"Yes I can, I built one at just over 600. A similar but much more modern and driveable build is going into the lambaroo." looked like you were responding to the guys post above you, where he said xt6. everybodys got a 600 hp something, just not an er27. i got motorcycle motors with more hp than my er27. im perfeclty settled butthead

well they sure aint street machines either. oddball in the middle.

if your rear main seal is leaking oil onto your flywheel, it could get on the clutch. then when the oil gets burnt off(when you slip it) it will grab again. this is an unlikely scenario, and id bet your clutch is going out. or what he said above, way too tight of a cable.
-
600 what? 600 dollars into the motor? no way you got 600 hp out of any subaru motor, especialy your "built er27" im calling the super duper bull shot award on that one. wish you could prove it to me tho, that would be cool. i vote stroked 2.5.

exactly like that, but with bigger tires. er27 and 6lugs, solids front and rear... damn, after i finish this kz1000 restoration, i might get all twitchy on my hatch again... all this body shortening and lengthening is not interesting to me in the least bit. just pick the hatch, or wagon to switch wheelbase length. you realy dont want anything shorter than a hatch.
-
i could build mine for less than i could buy a toyota pickup for. one subaru 100-300 dollars axles springs, other crap 300dollars tires 400-500dollars er27(with xt6) 100 dollars not so bad i rock the subarus because they are the cheapest of the cheap 4x4.

a hatch on solid axles, with an h6 or ej22. 32s or bigger

Wheel Bearing Spacer *FIXED*
archemitis replied to Seahag1978's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
oh damn that sucks. you can build one with a piece of pipe that fits over the cv shaft, or you have to look for one from the same series of car. i have no idea if the 78 brat stuff is the same as ea81 stuff. i would hope so though. -
Basic road trip Subaru toolkit
archemitis replied to fj401968's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i usualy end up taking a 1000 mile road trip during a blizard, and sub zero temperatures, so my list is very long. two things have screwed me a number of times alternator timing belt (you only reely need to bring the one side) and all the tools to change them. i also bring a distributor. dont bring the whole half inch set. just bring the 36mm for the axles, and the 21mm(i think) for the crank pulley. during one very unlucky period of my life i brought three full sized spares. from texas to minnesota and back. -
Ignition coil- no spark [FIXED]
archemitis replied to myfinalcoffinx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
see everybody, just listen to me, and everything will be ok =] -
they have such low compression to begin with, thats not the problem. i think rguyver ran less than stock boost, because of the spfi computer and not getting enough fuel spfi, with stock boost and an extra injector should work good

Ignition coil- no spark [FIXED]

oh ya, mine was totaly intermittant, im using the bad one on a car that i just drive around (very localy) for parts. hasnt done it in a couple weeks of short trips, but i know it will screw ;me again sometime -
Ignition coil- no spark [FIXED]
archemitis replied to myfinalcoffinx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
not sure what everyone else is talking about, but my disty has two wires goin to the coil, and thats it, other than a couple other wires from the car(power, and tach wire) no ignighter thingy. you got it right on how the disty works. when you jumped the negative of the coil. you made the coil spark wide open, sparking all the time. i will bet money its your distributor. i never use timing lights on subarus, just stick it in the middle of the adjustment, then turn it clockwise half way to the end of the adjustment. take pics of where the rotor is pointing before you pull it out, so you arent a tooth off when you replace it. -
rims rubin on calipers? what wheels are those?
-
thats why 6 lug is the best way to go. lots more options, and would cost less than custom wheels... 4 inch lift on subarus is nothing. i do circle burnouts, and power slide around corners, on the street. still very stable course maybe the aa lift is all wobbly compared to mine.
-
trackers will kick some rump roast too. im not a subaru guy, im a car guy, i like cars(including trucks). theres no real reason to stick with something just cuz you picked that one brand, and you have to stick with it. id never be caught dead owning a ford, but other than that, its all pretty good stuff. and everything has its place. you could make a subaru do what a lifted *insert truck brand here* but it would be a subaru body with runing gear from *insert truck brand here* it would deffinately take more than an A A lift and some AA wheels. =x

Ignition coil- no spark [FIXED]
archemitis replied to myfinalcoffinx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ok, heres the deal. the coil is an electrical device, that needs positive 12 volts, and a ground to throw spark. there is a wire that gives power to the positive post on the coil. it gets power when the ignition switch is turned on. first check for 12 volts there. if its there when the car isnt starting, then the coil isnt getting grounded. the distributor grounds the coil at the right time, so if it isnt getting ground, it wont fire. this has happened to me twice. i swapped the distributor out on the side of the highway, and it fixed my ea81 for 2 months now. -
fuel injection manifold EA81
archemitis replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
oh ya, and the fuel pump. use the old tank vent line under the hood for the return line for the fuel pressure regulator. use the stock fuel line but replace rubber with efi rated hoses. you use a ford f150 fuel pump in place of the old low pressure carb pump. if you do this, you gotta take the plastic breather jug out of your rear passenger side wheel well, and rerout the breather, to the correct hose. super easy i swear! =] -
fuel injection manifold EA81
archemitis replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you guys should try a search, but im feeling typey because of all of that yagermeister, so here goes... you can fuel inject the ea81, with the spfi(single port fuel injection) stuff from an ea82. you put the manifold on the ea81 heads. bolts right on. you get rid of air suction valves, and pcv. make block off plates, or weld them up. modify ea82 distributor to work on ea81. this is realy easy, theres diagrams of it all over usmb. then the wiring is all you have to worry about. should be well documented... or even easier, and my favorite option! find an xt with the mpfi. multi port fuel injection. pull motor. pull harness, and computer, thats in the trunk. run about 4 wires, onto the mpfi harness, from the stock harness. install the ea82, just like it was meant to be inthere. 85-86 is the easiest efi to work with, because it uses an old carburetor style distributor. then you got alot more power, compared to the ea81. and installing a motor would be easier than pulling the spfi harness out of the car. ths spfi computer and wiring is burried, compared to the mpfi from the xt. the mpfi wont bolt onto ea81 stuff without special heads. or somehting crazy. ea82 is alot easier to do than the ej. the ea82 bolts up to your tranny. woot! efi for the win! -
i have a bunch of subarus, they are great. take a hell of a beating for a car. but thats the problem, they will always be a car. sad to say, im gonna be offroading my toyota 4runner next year, cuz im tired of bouncing all over the place, and having to ram rocks with speed to get over them. jeeps are for suckers =p

fuel injection manifold EA81
archemitis replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
costs more than any subaru i will ever own... subaru already did it for you. spfi from an ea82. pretty easy swap. -
it looks great from the top. no rust where they usualy rust, looks reely solid. pop the hood, and you can see the tires through the strut tower. the rear diff hanger/mustache bar, pulled out of the body! leaving the diff hanging. then i was doin some urban offroading and the rear controll arm cracked/bent twisted, untill my wheel was sitting like this / very scary. i welded the controll arm, and used some ratchet straps to hold the diff where its supposed to be. i just dont get it. i have another one thats rusted on top, but solid as hell underneath. since that controll arm broke, i started thinking, ea81s might be alot more succeptable to bad rust associated problems than ea82s. any thoughts?

cold engine hessitation
archemitis replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
um... guys... thats what carburetors do. they dont have an enrichener, they have a choke. the choke just chokes the engine of air, so it runs richer. no making power when your choke is closed, or partialy closed. efi motors shouldnt do this as bad, because they just richen the mixture up. you can still get alot of air in the motor, and the extra fuel makes it run ok untill its warmed up you can adjust your choke, and maybe make it a little better, or just let it warm up for a couple minutes. its truly the nature of carbureted engines. -
noob question about boxer sound
archemitis replied to nkx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
this realy shouldnt be such a long debate. motors that are designed differently will sound different than other motors... regardless of exhaust. the harley is the best example. -
ea82s fit almost just like stock.
