  1. I trust the outside temp sensor on the digital dash. The frost on the windshield had already melted so I figured I was OK. Thanks for activating me! Have a Merry Christmas, I'm off to go open presents!!!!! Frank (fshnidiot)
  2. 1978 4wd wagon. Rootbeer brown. That car went everywhere. Everything from following lifted 4x4 trucks until they got stuck and then driving around them with a beep beep to jumping it 25+ feet in the air multiple times (what a BLAST)off the dunes in Long Beach,Wa. It finally siezed up at the George after a Styx concert. It started up and ran fine for 10 seconds and just stopped. My dad came over and towed me home to Marysville,Wa with a 20 foot piece of rope tied to the pushbar. 6 hrs. of holding down the brake to keep the rope tight at 40 mph with no sleep made me never want another Subaru for a long time. I'm happy I got over that now. I still miss that car. Frank (fshnidiot)
  3. All signed up,waiting conformation. I bet I'm the only nut out washing their car at 8:30 on Christmas morning in 34 degree temps. Thanks for the XT link, Frank (fshnidiot)
  4. I'll be hooked up over there real soon. The previous owner just had the motor resealed in the shop and had them replace all the hoses, clamps, radiator, water pump, timing belt, etc just to be safe as all those parts were 20 years old and due for replacement. Right now that motor is about as tight as they come. I had to replace my 87 Nissan Sentra DD with something since the struts & front brakes are TOAST and I wanted a subie turbo 5 speed w/4wd so I'm completely happy. I've already got a new windshield lined up for $249 installed so once that's in I can dispose of the cup 'o noodle car and have 2 Brats and an XT to chose from. Frank (fshnidiot)
  5. Merry Christmas to all!!!! And Merry Christmas to ME!! Here's my new 86XT Turbo I just brought home for Christmas. Everythings there, and it all works including the adjustable suspension and digital dash. Only 108,XXX miles. All it needs is a new windshield. Not too bad for $1000 cash. Runs and drives like a dream!!! I found it on Bellingham Craigslist, I don't know how all you guys missed it, but I'm glad you did. Frank (fshnidiot)
  6. Looking good!!!! Is that my old manifold all cleaned up?? That baby's gonna rock with that Weber on it!!! Frank (fshnidiot)
  7. I have a gen 1 tall rollbar I'm going to put into my 82 Brat. It looks like I'll have to drill new holes in the plate to get it to bolt into the bed behind the cab and the legs that go to the fenderwells will need modification/shortening too. I might just go without them. Other than that it should be an easy fit. Frank (fshnidiot)
  8. I just installed mine in my 82 Brat. All the vacuum hoses can go except for 3 that you need. #1 vacuum hose from the manifold to the Brake booster. #2 Vacuum hose from the manifold to the heater controls. (check where it goes through the firewall on the passengers side) #3 Vacuum advance from the carb to the distributor. I removed the vacuum canister and all the extra hoses and connected all 4 of the large hoses from the valve covers and the air induction system together and routed them to a seperate breather/air filter. The PCV valve hose goes into the aircleaner assembly. I also removed the EGR system and capped it off with a small plate. It's nice and clean with few hoses and has a very noticeable increase in power. I haven't ran it enough yet to get a good idea of the gas mileage but it doesn't seem like it's burning any more than before. If you can find someone close by with 1 already installed looking at their setup will help alot. (I did alot of research at WCSS9 before I put mine in) If I'm wrong about something or missed something someone else please chime in and correct me but that is what has worked for me. Hope that helps, Frank (fshnidiot)
  9. Good to hear. Isn't it nice to be able to use reverse again!! Congrats!!! Frank (fshnidiot)
  10. I just finished mine about a week ago. I used the bolt from the shifter in my 84 2wd parts car that holds it to the shaft. After hacksawing my way past the hole I added a lock washer on each side and bolted it up snug so it squeezes tight on the shaft from the tranny. The bolt was a perfect fit so I didn't need to drill out the hole. It works sooooooooo much better it's not even funny. I can grab reverse with 1 hand instead of using 2 and wrestling with it. Hope that helps! Frank (fshnidiot)
  11. Sorry I missed you too, having my sidekick Odie with me kept me pretty busy going from bush to bush all day. He can't pass a tree or another dog without stopping. Send me a PM and we'll get the parts figured out. I wish I would have gone up with the others when they went up into the trails, I'd have crossed paths with you for sure then. I got to explore for a few after the awards and that place is AWESOME!!!! Good to hear you made it home safely, I can always look foward to meeting you at next years show!! Frank (fshnidiot)
  12. Thanks to everyone involved in putting on that show!!!!! That was a blast!!! How many days left till next year and where's it gonna be at? BTW the trails in there are awesome! I had the place to myself after the awards and spent an hour up there havin' a blast. :burnout: I'll definately go back there again. WCSS#10 or bust!!!!! Fshnidiot
  13. It's all pretty simple once you get that darn pin out. I agree on the hole on the outer sleeve being the culprit, mine was oval shaped as well. The improvement was worth every drop of blood and bruised knuckle though. Frank (fshnidiot)
  14. I lost some blood but I managed to get it out. Did the sloppy shifter mod and put it back in in the dark, but it shifts soooo much better. Thanks for the offer on the bushings but I've already ordered the 1 piece on the end of the shifter shaft that had completely disintegrated to dust.I can grab reverse without using 2 hands to do it so I'm doin the banana dance!!!!!  Thanks, Frank (fshnidiot)
  15. Much better!!!!!!! Now if my thumb will stop bleeding from the hacksaw slipping.... Fshnidiot
  16. I already have that at the top of my list for both my Brats. That was planned before I got either one but for now I'm in the middle of hacksawing that piece of #%$#$%@! so I can clamp it up and go. I thought the pin in the halfshaft was a pain. Yikes!!!!! I finally busted it loose with a 6" long 1/4" extension. After an hour or so of hitting my hands and everything else in range but the punch I was using. Well, break's over, back to the hacksaw... fshnidiotzzz
  17. I'm trying to get the sleeve that holds the shifter off the shift selection shaft on the tranny.I've got the cotter pin out but I can't figure out which direction the pin gets driven out from, up top or down below. Where's my BFH when I need it!? It's a 4 speed dr in an 81 Brat. Any suggestions? Frank (fshnidiot)
  18. OK, so which direction do you drive the pin out of the sleeve that sits on the tranny shift shaft, from up top or down below? It's so sloppy loose I can't get it to hold still in the right position from either side. It's a 4speed dr in an 81 Brat. Thanks for any tips, Frank (fshnidiot)
  19. I'm in the middle of the same thought process and they're completely different. The 5 speed 2wd shifter sits up top on a plate and the 4 speed shifter sits along the drivers side. I'll bet you have the same worn out pin he mentioned, I certanly just found out I do. Off to the manual to reread the shifter slop info.... Frank (fshnidiot)
  20. Sweet!!! I'm headin' for Lynnwood..... Frank (fshnidiot) Thanks for the update!!!!!
  21. I've got 'em (2 full sets)but it rides sooooooo much better on the 14" peugeot rims and I like the added ride height with the larger tires. They might get painted and go back on when I do my custom paint scheme in a few months but I'm happy with it for now. Frank (fshnidiot)
  22. It's still there!!! PM with info and phone # sent.
  23. I'll go for a drive and check. If it's still there I'll get the phone # and get back to you in about 1/2 hr. Glad to be of help, I wish I had it when I was looking. Frank (fshnidiot)
  24. There's a mid 80's (85-87?) Brat I saw for sale up here in Arlington the other day. Body needs work and some paint, but it had the cleanest, brand new wagon wheel rims I've ever seen  with chrome hubs. I think he wanted $1950 obo. If your interested and it's still there, I can check on it and get you more info. Keep an eye daily on Craigslist, you never know what'll show up next. Good luck on your quest, Frank (fshnidiot)
