know its a poor man's alt test, I have used it myself and I will again, I am sure.. but NOT on the soob. From what I gather, its *about* the only way to fry the ECU on these cars. Someone with a little more clout care to back me up on this? I've gone and opened my mouth REAL wide, and I sure dont wanna go stickin my foot into it
  14. yah, on. It might help keep you folks warm. Sorry, but I had to do it. The rust on my car is SO bad, that when thatswhatshesaid started fighting dirty, I had to fight dirty.
  15. read the USRM entry by milesfox. its THE BOMB. I managed to do it without.. the timing belts were what made my soob free from me brudder.... its an easy process, BUT its nice to read through the process and imagine it all once or twice before you actually tear into it. There are one or two potential hangups, but milesfox spelled them all out in his writeup. +1 on rotating the crankshaft several times to ensure that the timing marks all still line up afterwards.
  16. I was wondering something.. Is "thinga" a technical term for an internal transmission oil wiper?
  17. Oh, it's all gravy I only get to see one of those about once a year, and its getting less frequent as time passes. that photograph just took me back to when I was ten years old, thats all... One day, in the distant future, I would love to get ahold of an XT and swap an ej22 awd driveline into it.... give it a mild turbocharge, drive it for a little bit... then give it to the old man as a retirement present. "Here, I called the bank and pulled some strings. Have Fun." One of my chief memories of the car was the extremely high rear end... the whole "wedge" shape, i guess is what I mean... Typically, that is a styling element I HATE on cars.. I mean, MY baby is the 280Z..... and thats a hatchback styled after the E-jag.. as sir mix-a-lot would say, baby got NO back. the XT's got back, and I normally HATE that in a car... but on the rocket wedge from outer space.. it just looks RIGHT!!!!
  18. GD: thank you. I have never even looked at a CV axle disassembled before, or blown out, and I hadn't the foggiest exactly what they were.. I couldn't imagine something to do what a U-joint does, that isnt a U-joint... anyone else who doesn't know exactly what a constant velocity axle is, look: Wiki says its copyrighted, so I maybe shouldnt use it here.. but it came from a 1972 Saab FSM, so thank you, Saab. At least I gave credit. I understand the three shaft setup, with the first and third parallel to each other (this is the system used on my Zcar, as you already mentioned.) There is a tendency to retrofit later CV axles, ESPECIALLY given the difficulty of rebuilding old halfshafts... parts availability, you know. Now I understand what makes this superior.
  19. GD: where might one "read up" on said theories? this is something that I believe my elders are all ignorant about, because I always get fuzzy answers from them about it
  20. well, here. My question is, what is all that Cold like??? its friggin FREEZING down here, I ACTUALLY had to close the windows and turn the fans off.. AND I am wearing sweatpants right now!! Sheesh, this winter thing is BRUTAL  Cheers!!
  21. As awesome as you are, and as much as I like you, Connie.. I hate you. And First Union (Wachovia) for being sticklers with my dad, while we were up sheet's creek and he was less than six months from paying off the loan on his brand new XT-6 (AND only two months behind) TOTALLY the "coolest" car I have ever ridden in... and I know at THIS point the air suspensions are all shot.. but man, when that thing picked itself up, and set itself down.... it was the bee's knees man..
  22. That is from another thread that came up recently... figured I would save him the re typing. this WAS an ea82 install that he was talking about.. should they be the same? clicky for the thread from which that statement was gank'ed.
  23. he Jumped It. that picture there, illustrating the area and the damage done.. thats priceless.. just a snap outta the HTKYSA, with a big red arrow drawn on it courtesy of paintbrush. I love it!!!
