Who changed his radio in a EA82?
fangster replied to dreedraffs's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I used a spacer - this one was custom made... I have a new Pioneer unit in there now - works well! -
I think its still a work in progress - I would be telling them to replace it with the same model - no questions asked. The car may not have been worth much - but because its so rare here it is hard to replace - it would need to be imported.

Hehe the blue is the one referred to in the post I believe. The MY (EA81) hatch is very rare in Australia. See this link about a very unforunate demise of one recently http://www.ausubaru.com/main/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1171&highlight=hatch

You can see pictures of this and a few other Australian beasts at -: http://community.webshots.com/user/subarino

Hehe I recognise the photo of the lifted blue Vortex (aka XT) on this site - coz I took it That car was (still is?) a beast.

Hmm, personally I found it an nightmare. I have put in a Tacho dash with oil pressure and volts into my DL. It took quite a while - the plugs were different.. the wire colours were different. Mine is an Australian car- maybe there is a difference with US models. There are 4 connectors on mine - all wired up differently to the DL.

Here's the one of out of my DL. Anyone care to have a guess what the top arrows mean? No I dont know - thats why I am asking. My new dashes don't have them. This out an Australian 1991 DL L Series. The colours are not right - the camera didn't pick them up exactly -

Different clusters do have un-used lights in them. In the DL one I ripped out of my car there arrows going at angles - these weren't used. Some clusters have those extra things like "Shift up" - you just havet to put a bulb behind it. I found a blue fog light one I want to use. There is a hazard symbol too (for hazard lights) - I've never seen that one used - in Australia anyways. My disgusting Renault Scenic has an un-used one that is "Baby OK" -
This American company definately ship overseas-: https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/oe_parts_cat.html If you are after suspension bushes, a company called "Nolathane" in Australia might have what you need -: http://www.nolathane.com.au/ A distributor of "Nolathane" I know of in Australia is -: (unsure if he ships internationally) http://www.blackboxmotorsports.com/

Front diff interchangeability: The true answer
fangster replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Oh I read the thread alright. As you can see in my post I was after clarification - coz I have been told otherwise. I have been told, from various sources, it is impossible to fit any other ratio than the 3.7 into a Full Time 4WD Box. It can be done, however (apparently), in the Part Time Boxes I have had no personal experience in doing this - and I am certainly not going to say you are wrong. I just want to find out why I have been told differently. I guess this is really a separate issue to the Front LSD though! Thanks for your reply WJM -
Front diff interchangeability: The true answer
fangster replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sorry to drag up this old post. And apologies if it has been answered elsewhere. I just want clarification on something - coz I saw it mentioned. Can a Full Time 4WD D/R RX Box be made to take one of these LSDs? If so, this would affect the ratio? yes? I had heard you cannot change the ratio of these boxes from 3.7..? -
How do you get d/r knobs off?
fangster replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
LOL sounds classy. Normally they are an "anti-clockwise" affair. Sounds like someone has glued the sucker on there. Maybe it needs some "coaxing" with some vice grips or something. -
Hmm sounds like a fuel return line to me - does your car not have fuel return?

Good Subaru wrecker in NZ?
fangster replied to fangster's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ross - thanks for the leads I'll chase the web for contact details and let you know if I have no luck. -
I am trying to locate some RX interior parts that did not come out in Australia - I am fairly sure they came out in the models in NZ but I am having trouble finding a good wrecker there. Can any of our NZ cousins point me in the right direction? Thanks
-
Hmm seat warmers I can do without - especially since we are in the depth of an Australian summer! Thanks for the offer Scoob555 - I'll have to see what happens. Likewise if you are interested in Aussie parts let me know

Heads and Manifolds for EA82s
fangster replied to fangster's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
A good question Phizinza. I have recently been involved with converting a carbied EA82 to an MPFI EA82. It was an absolute SOD of a job. Way too much pain for me - I'd rather leave it as a carby model. The wiring is not there for computers, etc in a carbied car. The fuel tank is different. It was just so much for pain for us. If I ever travel that route - It will be with an EJ20. I think you hit the nail on the head there, Northwet - I would say the miscommunication came from this. Question is would the dual intake ports be any better than the heads on a carby car? Or just "not worth it"? Thanks to all who have put forward their 2 cents worth so far -
LOL yes i have THAT grab handle - but I prefer the position of that one.. along a pillar
-
Yeah but the handle looks like its contoured - and if I put it upside on the Left hand side of a RHD car it would not be fucntional I need to find the same thing - in a RHD car. I haven't seen them here in Australia.
-
Talk nice to our Finnish friend and maybe he can send some over Unfortuantely it won't work in my case - I have a Stereo and a CB in that position. Incidentally, what's that orange/black switch to the left hand side of the steering column? For the washers? And I LIKE that grab handle for the passenger - would love to get a RHD version of that

Heads and Manifolds for EA82s
fangster replied to fangster's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes I was just toying with an idea. I thought I had read somewhere that MPFI heads at the very least, were 3 valves per cylinder (2 intake, 1 exhaust) My theory was, and it might be totally un-realistic / not worth it, is to put MPFI heads on my car - use a NA spider manifold - and adapt it to put my Weber on it. Obvioulsy some welding would have to be done on the manifold. The point of this, would be to use to the head with two inlet valves with my Weber. That was assuming they exist I am no mechanic and I'm still learning bout different options in Subes so forgive me if its not the greatest idea -
Apologies if these has been answered before - I couldn't see where it had. Does an MPFI or SPFI EA82 have 3 valves per cylinder on an EA82? (2 inlet, 1 exhaust?) I have heard that MPFI is but can't verify it. The NA spider manifold - is this available for both MPFI and SPFI.. or even carby model? Will an SPFI manifold bolt onto a carby motor? Thanking you in all advance!
-
I didn't notice that before - and yeah it DOES look factory. I havent seen one like that over in Australia either. Given that the other models that are "Omega" seem to be 1600 - its still plausible. Maybe one of the NZ'ers could confirm if its possibly a 1600. Its also equally possible someone HAS royally stuffed up and said 1600 instead of 1800. Would the EA82 gearboxes mate up to an EA71 easily? Interesting on the Subarus in Finland - having a look at the rest of that site - you have an interesting cross section of options and models from that era. Subiemech would drool over all your cars there - they all seem to have headlight squirters. (Guess its a necessity!) Do the 85-94 models in Finland have headlight electronic level adjustment? I know some of the German ones do.
