  1. Well what happened was... my new treads caught up a stump root on my left side, on about a 20 degree slope. that stump increased it to over 45 degrees. i flopped sideways. shattered the passenger window, completely crumpled front fender and door. i finished off bending the heck out of my control arms. :madder: got the parts and am fixing it today! it also damaged the corner of my roof and popped my ski rack off. the old dependable subaru started right up and ran the rest of the way and home.
  2. well .... good and bad news... i think the shaft i just put in was an ea71, that nappa gave me so it's stretched a little... but, hopefully someone will bring spare front axles. Now for the convoy down. i'm leaving gig harbor at around 0600, arrive at marysville at 0730 to 0800. chop fenders leave my house at around 0845 to 0900. pick up my last pasenger, then be at Tex's between 1000 to 1100. then to evans creek!! an easy evening run will probably be in store after we reserve camp spots and set up our camps!
  3. well that sucks, you'll definately be missed (can't get you to stay around when i come home) :boohoo: but life will go on. did you get the message of where the money was left? i don't know if i can stop on the way to ec, maybe monday... or god awfully early friday ie 7:30am...
  4. i'll be staying at my dad's in gig harbor that night. my plane comes in wednesday night. and i got to get the parts in the morning of thursday and tacoma is a lot closer. i just need a crossmember off a 4 speed d/r tranny, i think that's part of my tranny shifting sideways problem :cornfuzz: If i don't find an axle then i'll have to go to napa $60 versus about $20 round about
  5. She's not going to be able to make it due to my step dad is coming and ... grr... the whole they don't want to feel like chaparon's. and a bunch of other bs they fed cayce's mom......... :argue: not been a fun argument. but when i make a run to reiter later in the week i'll make sure she comes. i'm sorry she can't come monica i wish she was.
  6. it's such a large snapping noise my dad could hardly drive down the road.... i got to replace it. it'll brake on the way to marysville, is what i'm afraid of... :cornfuzz:
  7. I know that's what's scaring me if i don't get at least one axle i'm up $^!% creek with no paddle!! cause one axle is beat to hell and rusted bad, and sitting with no grease for about 8 months
  8. can't wait to see all of you again!! i'm so excited i day dream subarus, i can't sleep cause i'm seeing subarus and what suby mods to do next... god i think i'm certifiable, i don't think i should tell the gov't that
  9. well in 2days my plane will land in washington. and i'll be out of this hell hole!! then for the frantic junk yard run early thursday morning to retrieve: 2 front axles 1 4 speed d/r crossmember w/mounts I need to find new seats too! then... front right axle replace tranny crossmember install install hand throttle bob the fenders (cause the new tires rub in the back pretty bad i guess.) install mount for gps on the dash gather all tools and put in car clean inside of the car (cayce's job my g/friend) then i'll be heading friday at crack of dawn to marysville from gig harbor. pick up subafly, meet tex and sail on down to EC. and hope no other problems get in the way.
  10. No Espresso!! i think i planned this trip in the wrong place!! what's the world coming too!! hehehe.... sorry. but espresso sounds so good and they don't make good espresso on this east coast. :boohoo: there is a couple heads, excuse me restrooms/outhouses in the campground. other than that there is mud holes (probably dried mud holes) that you can bath in, and squirrels to bring you nuts and berries... just kidding. sorry i'm in a smart-alick mood. But hey subafly you can pick you tires up tomorrow... Tp is always a good idea. now beer hmmmm. you know what they say "old enough to die for you country old enough to drink for it!!" i don't drink beer yet, only hard liquor. (i'm in the marine corp that's why i can say that if anyone doesn't know)
  11. just means you;ll be less likely to lose a bead. they have more weight tearing at the bead at a lower pressure.
  12. hey i'm moving to yuma and will be up in the pheonix (can't spell) area 4x4ing all the time. so hello.
  13. wether you have a bow or not at that low of a speed is not the issue. because your tire will conform to whatever rock or root is in your way. and when each tire holds 2855lbs a tire at 10psi ain't nothing, there is no bow let alone a lot of tire squat. you need to know your tires and i know mine, and what they can be at. my tires were thick 6 ply bias ply's. the weight of my vehicle couldn't hardly get them to began squating till i get to 14psi. and over 25psi they hardly touch the ground but a strip down the center.
  14. your house or that area sounds great!! i'll try to round up subafly and have him meet me in marysville, and convoy to your house. i'll need new directions... maybe they are still on my mom's computer. if there's no one joining us from the seattle or lower area, we could just hit 405 down.
  15. don't know who and when everyone is coming?. but i was wondering if anyone wanted to convoy down there with me? i'll hopefully be leaving about noon. anyone in for it? also wanted to know which days i'm expecting for each people to arrive? Thanks.
  16. depending what terrain i'm running is to how much i air down. like when I went up lake isabele trail. it was being a pain to get traction, my car was hopping and that's what killed my axle.. so i aired down and gee i had tracition and got right up the rocks. i was running like 8 to 9psi( only because the tires cooled down when we had snow starting to fall.) If i'm just driving some where to play on some small stuff, or a quick trip, then i keep highway pressure, which isn't more than 25 psi with the bias ply tires i had. i usually run around 12 psi cold with my old tires, now i need to find a happy medium for my new tires. if i don't air down it's a lot bumpier and more impact when a tire comes back down, along with i do notice the traction difference. not airing down makes my car bounce all over, and i break more stuff, so there's no way are you talking me out of it. i see too many benifits, and to little draw backs not to. 1. less bumpy 2. less impact on parts when tires comes down 3. better traction 1. largest drawback you might lose a bead (been there done that) 2. lose a small piece of diff clearance, (not enough to worry about, 8psi up isabele lake tr.) i've been 4x4ing since i was 11 and i've seen situations that go both way's for airing down. but i've seen a lot more benifits come from airing down. judge your terrain and what your comfortable with. just trying to give you guys an article for those who air down to take estimates to find there happy medium for airing down.
  17. yikes way too much! i got the special used one, the last one and it ran me $100, thanks mike! still needs some tuning but works great!
  18. "Why air down? Airing down does two basic things to help us maintain traction. First, it allows for a longer and wider footprint. This is important because the more rubber you keep in contact with the terrain, the more traction you will have. In many cases, you can increase your contact with the ground over 200% by airing down. This will increase your overall traction as much 800% assuming you have 4 tires on the ground. The second thing airing down does for us is that it allows the tire to conform to uneven surfaces. If you imagine your foot for a moment in heavy boots standing on a log, you can see that only a very small portion of your foot is actually in contact with the log at any time. Remove the boot and stand on the log with your bare foot, and your foot can bend and conform to the log giving you a much more firm grip. Tires need to do this when trying to get grip over rocks, gravel, sticks, etc. The difference is truly amazing. An added side benefit is that reducing the pressure in your tires softens the ride tremendously while off-road. How much air should I use? This is an issue of MUCH debate. Land Rover recommends that the stock tires should not be aired down below 16 psi in the front and 25 psi in the rear. In truth, with a standard load in the rear, this is probably good advice. If you take out too much air, you run the risk of rolling the tire right off the bead. This is very likely with the stock tires since they really don't grip the rim all that well to begin with. With off-road tires in the larger sizes, you can go lower. I have had my 215/85r16 tires at 12 psi without trouble but I don't recommend going that low. I will defer to a chart provided by Oasis-Offroad. They have taken the time to determine optimum tire pressures for off-roading for a range of different sized tires on vehicles of different weight. While the chart is by no means comprehensive, it does offer good insight into what you should be looking at. Please note that Oasis maintains no responsibilty for the accuracy of this chart and bears no responsibility if you have a loss. So you can see that this is really not a complicated affair, but one that every off-roader should pursue if you want maximum traction off the road. One thing of note. If you plan on airing down off the road, be SURE you have a way to get air back into your tires when you are done." article by j of Arizona Backcountry Thought this would be some interesting info for all you four wheelers out there without having to join this club.
  19. i can't wait!! i'm just itching to go wheeling. so much to do!! as soon as i arrive i got to snag up 2 front axles from the junkyard and one d/r tranny crossmember, throw one axle in place of the bad one, throw the tranny xmember in and then hook up my GPS on the dash!! can't wait!!
  20. i didn't mean the first trailhead. the only shelter i remember was when you are entering the campground, either take a right, straight or a left shortly ahead. it was right before the start of the easy trail going out of the campground. is that where you meant? i think that was a turn around too. or is it the left or the right section of the camp when you are heading in. that way i know exactly where i'm tagging the shelter. and i don't grab the wrong site. SubSandRail: Bring your ride. because it's not just the hp that's invited, all makes and models that want to come. i was inviting several non suby's that i 4x4 with. they might not be able to make it though, due to the fact he bent the crap out of his front drivetrain on his yota, and he's frantically trying to get his solid axle conversion in on time. i am a hatch patrol member, but this was something i was throwing together, for every 4 wheeler on this board that wants to come, and for all my friends. HP or non HP.
