  1. I believe they are from what im told.....i just bought the car like 10K miles ago.....but ive already done the clutch and flywheel, and the timing belt......but it will be a great learning experience........do you know wheather it is easier to do the head gaskets with the engine in the car or out?....the left front one looks pretty difficult unless you remove the engine.....
  2. thanks alot guys......youve been a world of help...and saved me some money.....this forum is great
  3. unfortunatly i have reason to believe that my head gaskets are on there way out for the second time.......i have a 1996 legacy 2.2 L. 185,000 miles. Does anyone know where i can get a set of inexpensive cylinder heads....already built (with cams,valves,retainers,etc...). Any help would be appreciated
  4. Hello all.....just a quick question....I have a 1996 2.2 L Subaru Legacy.....I would just like to know if i can just take a fuel injector out of any other 2.2 L and it would work?
  5. thanks for the tip....i actually just went out to get the book......looks like i have alot of reading to do.....appreciate the help
  6. oh im not new to working on cars by any stretch.....actually im a mechanic.....but im just new to working with turbos......
  7. I have no idea about even starting to install a turbo....the #1 question i have is that if you make your own exhaust manifold......can you pretty much use any turbo you find out there.....i found 1 in a junk yard in a relativly new car and the bearings check out and it looks really good (borg warner) but can you retrofit it....
  8. hello all....i have a problem with something to do with my defroster....every time i press the button for my front defroster the AC compressor turns on....anyone else with this problem...by the way it is a 1996 subaru legacy with a 2.2 liter engine...any help or insight would be appreciated
  9. well i have a pretty bad misfire that i am almost certain is the valve problem....besides the 2.2 has around 190,000 on it. how hard would it be to throw an 04' sti engine and trans in my 96 legacy?......
  10. hello all....i have a 1996 legacy with a 5 speed trans and a 2.2 SOHC engine.....I was looking into swapping in a 2.5 DOHC non turbo.....just wondering if i would need to do anything special (does the ej25 bolt right up to the ej22 trans?...how about the wiring harness? just lookin for a little bit more power
  11. will do.....in all luck it will be something inexpensive......thanks for the info
  12. that is also a good idea..... i will give it a shot.....assuming i see blue sparks i should replace the coil pack?
  13. well i tested the coil pack and the resistances were correct.... primary and secondary. someone told me that the IAC could cause something like this it it is like clogged or dirty.....they said it would like shut off a cylinder to maintain proper idle....have you ever heard of anything like that?
  14. I will give that a try tomarrow....that sounds like a smart idea.....Every time i plug the scanner in though it comes up with the same code P0302 which is cylinder #2.
  15. are you talking about the igniter?
  16. yeah i have changed out the plugs a few times because i have heard that subarus are very "touchy" when it comes to ignition componants..... same with the wires.
  17. my fault.......the engine is a 2.2 Liter in a 1996 Legacy I found out the valves were good with a vacuum test, compression test, and i removed the downpipes and looked up into the heads.....i figured if the guides werent good than you wouldnt get a proper seal in the combustion chamber.....The engine is in one piece i just want to figure out what else i can check until i started digging into the internals. The car starts and runs great....the only time that i get the "MIL" is when im at idle also that is the only time that the misfire is heard . ( i hooked up my scan tool to it and every time i have cleared the code i look at the freeze frame data it always occurs around 500-1000 RPM)
  18. The valves look like they are in good shape along with the guides....i have enough fuel, timing is on, i have spark (new plugs and wires and coil pack).....any help here would be great.....
  19. thats sounds like a smart idea im sure i can harness close to the same amount of power with the right parts.......does anyone know how much power the bottom end of a stock ej22 can handle.......and also an ej25
  20. Have you ever heard of anyone trying to modify that design?.......also a buddy of mine has a 1995 impreza ej18 and he is trying to do an ej25 sti swap what exactly would his problem areas be......any insight?
  21. hello all.....im looking to do an engine and trans swap in my 1996 subaru legacy. I currently have an ej22 with a 5 speed in it and was looking to swap in a JDM 2.0 Twin turbo....does anyone have any info on this swap......i have found some places selling the whole package (engine, turbos, trans, ecu, and wiring harness).....any help here would be greatly appreciated
