so u were sayin they wernt balanced before? hmmm lol i had idle problems with my hitachi, it wouldnt idle from cold, and i set that up to run 3.1% it must be somin 2 do with the hitachis. and that was to get the best out of it as poss, if you can, do the same, as said, balance first, and then if you can get hold of an emissions tester, and set it up to run at bout 3.1% as far as i know, thats the optimum for power, which is the only thing im worried bout haha! MPG is bout last on my list! otherwise you can run alot lower than that, and get back your MPG, but sacrifce a bit of power

LMAO! SICK BLUD! hahaha, you got my idea matey! just didnt want it as hardcore as that! wot tyres you got on them rims, look like rally jobs?

HAHAHAHA! brilliant! ive had the OMG that engine is small! thing to me as well, best thing to say back is somin like that or, well gets yours out then and we'll see whos the biggest! whats it look like in the arches? is fender flaring then required?

different engines just have slight tolerence differences ive had the same, the old field basher used to fly! but my road one just dont seem to have the same go really, and the other engine was strong, ive had 2 now that are blowing rings very slightly (it'll be fine!) lol and neither seemed to go quite as well, thats why a blueprinted engine will go so well, cause all the tolerences are to a minimum, your just lucky if u got one that is slightly better than another, slightly more blueprinted hey hey! lol! best cheap mods to give an EA81 a bit more go, cheaply, port the heads a bit, get the cam done, and the old skool way, skim the heads, somin 2 do with timing is a bit of an issue cause of it im not sure i cant tell u, run larger spark gaps, some advance, good qual plugs and leads, and if ya can, make up a twin carb setup or at least get a good carb on it, and your be good for quite a bit more!

right, well the only one thing i am not really 100% a favourite of is the lower front part of the brat, it almost looks a bit imcomplete, well, i think it does on mine, ive got a A bar on mine, i like it, but i would like to get rid of it, but want to fullfill the front a bit more. i have already removed the bumpettes for a cleaner look, have never been keen on them! im really likeing this though, as mine is lowered as well, maybe making it a bit more agressive, almost into a very small understated 'splitter' almost, kinda maybe flare the bottom out the way other just a tad opinions people!!! has anyone kinda seen this done before, piccys, and any saying on what you would do to do it?

hey there, got any general pics of your machine, im quite interested in what you got!

yeah man, good to see that someone else has done the opposite to the jacking up, i am in the slamming group myself, dropped it around 40mm, the front is stiff and the back is in theory on the bumpstops, you get a nice little bit of negative camber on the back, but still got the positive camber on the front, which will be sorted! i was wanting to do somin with XT spring/shock setups, but the avalibility of them is very small where i am, would you say that the KYB shocks are a good little upgrade, or just the same really, just a bit newer?

well, RAM do their own dual port heads which i was gonna originally purchase, but he offered me all the SUB4 stuff, so i had it as a kit (still had to do quite a bit!) RAMs heads are modified versions of the original heads, u send him your castings, and he'll send you some modified ones back, they consist of 3 way valve job, stainless valves, bronze guides, ported outlet (as it remains single) and dual ported inlets with intake flanges my intention with them was to whack some big ole IDA webers on them and just run that for a while the kit that ron offered me, consisted of, cam, carbs, inlet manifolds, twin spark dizzie, thermostat housing, some braketry and heads. the heads, which are TRUE dual ports, both in and outtake, the biggest downfall, u gotta make ur own exhaust! and there aint alot of room between the subframe and the exhuast port on one side! but shes runnin on 3 really rich atm, and seems to go as fast as when it was before, so when its all tuned in, with different jets, shes gonna shift! the RAM duals are capable of 200 with a blower, and 140 with efi is quite possible apprantly with them , im quite sure you could get that with some properly tuned carbs mines meant to run 115 and 130lbs with the cam in, which i aint done yet, i want to whack some 48's on it, lighten the flywheel and reprofile cam even more, lookin to get up to 160/170 N/A with EA parts -

well, standard EA81 engine, apart from a cherry bomb, K&N and running it at 3.1%, downhill ive had 117mph with a couple of hundard RPM left, 120 is possible, maybe a tadge more, dont like doing top speed runs, causes ALOT of strain those last few MPH bearing in mind the wheels and tyres ive got and it being a bit lower and alot stiffer helps with the handling ALOT at higher speeds, even then things start to waver! anyone got an idea bout the 5 speeds, might need one after my engine is done! -

that would make quite a neat setup, one on each port for me i guess you then have to setup fuel pressures, high pressure pump and lines then, omg, im not ready for all that again! -
i dont actually have a pic of the finished article, all the parts on, the last one is about the closest (ive had to experiment with various things) The only thing i can think of being a bit difficult is the water passage, as mine is completely different, and seperate, instead of right next to the inlet, using the same gasket surface, you would need to knock up a flange plate which you can then weld what you like on for your water passage, again, not too much of a challenge, and if you can get access to the right equipment, would be quite easy the alternator location shouldnt be a trouble for you, so a balancer tube will be easier to fit, ive had to cut up some old oil filler tube off my other trucks to make it go over the alternator, works a treat!

hmm, interesting, is it that pic which shows seperate manifolds? it just shows a red cross at me 2day for that pic yeah, would be mine that one hahahahaha!!!!!!!!! well, if your handy with carbs, i reakon it would be pretty easy, but ive started with a whole new setup, and its being a bit of a *************** to be honest! if your gonna keep with standard ignition and stuff (in other words, dont touch any of it) your basically need one 90 deg bend on each side, and a small tube for balancing the 2 which would need to be hard lined, because its a vaccum, and then a sealed, solid nipple for a vaccum for you brakes and advance on the dizzie, not too hard, and a twin throttle cable setup, again not too bad, ive made one out of homemade parts, it works nice, shall put some pics up of it, and then you need to remember that the carbs are gravity fed, well mine are, so a small adjustable pressure regulator is also nessercary, all in all, if you got the carbs, would cost me about £80 max i would say, and thats overdoing it, its worth a go in other words, and if its not going well, you can just put the standard setup back on, oh, and you need to get a thermostat housing as well, with a subie thermo in there, or somin that does the same job and run a water pipe with T piece for the heater in it and fuel T piece. my carbs are 36mm 'round slide' carbs, they have a plunger in them instead of a butterfly, i can take out the jets and have a look sometime to see what they are, but i need to get mine goin properly first its possible alright, somin i would give ago if i had them laying around or were cheap, and most of the stuff you could make without 2 much trouble if you've got a creative mind and your a bit handy. all in all -inlet manifolds with balancer tube and vaccum holes (two 90 deg bends basically) -twin throttle cables -fuel T piece -fuel pressure regulator -sepertate water passage with thermostat and reader, with inline T piece -and 'thats it' i can put some pics up of mine when it was halfway and stuff, but its late for me now, shall put up 2moz

EA81 turbo conversion using EA82T
backinbrat replied to backinbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
hmm, yeah, didnt think bout the whole port sizes on the top, surely both those would be a bit small, but if i used everything that would come on the turbo manifolds, and esstentially 'converted' them into duals, would it would work if you had a standard EA81, and bolted all the EA82 stuff onit would it work, and is it even a 'bolt' on? -
EA81 turbo conversion using EA82T
backinbrat replied to backinbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
lol, ok, i got these SUB4 heads, inlets, carbs, cam, twin ignition system and some other bits from ron at RAM engines about 2 months ago, they were in his for sale part of the site, na, these are carb manifolds, with a pair of mikuni 36s on it thats what mine looks like (its not completely finished in that pic) and no, cant say i did, how old was he, and where in sussex, its quite big! (ish) -
right, so ive had this thought bouncing around in the back of head for a while, ive heard of the S/MPFI conversion on the EA81s from the EA82s and am quite interested into moving that on somehow, basically i want to turbo my EA81 its not just a case of getting one and bolting it straight on anymore ethier, and i dont want to do a EA82 conversion as i might as well do an EJ, as ive said before i want to keep the EA81, its kind of that originallity thing, like AE86's, want to keep with subaru parts from that era the 'problem' i have now is that ive got SUB 4 dualports on mine now, so it would have to have a dual setup on it, and i dont really want to go buy a manifold from RAM, cause there well expensive! hahaha! basicically the question is: turbo converting a EA81 dual port with EA82 T stuff, ideas guys!

hmm, sounds like fun, yeah, im not sure on the whole taper thing, and both ends ive found are rounded, but i have had the problem of the stub axle out the box doesnt really line up that well on one 180 deg, maybe thats the trouble you've got, have you tried to move the axle in and out by hand to help dislodge it? does sound like its well in there though! be careful with the heat matey!
