bah i've cleaned cd players of all types, disc changers or single players it's not hard at all. wow, it's weird saying cleaning cd lasers isn't hard yet earlier this week i was contemplating replacing the hvac due to a few bulbs being out........... in any case disable the unit to where you can see the laser. take a q-tip, dip it in rubbing alcohol and give the laser a few strokes........ if you have access move the laser all the way to the outside (as if a disc were in there). This is called reseting the laser since discs are read from the inside-out.

Too much oil?
dj3stripes replied to mtbe's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
I live in an apartment so i dont have anywhere to change my own oil. Is there a replacement plug i could get to make it more clear to the lube guys as to which plug is which? I've had no problems yet but I'd like to prevent them -

on a similar note: is it bad to have the oil changed more often than the 3month/3k rule? I have a small leak that doesn't show significant loss but was curious if I could just change every other month as long as it doesn't cause damage. I know it's not addressing the leak but last I heard it was a rear main problem (according to the mechanic it was taken to before I bought it) -
props. this saved my rump roast and it was very very easy. Just a bit overwhelming but once i found the part at radio shack (amazingly the 16 yr old kid new what i needed) worked the first time, didn't break a single bulb, although a condom did rip however it played no part as it was for the AC button which lights blue. I can't believe I was considering a new HVAC altogether. I've read about using LED's to replace but I'm not willing to go through all the trouble, however are there different colored 'condoms' for purchase anywhere? I'd like to do Blue for the fan speed if possible. Last but not least, I'm not sure if it was addressed or not, but if your turn signals don't work after doing this repair check that the hazard switch is plugged back in BEFORE bending under the steering wheel and under the hood checking fuses

greetings from omaha, what part of iowa were you in durring the storm? pretty big drifts here too but i stayed in. only thing i had to do was move the subie out of the garage, dig my girlfriends plymouth laser out and get it in the garage. that sucked, the laser could barely make it out of it's parking spot but the legacy just charged through, such an awesome feeling!

yup, bumping an old post. made some progress http://www.flickr.com/photos/dj3stripes you can view the 'phases' on the right side. unfortunately i started taking pictures after i tore out the ashtray/lighter plug, however since most of you know what a mid-nineties legacy looks like, it won't matter much.

ok, this is going to sound a bit stupid......... I had my center console ripped out of my 95 legacy sedan. When i went to reassemble it, I noticed that the bulb for the gear shifter was dead. I wanted to remove it and replace, but I can't get the bugger out. How do I get this thing out?! I assume that I can take it to an auto parts store and show them what needs to be replaced.... however I need to take it out first!

this may be unrelated, but when i had my corsica and the blower was going bad, if i tapped it while the engine was running it'd kick in again, eventually tapping turned to pounding, and over time it wore out. for me it was the blower, not a loose connection so give it a few taps , see if it makes it kick on if so you've found your problem.

i've got the battery drain covered. power supply/shutdown controler prevents drain by turning off the computer after a predetermined amount of time, adjustable with jumpers and it monitors voltage going to the power supply so if it drops below 12v it'll shutdown as well........... however, what's the differances between batteries and alternators? good better best , ?
-
so what makes an alternator better than another? whas the obvious sign ? price? warranty(affecting price).......... seriously i've replaced alternators before in other cars, and the ej22 engine setup doesn't look any more difficult. i'm going to be running a computer in the car so i know it'll take more amps, thus i want to swap the alternator and battery before i get stranded up on a mountain doing 4x4:headbang:

Thank you so much for the newb write up. I can count the amount of times I've used sandpaper on one hand. And I'm talking mainly about using it to smooth wood projects. How does the cold weather affect this process? I have a garage at my apartment, but it still gets a bit cold in there as it's not heated and we're only seeing highs in the 20's this past week. How much water did you go through? Could i use an electric sander for this or should elbow grease be the only means for this project?

oh yeah, totally the forums there are helpful until you ask a question and get for not searching. the problem i have with searching is the terminology. i don't know how to word some of the things i want. believe me i know how to use search! i'm probably gonna get these: http://cgi.ebay.com/M2-ATX-Car-PC-CarPC-Carputer-160W-DC-DC-Power-Supply_W0QQitemZ140072762980QQihZ004QQcategoryZ3670QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem and http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150087386626&fromMakeTrack=true how are you running power to your pc? (when i ask that i mean, physically getting the wires back to where you have it housed)

cool cool, i dont necessarily need outlets as much as leads to tap into but that sounds like a great plan beings it has fuses and relays. a question about the battery. is there such thing as a 'better' battery? what would be the 'highest' bettery i could throw in a 95 legacy? i honestly don't know what would make a battery better than another , so don't laugh.

ok. so in my conquest to making a car pc i've decided i'm going to remove the ashtray and lighter to give myself another 'din' if you would. I need to know what the screw sizes are for the trim around the radio as well as the ashtray. i dont have most of the screws from previous times that i removed the trim. also.... if i want to wire something that requires 12v DC, can i simply splice a line from the lighter, or is it more complex than that? I've always wondered how one gets more power to components w/out outlets:rolleyes: p.s. i figure instead of buying a new cupholder i'm going to core out the one i have, clean off the sticky residue, and turn it into a slot loading dvd-rom drive

back to the topic at hand, when i had this symptom (weird buzzing noise after car is turned off) i popped the hood, and gave the relay (at least i think it was, it was behind the passenger headlamp with 4 pipes coming out of it) just a quick *thump* and it went away. One time it did the same thing and i just let it go, 2 hours later when i went back to the car it was still making the same noise. *thump* it worked again, hasn't done it since this summer
