Looking for tube buggy pictures with subbie running gear
newsoobdude replied to Scott in Bellingham's topic in Off Road
Same with Wyoming. As long as it has mudflaps it can be driven down the road, atleast 6 years ago you could. -
EA81 CA Smog w/o CA engine Questions
newsoobdude replied to newsoobdude's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I live in Amador County. 44 miles SE of Sacramento. Savage- I DEFINATELY second ditching the smog setup after the test, but I have to pass the test first to drive it legally on the street -
OK. After switching out 3 different D/R 4spds and still having no 3rd gear, I've given up getting my parts car driving and will be yanking the engine out of it and putting it into my Brat. My only concern is the fact that I live in CA and have to smog it:( . I've never swapped an engine on a car needing smog so this will be a first. The engine is from a Nevada car and runs good. BUT, does it have the necessary goodies (engine parts wise) to put into a CA Brat w/ the necessary smog crap? My main concern is having to tear down a good running motor to add the necessary parts. Does everything that's not included on the Nevada engine bolt up w/o having to teardown my engine? Sorry for the stupid questions but, as I said, never had to deal w/ smog before on engine swapping. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I know there are very few people out there who have managed to lift their EA71s. I'd like to see pics of them and the list of mods done to them, including lift size. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know of a 5 speed D/R that is for sale but the guy does not have any info on what the trans came out of. Is there a way to ID the diff gearing on it and any way to tell if it came from a turbo or N/A? I have a 5 speed D/R out of a turbo coupe w/ 3.7 gearing but I need the 3.9s and a N/A trans. Any way to ID these things before I drop the chunk of change???
-
Well something happened so I cannot edit the reply I JUST posted (WTF?!?!?!?). Can I take the 3.9 parts out of my D/R 4 speed and put them into the 5 speed D/R? Or am I stuck with the 3.7s on my soon to be lifted rig???
-
OK. So I have a D/R 5 speed I just pulled from an 85 Turbo 4 door that has 3.7 gearing. I have just the trans. The vehicle I was going to put this into has 3.9 gears. I'm SOL w/o swapping to the 3.7s:confused: . I want the 3.9s and everything but...

D/R 5 speed driveshaft Q's
newsoobdude replied to newsoobdude's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm replacing the bad d/r 4 speed with the d/r 5 speed in my 83 GL Wagon, if I can get all the parts for it -
D/R 5 speed driveshaft Q's
newsoobdude replied to newsoobdude's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Seems I cannot find any driveshafts from a manual so......... what about using one from the automatics???? Will it bolt up to the 5 spped or will I need to modify it???? Also, what about using my stock ea81 d/r 4speed driveshaft?? -
No, I will do that later when I have more cash.
-
I am going to go about lifting my 83 GL Wagon atleast 6 inches but no more than 8. I'm wondering what mods besides the steering shaft lengthening I have to do to my steering. Will just lengthening the shaft work?

D/R 5 speed driveshaft Q's
newsoobdude replied to newsoobdude's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
OK. Sorry, I just want to know if I will have to modify the length or anything. -
Alright. My d/r 4 speed is down so I figure I'd replace it with a d/r 5 speed. I cannot find the driveshafts for the d/r 5 speed but found some for a f/t 5 speed. Will this work as well for my 83 Wagon? I know the center support will need to be mounted up and all, but otherwise is it the same length and will everything bolt up? I have not been out to the yard to check because it is a Lonnggg drive to get there for nothing.
-
Does this include the d/r 5 speeds?
-
Alright. I've tried the forum searches and everything and cannot find any info. I've heard that you can swap the rear diff on the EA series cars to the front. What does this entail:confused: ??? I'd sure like to have a front LSD w/o spending bookoo bucks on it so maybe I'll just put another rear diff in the front. I'm going to be lifting my EA81 wagon atleast 4 inches to start with so............ Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Southwest Subaru meet 2/15/07 MLK jr weekend
newsoobdude replied to s'ko's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
If I can get my soob taken care of by then and the weekend off, I'd be happy to join in the fun, I can visit w/ the fam too:clap: -
I read alot of threads in this section and some people mention video's they made/ have and I was wondering how to get copies. Alot of the older posts web addresses are defunct for the stuff they used to contain (video's, pics, etc.) I would really REALLY like to get some video's of Subes In Action (particularly the Rubicon Adventure) and other assorted videos. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, what happened to the majority of the pics that used to be in the treads???? Alot of the older threads say pics included, but none are there. It would be nice to have the ability to see some of these pics everyone was talking about. (For example in the FAQs section under make your own lift w/ pics included.....NO PICS!!!!!!)

I just bought a stock 83 gl Wagon with the D/R 4speed. Trying to shift into third does not work except for once in a blue moon at high (4500+) rpms. I am mechanically stupid:clap: and have not checked anything yet but any ideas:confused: ??? I know 2nd and 4th are WAY down in stick location but when I try for third all I get is a grinding sound (like trying to start a car when it's running) when I release the clutch. I'm told possibly fluid level, but it checked ok and as for linkages.....well I haven't jacked the car up yet. Any ideas or imput would be greatly appeciated.

I'm more intersted in making this car handle better and taking it from there. I was planning on an EJ w/ ATLEAST 1 turbo (but twins are preffered:grin: ). My main concern would be keeping it from plowing through corners (hense the canyon carver theme). ULTIMATE SLEEPER (minus the Justy that runs 12.60:headbang: ) that will keep up with a canyon carver:brow: .

I had a Yellow Top Optima in my truck w/ an 1800w stereo. Accidentally left the keys in the "on" position and the stereo going. Lasted about one hour. My friend did the same in his truck only in "accesories" w/ the volume down and maybe an 800w stereo, lasted 6 hours before he realized and started the truck. Mine, I had to get jumped and it KILLED my Yellow Top. Now I have a Blue top, but I haven't tried that "test" again as it is expensive to replace Optimas (w/o your receipt that is). I'd like to run dual batteries as well once I get my Wagon going and get all my lights and then a winch when I have the $$$.
-
Yeah sorry I got on a brain fart. It's an 85 1600cc 2wd. If for some reason I buy it off my friend I'd be converting it to 4wd. But I was just wondering because he says they are unique to the Hatch and hard to find.
-
What is the difference between the Hatch struts and Wagon/ Brat and Sedan struts??? Is there any interchanging between and or retrofitting???
-
I do agree and was going to do it in stages, 1st being the EJ and 5speed swap ( I HATE automatics). Second a 6-point roll bar. Then do the suspension and AWD swap later on as time and $$$ allow. I can use an AWD tranny and just not connect the rear output to anything right (sorry it's super early this morning and I'm on s-l-o-w still)
-
I saw that Brat too but now I cannot find that web site:confused: . Can anyone help me find it??? That is basically what I want to do this sedan:brow:

Thats what the EJ20T is for, and BTW, it wont be stock for long (engine that is)
