Doing some upgrades for mom's 98 Legacy L (Pics inside)
86BRATMAN replied to 86BRATMAN's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAlright. So I ended up doing more than I had planned for the day. But it was a nice result that followed so I won't complain. The stock brakes suck, single piston, small rotors. I hit a deer in this car last year because they just wouldn't get me slowed down, plenty of room and non excessive speed, the brakes just didn't do anything. So I had some of the T-Legacy 2 pot fronts here that I was going to use for a five lug swap on my hatch. But my mother's safety is more important to me than that. And after the road trip in this car Saturday, it was the last straw for crappy brakes. Before, w/91 LS alloys. After, w/two "new" front axles and T-Leg brakes and wheels. And just for the heck of it, 175k and and still going strong Next on the list, some new ngk plugs, subaru wires, knock sensor and front o2. Since all but the plugs are original... And replacing that dented filler panel, paint the wheels, and give the ol' girl a new paint job all over.

86BRATMAN replied to 86BRATMAN's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI wish it would rain more... Just not while I'm under a car:rolleyes: The Clinch River here is down drasticly, I'm guessing its a good two feet down from "normal" levels for this time of year. For the first time in my life that I can remember I can see the bottom clearly. I got the passenger's side axle, brake upgrade, and wheel done. Came in for a snack break. I ended up yanking off the heat sheilding(rattling anyways) from the exhaust and that gave me clear enough a shot to get the pin in and out nicely.

94 Legacy Non Turbo Oil Pump Info Please!
86BRATMAN replied to Milemaker13's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt should look just like the pictures, except not that clean:grin: . The o-ring is all that you need, plus a clean mating surface on the block and pump and some good rtv, and a through tightening of those screws. I used the Permatex like mentioned above when I resealed a MY92 ej22 a few years back before putting it in my 95 brighton. And I'd agree, since its off get the new front seal. PN 806733030 from Subaru. It costs about $9 from the dealer(can't find my invoice so I'm not 100% on that price) And is just good preventative maintainence.

86BRATMAN replied to 86BRATMAN's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI've got the 3/16 punch, I did the d/s side axle on this car last fall, and I got all the tools needed for the job then. I suppose I'll give it another good look as soon as it dries out some. Bloody rain... Thanks for the response.

Doing some upgrades for mom's 98 Legacy L (Pics inside)
86BRATMAN replied to 86BRATMAN's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOk, I found a ripped boot and no grease on the passenger's side cv joint. I have axles to replace it with. But the exhaust blocks my path the get the spring pin out. And I can't get at it with enough force from the top. Any tips or tricks before I have to go buy some new exhaust gaskets?

Doing some upgrades for mom's 98 Legacy L (Pics inside)
Well... I'm finally getting around to it. Her stock brakes are due to be changed, they suck horribly. Lack of braking power caused me to slam a deer in this thing last year. So I finally got her talked into letting me upgrade the wheels and brakes to the ones I have from a Turbo Legacy. I'll have some before and after shots in a few hours. Wish me luck:headbang:

Replacement O2 Sensor, 1993 Impreza
86BRATMAN replied to SubaruGoddess's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCorrect. It will plug in directly to your stock plug. No messing around with wire in replacements. Also, your car is obd1, so you only have one o2 sensor to deal with.

I've searched and searched,no luck...
OK, thats what I thought the 80 model had in it. So any of the ea81 4wd's will work directly with your stock linkages. Another plus to this swap is that you will be able to have a lo range 4wd as well, as long as you get a GL tranny.
-
I've searched and searched,no luck...
They should work fine. You're 80 has the 4wd lever beside the e-brake handle right?

Diff Clunkin???? 88 XT6 5 spd
This was going to be my guess, right after asking if it was front or rear. But I'm assuming rear because thats the axle you thought was going bad, right?
-
I've searched and searched,no luck...
As long as you are swapping in another ea81 4wd transmission you won't need to worry about the driveshaft length or anything like that. You will need to use the front part of the exhaust for the ea81 motor. They are slightly wider than the ea71...
-
I've searched and searched,no luck...
You cannot use an ea71 bellhousing on an ea81 motor. They just simply won't swap out. And the clutch and flywheel are different on top of that. To use the ea81 you'll have to find a matching ea81 4wd tranny.

I believe it to be due to weak springs. Thats why the wrx springs are a good upgrade.
