  1. AND a turbo, no less :-\ - according to the decals on the car anyways
  2. Yeah our car manfacturer Holden (GM subsiduary) makes some pretty wicked cars and exports them. Whilst in Australia these cars are 6 or 8 cylinder - but were sometimes shipped out with disgusting 4 cylinder motors. It's mad for a big car. Ford Australia has been in the same boat before. An EJ15?? I have not even heard of that motor. Some of the EJ16s plod around Australia - I thought THAT was pushing the envelope in the power stakes. Having said that an EJ15 probably runs rings around my EA82
  3. Oh - didn't know they assembled any cars there. *Ignorant Australian Alert* Good to see whats about and whats in different markets
  4. Interesting - wonder why Subaru saw fit to put an EA71 in the beast. Maybe an engine size limitation on imports in certain countries? Had some surplus stock?? I see its equipped with power steer - doesnt look like a poverty model Yes I know most of this shape in NZ are EA82s - just curious though. Am I right in saying most of this model they have in NZ are imported direct from Japan? Lucky sods if that is the case :-p
  5. Apparently it can - I am going to have someone swap the 1.592 gears out of a d/r part time box into a my d/r full time box.
  6. Don't think all the RXs sold in the US were Full Time 4WD - earlier ones were Part Time 4WD
  7. Ahh got it! So can you bolt a 3.9 Single Range FT Tranny to an EA82? Sounds like we Australians (and NZers apparently!) got the lion's share when it comes to the later model cars regarding gearboxes. I have heard of people taking the 1.592 gears and placing them into EJ Dual Range boxes - just to have decent crawling ability. Thanks for clearing that up for me hey
  8. Hmmm - a slight hijack but I'd like some clarification if possible. - XT6 came out with a 3.9 FT Single Range 4WD Box Correct? - Is there such thing as 3.9 FT Dual Range that can go into an RX? Also the EJ tranny would not be lockable? Am I correct in saying that? The Australian EJ models have dual range - but the "low range" is fairly poor in stock form.
  9. Good stuff - What are those wheels off? Peugeot 505 mags or something? Decent looking Peugeot wheels are few and far between in Australia.
  10. Can someone show some pics of any "sports" factory steering wheels that might have been released in the US for EA82? We have big crappy ones over here in Australia! Also are they all colour coded? I have an aftermarket wheel - but just wanted to see the factory variations. Thanks
  11. Yup - from Brisbane, Australia as well - See the vehicle below;)
  12. Yeah thats true. I have too much on myself as well - I have stuff coming out the wahzoo that needs to go into the car. I'll have to put this idea on hold for the time being. (Zefy - no problem on the RX cluster - let us know you get it! )
  13. If thats the case, then "speedo gearbox" it is then. Best I could hope for is a 3.9 - which would not be worth it. Thanks for the replies.
  14. Yes those are good ideas - but I was hoping to have it fixed whilst this box is out and open. My main problem is the odometer - I have to use this at times - the only way to get this right is the "speedo gearbox" mentioned before.. or a different gear.
  15. Yeah I have heard of these "Speedo gearboxes" before - they sit "in line". I have heard they aren't cheap though I was just hoping I could do something with the box apart.
  16. Yes I am the same zefy - I am sick of doing maths everytime i drive I plan to pull my gearbox apart to put in 1.592 low gears into it. Just was hoping I could kill two birds with one stone. A Full Time box would have a gear suitable for 3.7 - I think a 4.44 speedo gear would be good for larger tyres (assuming it would fit!)? Maybe my thinking is wrong..
  17. This might be a stupid question - but I am asking it anyways. My EA82 Full Time 4WD Box is coming apart soon - and I was wondering is it possible to change the speedo gear to match my large tyres? Does anyone know if I could get a speedo gear to fit that would be from a 4.44 gearbox? And is a speedo gear hard to change in one of these once the box is apart? Would this be even "do-able"??
  18. I'll place my guess and say "crap in the jets". A friend of mine recently had similar symptoms and cleaned out his jets - and away it went
  19. Hehe - no it won't. I have a 3.7 Part Time 4WD Gearbox Now and I am getting ready to put a 3.7 Full Time 4WD Box in My car has a 3.7 Standard diff now Thanks for the reply though
  20. First Q : With an LSD from an RX - is there any difference in the splines of the drive shafts from a normal diff? (Like the RX Gearbox has 25 splines not 23?) Second Q: Would a rear sway bar from an RX Sedan/Coupe function properly in a wagon? Would there not be weight differences etc? Any assistance appreciated
  21. I swapped my DL cluster for an RX cluster - its a really big job. You have to change two of the plugs themselves and then change the wires in the 4 plugs too. Looks great - but a really big job. Hmm I think you'd find that the push button 5 speed in your DL does have a 4WD indicator light. Did the car come out of the factory with 4WD? It is possible that the small bulb behind the "4WD" indicator in the cluster is blown?
  22. Not exactly sure where this should be posted - but here's as good as any... Does anyone know the name of the font of this decal? I need to know what the "Full Time 4WD" is - not the following "RX" Thanks
  23. I thought the switch backing console and the gearshift console were all one unit - thats where I was getting confused. So I shall be a hacking my dual range console when I get those parts! Thanks for your help Trogdor
  24. Being in Australia - its hard to find out how these things go together - correct me if I am wrong here. The parts are -: - Diff Lock switch - a small coloured console behind the Diff Lock switch - the coloured gearshift boot console Is it possible, assuming I have the switch and the small console behind it, to cut a hole for it in an exisiting standard "dual range" gearshift console? Confused? Do I really need to go to the trouble of buying a new RX gearshift boot console? Any help appreciated!
  25. Yeah I'll do that - thats been suggested to me before - I was just after a bit of originality - but I will worry bout that later Where does the solenoid for the push button 4WD live? And is it the same solenoid? I'll harass some wreckers on the weekend.
