  1. i have issues like that when i deicded to drive before letting the car warm up completely. after about 2miles it's fine
  2. try pushing the button while you have the remote pointed up under your jaw. It sounds and looks ridiculous, but on my old car it'd get a much greater distance doing that (it actually uses your skull as an amplifier somehow)
  3. as well as sometimes people get a floor full of coolant too............ my core went out in my corsica, but luckily i only had the insta-fog effect, scared me cuz it happened in like, june.
  4. i always felt that it was something to do with the transmission in general , since it happens in gear, how much should i expect a mechanic to charge me to change out these rubber pieces? i know it's something i can't tackle on my own
  5. i do this as well, does this cause damage to the car in anyway? i never assumed it did, but you know what they say about 'assume'
  6. my 95 also has this 'feature' except i notice that when i experience the shakes, i slip it into neutral, and after about 2 seconds i slip back into drive. if i release the brake in the slightest and let it roll just a hair and re-brake the shakes happen again. i figured it was something to do with the car not knowing to let out of gear, or whatever, when the brakes were applied. my brakes squeal sometimes as well, but the pads are fine............. as far as cleaning the throttle, how would i go about doing that? does it need to be removed or can i simply spray a cleaner of some sort onto it (you're speaking of the 2 little pulleys that have the wires that pull back and rev the engine right, 2 because i have cruise ?)
  7. i'm thinking you're on the right track, worked fine today, must be sticking when it's cold, was rather warm here today and it worked just fine.
  8. so new years eve, i stumble to my car (exagerated) key would not go in the drivers door lock. i have my girlfriend open passenger door with her key. i assumed my lock was more frozen than hers.......... yesterday try it again, my key would not open either door, upon inspection, my key's teeth were duller(sp) than hers, so i tried hers. still no luck. the key goes in about 4/5 of the way and it feels as if the cylinder is bent in the door somehow. has this happened to anybody else? i was planning on getting a remote start/keyless entry/ alarm in the near future anyhow, but if there's an easy fix for the time being it'd be nice to lock my car up w/out having to open from the passenger everytime
  9. weird, i had the first reply on this last night, and my post is gone, AND i had a private message pop up, but when i checked my in box, there's no messages...........
  10. what makes the key go bad in the first place, mine's a lil chipped but since i threw on the new pully/balancer the belts haven't flown off
  11. cupholder and , oldly enough, center dash trim (part that goes around the stereo/climate controls) are items i'd be willing to buy from you
  12. deffinately appreciate the input. Yeah, running wires will be tough, but it's something to fill the void of time that i have. I'm sure it won't be perfect, and realistically i dont see this project in full swing till the spring anyhow. i just wanted to get some ideas and i did. thanks a lot. yes, the flash drive thing will be a must, however i want the hard drive, just in the off chance i go on a trip and need to bulk up with some movies, or possibly some Emu's for the passengers. we'll see where it takes us.
  13. Power controllers for startup and shutdown DC-DC power supplies to avoid the use of inverters altogether Only reason i'm doing a sub box is i also have that lying around to be used. Some of the guys on the forums use 6x9 boxes or even custom cases that resemble amplifiers, but i'm really going for cheapest solution for the first run of a car pc. deffinately some great ideas, and while i am tech savy, i'm also a cheapskate (hence the 100dollar legacy that i own) I've never used the seperate power amps/eq before so that'd be new to me. I already have a few EIDE hard drives, as well has notebook hard drives here at my disposal, that's why a box is more for me. I'm sure temperature will play a factor but as far as shock, i was looking into stripping out a deffective cd changer and using the rubber grips to fashion a shock absorbing house of some sort. I do intend to fashion a dvd drive, i was actually thinking of mounting it in place of my defective cup holder (c'mon, how tight would that be?!) cables are of no importance as i work for an electronics retailer and don't pay margin mark-ups. I'd simply need help in crafting a housing for the LCD if i didn't get a motorized in-dash retractible unit. If i didn't score an indash retractable, i'm fairly certain a 7" widscreen LCD is the same size as the double din cutout in the dash inwhich it'd be pretty simple to mount it there, plus it'd leave plenty of space behind it for whatever else i wanted to slap in there (usb hub for wif adapter, external usb soundcard (if i didnt use an fm modulator), etc.) the main goal in doing all this is simple. boredom. I'm the kind of person who'd rather have fun toys in the cab than put expensive performance cars under the hood. nothing against gear heads at all, i just don't hold the same appreciation for mechanics as i do for electronics. so, the pda thing wouldn't be for me simply due to cost, it's a great alternative, had i not aquired the bulk of the componants already. any other ideas ? how about gps software, any freebies out there? blue tooth is an interest but aside for my hands free headset i've not used it much with anything else
  14. i'd consider a laptop, but it'd actually be more expensive that route. i've already got the motherboard/cpu, ram, hard drive. i simply need the display, power supply, and any other materials for mounting the display. if i dont get an in-dash touchscreen (deck style that retracts), i'm going to attempt to craft a 7" lilliput display in place of the cd player i have in my car. the next issue to tackle would be, where to put my cd player? has anybody on here ever reorganized the location of their electrical components in a similar fashion? anybody?
  15. Does anybody here have experience with carputers? I really want to build one and i've already got a nice via motherboard and sub box to mount it in. I guess i'm just curious who out there has attempted this, what were your roadblocks/successes. http://store.mp3car.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=73 know where i could find something similar to that for my 95 legacy? I'd think i'd just need a double din dash replacement, perhaps fashion one from an aftermarket stereo kit or something. exciting times:headbang:
  16. i belive in my 95 LS i had to remove 2 screws from the inside of the center console arm rest to remove the gear shifter cover, which lead to the ability to peel back the center dash (after removing the ashtray and cupholder. this may not apply, but go ahead and check for it just in case.
  17. So i got avk's harmonic balancer in today. Boy, was mine destroyed or what!? i didn't realize the key way was to go through the entire pulley! mine (bad one) was gutted out to where only half of the keyway was existant. Me and pops threw it in, as the key in my shaft looked to be fine. Blue locked it, tightened it to about 150ish (it was still turning) and fired up the engine for an initial test. Looks to be holding well. A little bit of a waller in rotation but i'm really not that concerned. After all, i do have another one from ebay coming as soon as paypal clears if need be. Just wanted to throw out a huge thank you for the support. I'm not sure what i can do to contribute to the community, but if something comes up and i think i can help, i'll help as much as i can. :burnout: :burnout:
  18. my head is spinning............... to be safe i'm gonna take you up on your offer AND get the one from ebay. still be under 200bux that way
  19. will the 96-99 fit my 95 I've taken a few pictures of my faulty one, if anybody would like to analyze them, give me a shout, either on here or on AIM :Dj3stripes
  20. The day before it happened i had it in for an oil change and a tranny fluid change. The wear on the piece looks as if it was done over time, so i can't really storm into the shop and demand repairs............... found one parts store that can order it in a few days................. 289!?!?!? does that sound like the right price!?
