  1. lol, man, thats bout what im getting atm, and im packing it super rish on twin carbs lol i got 30.2 mpg with my orginal setup on a 300m trip, i thought that was alright! and most of that was at 80-85mph
  2. well....spacers sounds like its only gotta be a few mm, just whack some washeres welded together behind it, jobs a gooden
  3. yeah man, its fine, i had the same thing, i got a bit scared, but realised there was no shake anywhere else, she'll be alright fella just take it for a proper good burn
  4. right well i have been looking around at suspension upgrades on my EA81, i have looked around and found these varitys of shocks, what are the opinions? http://www.spax.co.uk/selector_html.php (then classic cars, followed by products) a thought i had was also adj coilovers, if you got some and took the bottom brackets off, or blank bottom ones, and redrill the top mount, and wah la, front coilovers, like tiens or spax etc, that would be proper smart, and using camber/caster plates on it, have adjustable camber/caster opinions please! and any ideas, critasisms welcome, anyone else thought along these lines?
  5. ah, bollocks to that then, i was gonna knock it out in a day, cba with oil pump and heads, ive only just put my new heads on it cam is matched for heads and carbs apprantly, some of you know my SUB4 setup, tis a bit different oh, yeah did forget bout the equal wear, but ive got it lying around and was just gonna whack it in, think its best wait for the forged internals rebuild to put that in, might just regrind it again and max it out
  6. right, well i have tralled the threads od USMB, and i cant seem to find anywhere about removing a EA81 cam, i swear i have seen it somewhere! can anyone direct me to the thread if not, what is there that needs to be done, and anything i should watch out for, and how do i retime the cam, i have a performance upgrade SUB4 cam to go in do i need to remove the heads for this?
  7. yeah man, looking forward to seeing it! keep us posted! the front part where your number plate is mounted is different compared to the standard brat, its flat all the way along the bottom, which was used on the cars, instead of having it risen up in the middle, i guess to accomodate bullbars and A bars better, and you will notice a chrome bar along the bottom of your original truck, ive got it as well, and its a little protection mount bit, which the bumpette things mount onto in other words, i want the front end off yours! look for old legacy turbos, pretty much the same as imprezas, just cheaper and more avaliable ive found, make sure its a turbo though, otherwise you will end up with dual range still! lol
  8. i guess yeah, i know exactly what you mean bout the old golfs, mates got a rooded up caddy which he just dropped GTI mpfi lump in, has got that GTI front lip bit, looks quite smart, and the sorta thing i mean, i just dont want too much body theres a PROPER smart datsun 510 pick-up on page 69 of dec 08 issue of jap performance, thats the look i would like whilst were at it, im in the nov 08 issue of japanese performance page 93 ;P shame i didnt make any of the pics, just the text! lol i will be in a mag next year!!!!!!!!! haha!
  9. yeah man! i like the sound of that! i did look at springs in demon tweeks, and they all seemed a bit out of reach, but have been to a mate today, and he used to be a specialist mechanic for EA, but now does mostly EJ stuff and he said that some adj's coilovers come with like a blank unversal mount, which might be able to be modded to fit onto the truck, me likes the sound of that! full adj coilovers all round! along with camber caster adjuster plates, that would be proper sorted! the EJ route for modding parts is one that is not as hard as it seems for some parts, my mate also explained you can used hub assembly off the EJ and get some driveshafts rewelded with the right splines and legnth, then you got EJ brakes and wheels, but 'bolts' on ive been told the earliest legacy diffs go striaght in as well ratios obv arnt as much as a worry when RWD, so it dont matter if it changes dw man, you sound just as mad as me! hahahaha!
  10. mate, thats smart! yeah man, welcome to USMB! another UK user here as well! ive got a truck for a complete EJ engine, running gear and suspension swap waiting as well, lol as well as the road one. have you got any details from the previous owner, or who done it all up, i wanna know where he got that front valance! all that needs it to be lowered! that would look soooooo fat man!
  11. yeeeeeeeeep, im on there as well! http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2271064 needs a bit of updating but most of its there!
  12. now thats a nice conversion, respect on that mate, i like it alot, with the (excuse my ignorance) but with the EJ mounts, do you only need to elongate the mount holes, is there anything else that need to be done? keep up the good work mate! keep us posted! :-p
  13. would say its somin to do with the mixture, CTS sounds quite convincing, mine does the same atm, but thats cause of the carb setup, start it up from cold, runs real nice, warms up, mixture changes density with the heat and runs lumpy, doesnt help that it keeps fouling the plugs as well GRRRRRR lol
  14. evening mate, i like the ideas, your thinking along the lines of bigger brakes, rear lsd, the sound, and some power the welded rear diff idea, im not too sure bout, things dont seem to be overly strong on the trans side of things, im not sure i would be keen on the handling of a welded rear diff, i know what its like on tractors, dont really like the idea of it on the road and yes, the escorts and 86's thats where i get alot of my ideas from as well
  15. whats all this about then, it almost looks like a promotion of performance parts or somin? http://www.indysworld.com/80s/fun/projectrudy/lcparts.jpg if so, ROOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!
  16. thats just ROOD, nice one mate, i do like the bumper/sump guard! very nice! howa much!
  17. so u were sayin they wernt balanced before? hmmm lol i had idle problems with my hitachi, it wouldnt idle from cold, and i set that up to run 3.1% it must be somin 2 do with the hitachis. and that was to get the best out of it as poss, if you can, do the same, as said, balance first, and then if you can get hold of an emissions tester, and set it up to run at bout 3.1% as far as i know, thats the optimum for power, which is the only thing im worried bout haha! MPG is bout last on my list! otherwise you can run alot lower than that, and get back your MPG, but sacrifce a bit of power
  18. LMAO! SICK BLUD! hahaha, you got my idea matey! just didnt want it as hardcore as that! wot tyres you got on them rims, look like rally jobs?
  19. HAHAHAHA! brilliant! ive had the OMG that engine is small! thing to me as well, best thing to say back is somin like that or, well gets yours out then and we'll see whos the biggest! whats it look like in the arches? is fender flaring then required?
  20. different engines just have slight tolerence differences ive had the same, the old field basher used to fly! but my road one just dont seem to have the same go really, and the other engine was strong, ive had 2 now that are blowing rings very slightly (it'll be fine!) lol and neither seemed to go quite as well, thats why a blueprinted engine will go so well, cause all the tolerences are to a minimum, your just lucky if u got one that is slightly better than another, slightly more blueprinted hey hey! lol! best cheap mods to give an EA81 a bit more go, cheaply, port the heads a bit, get the cam done, and the old skool way, skim the heads, somin 2 do with timing is a bit of an issue cause of it im not sure i cant tell u, run larger spark gaps, some advance, good qual plugs and leads, and if ya can, make up a twin carb setup or at least get a good carb on it, and your be good for quite a bit more!
  21. right, well the only one thing i am not really 100% a favourite of is the lower front part of the brat, it almost looks a bit imcomplete, well, i think it does on mine, ive got a A bar on mine, i like it, but i would like to get rid of it, but want to fullfill the front a bit more. i have already removed the bumpettes for a cleaner look, have never been keen on them! im really likeing this though, as mine is lowered as well, maybe making it a bit more agressive, almost into a very small understated 'splitter' almost, kinda maybe flare the bottom out the way other just a tad opinions people!!! has anyone kinda seen this done before, piccys, and any saying on what you would do to do it?
  22. yeah man, good to see that someone else has done the opposite to the jacking up, i am in the slamming group myself, dropped it around 40mm, the front is stiff and the back is in theory on the bumpstops, you get a nice little bit of negative camber on the back, but still got the positive camber on the front, which will be sorted! i was wanting to do somin with XT spring/shock setups, but the avalibility of them is very small where i am, would you say that the KYB shocks are a good little upgrade, or just the same really, just a bit newer?
  23. well, RAM do their own dual port heads which i was gonna originally purchase, but he offered me all the SUB4 stuff, so i had it as a kit (still had to do quite a bit!) RAMs heads are modified versions of the original heads, u send him your castings, and he'll send you some modified ones back, they consist of 3 way valve job, stainless valves, bronze guides, ported outlet (as it remains single) and dual ported inlets with intake flanges my intention with them was to whack some big ole IDA webers on them and just run that for a while the kit that ron offered me, consisted of, cam, carbs, inlet manifolds, twin spark dizzie, thermostat housing, some braketry and heads. the heads, which are TRUE dual ports, both in and outtake, the biggest downfall, u gotta make ur own exhaust! and there aint alot of room between the subframe and the exhuast port on one side! but shes runnin on 3 really rich atm, and seems to go as fast as when it was before, so when its all tuned in, with different jets, shes gonna shift! the RAM duals are capable of 200 with a blower, and 140 with efi is quite possible apprantly with them , im quite sure you could get that with some properly tuned carbs mines meant to run 115 and 130lbs with the cam in, which i aint done yet, i want to whack some 48's on it, lighten the flywheel and reprofile cam even more, lookin to get up to 160/170 N/A with EA parts
  24. oh! sorry! i did miss that, the tyres are quite dominating in that pic! nice one matey! looks good, also the stubby look EA82, looks good i personally prefer it to the original
  25. lol, yeah, loads of them, check out http://www.sussexjapclub.com im the event organiser on it! lmao, and i got the slowest machine hahahaha
