  1. Any ideas on how to track down a vacuum leak with minimal cost? I checked all the hoses & connections and they look ok, when its at low idle and coasting my brakes barely work so i definitely have a vacuum leak, but where for gods sake WHERE??
  2. Someone has more money than brains...and I envy them
  3. I read this in the article: In fact, the entire engine and transmission are not only mounted very low down but also within the wheelbase which further boosts chassis dynamics. Does that sound right? I thought the engine hung over the front wheels. Anyway, I want one when it comes to the good 'ole USA!
  4. http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp similar but not as detailed
  5. I had a 90 GMC pickup with 280k that my dad bought new. When it died it had been through 2 transmissions and ran GREAT. My wife rear ended a group of about 12 kids going to rehab Not a record by far but far over 90k sako!
  6. Ok, I have searched as best I can and I cant seem to find a good place to start looking to figure my problem out so here goes. my 87 rx 5speed recently started to idle high (1700-2500 rpm) and the turbo light no longer functions. When i goose the gas it idles low (600 rpm) for a few seconds and then goes back to high idle. A (previously owner installed) vacuum guage indicates about 0psi at idle (used to be about -10). The previously mentioned goose caused the vacuum to jump to about-10 then creep back to 0 as the idle climbs. Other than this the car seems to run just fine except that I seem to be getting 21mpg instead of about 23 i used to get. Of course that could just be my right foot.
  7. Hey, I have been looking for tires for the rx too! I found some Kumho Solus KR21 Tires at the website 1010tires.com in that size. I would like to get some 195 60 14's on pug rims, low profile but not so wide. I am not sure how 205's will fit. Lemme know if they work.
  8. THX for some reason searching amazon from the homepage resulted in NO results, a google search took me to a 3rd party site that took me back to amazon where I ordered the part. 'What a time to be alive' - Jasper Beardsley
  9. wish i had a 1996, I have a 1997 2.2 and it is interference
  10. OK, So I am living up to my name and being very lazy about installing this new axle. Here is the question I have: Does anyone know where to get good axles for an ea82 turbo car?? I just called autozone and they said the only axle they carry for this car is Duralast. According to Autozone GCK part # SB-8005 (I got that # straight from the GCK catalog) is no longer available. The guy at napa had never even heard of GCK. PAP time?? or should i just bite the bullet and get a duralast. I also found Cardone, has anyone used these? I apologize if I am beating a dead horse but I cant find a good axle!
  11. WOW! 20+ mpg That is why is costs so much. It will pay for itself in just a few months with todays high gas prices.
  12. My question is....Now What??
  13. http://www.finleyweb.net/JonsStuff/SubaruDocumentation/tabid/54/Default.aspx was listed some time ago in this thread http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=82976&page=2&highlight=manual The EA82 manual is an 89 FSM (partial)
  14. Not necessarily If the diameter of the feeds is increased it could go slower and pump the same volume Q=VxA
  15. I swear, I thought the car was 18 years old!
  16. I got a sweet set of Einkes I will sell you for $1400 +shipping from washington, they would look great.
  17. Will you adopt me so I can move in and sleep on the couch and watch the TV? I will bring my own engine.
  18. Hes not talking about REAL wood is he?? just typical old vinyl probably. I have seen plenty of that stuff out there. JC whitney has some http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-Browse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2006573/p-2006573/N-111+10201+600002169/c-10101
  19. Stock scissor jack worked perfectly, Thanks GD and 94 you have been a huge help.
  20. OK, Please forgive me if this post is ignorant. But hey, I'm in a bind. I am trying to replace the rear axle on my dirty dirty 87 rx 5 spd. I did exactly as the 'keep your subaru alive' manual page 359 says, to remove the TOP of the shock mount from the car. I assume this would do the same thing as GD suggested by unbolting the bottom of the coil over. The problem is that I still cannot get the axle to slide away from the diff like the book says. Both pins are totally out and when the axle slides as far OUT as i can get it the pin holes line up perfectly. Any suggestions? Thx Major 'Too lazy to hire a mechanic' Lazy
  21. Thanks a lot GD. Sorry I forgot to add this is a 5mt car. I will just tell the guy at autozone I have an 88 rx then.
  22. The catalog does not list a half shaft for my '87 RX, the earliest listed is 88. Does anyone know if these ('88) will work or am I out of GCK luck? I called Autozone and they said that Duralast is the only one available for my car. Duralast just SOUNDS like cheap chinese crap. Should i go to subaru for these? Thanks,
  23. Sorry if this is a Noob question but I have to ask: The EA82 service manual I downloaded from the link provided is listed as 1989 in the manual. Is this the same as a 1987 FSM? or should i look elsewhere for the manual for my '87 RX? Thanks Also (not meaning to look a gift horse in the mouth) it appears that chapter 3 is missing?
