tow hooks
EVOthis replied to pamike's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
I actually got stuck on some frozen snow once with my suby because it is lowered and my dad pulled me off of it...and we only used 1 tow hook in the front..i think there pretty damn strong. -
i had pretty much the same exact problem with my 96' 2.2 legacy with 185,000 on it and i was cruising up a hill and lost all power (no MIL and would crank its rump roast off)....for me i found out my timing belt slipped....thank god that it is not an interference engine. In all hopes it will be an inexpensive problem...Good Luck!

You can also raise the vehicle and grab the wheel at 12 oclock and 6 oclock and see if you have excessive play. After you do that grab the wheel at 3 and 9 oclock and see if you have excessive play...if you have excessive play in both directions its either most likely wheel bearings or there is a chance that your outer tie rod ends and lower ball joints will both need to be replaced...... If it is indeed the wheel bearings sometimes you can notice the clearance between the outer CV joint and the hub when you shake the wheel.....Just my experience.....good luck!

Hello All.....I was just wondering if torque bind occurs both in automatics and manuals?...Also I have read a little bit in previous threads about it but still dont get exactly what happens.....Is there anyone who could explain it to me in detail?.....thank you in advance for your time and knowledge....

I know from my experience with snow.....if i have my regular tires on my suby....it doesnt give me a sense of security....i have actually gotten stuck with my reg tires....i also have blizzaks and they do wonders for me....i would say if you have any doubts as to weather or not you will have trouble dont try and conquor it...

I also have a 96 2.2 my front cam seals started leaking at around 120,000 so i would look at those...if they are indeed leaking you will see oil at the timing cover....Also I would double check the pan gasket......I know i have had some oil leak out of my seperator plate which is on the rear of the engine ( not exactly sure which models/ years had the plate)...but it USUALLY gets trapped in the bell housing......if you have some time i would clean off the entire underside of the engine REALLY well than drive the car for a few days and take a look again to see where the oil is located.....good luck!

i had the same problem.....i searched high and low for the missfire ( in my car is was P0302 =cyl 2 missfire) everything from "dropped valve guides" to plugs and wires, i even hooked up the oscilloscope ......it turned out that the fuel injector connectors were swapped from cyl 2 to cyl 4......now my suby runs perfect.......check that before you go replacing things.....i know on my 96 legacy 2.2 the injector connectors are color coated..... OH, also my miss ONLY occured when i was stopped at idle. i also had a very rough idle.

I know when i did my clutch job in my 96' legacy about 5k miles ago everything went great i had the trans out in under 2 hours but getting that thing back in with the car on jackstands in your driveway was hard as hell.....also i dont know if you have a seperator plate in the model/year but i would examine that pretty closely for oil leakage......just my experience....good luck!

I have the same exact problem in my 96' Legacy....I just got finished doing a clutch in it and i noticed that the little spring that connects the shift rod to the stay rod was missing......I didnt bother getting it cause it was a semi-long ride to the dealership, but at first i also thought it was bushings....

i like 2.2 L....I have 185,000 on my 96 legacy and it still runs great...me personally i tend to shy away from the 2.5 because i have had some bad luck when it comes to timing belts.....96 2.2 is non interference...when (and correct me if im wrong) all 2.5 Liters are interference......just my opinion

Personally I would get a pair of cross drilled rotors...not only do they help with getting rid of heat they also dissipate any water that happens to get in between the pads and rotor. I have been looking for a while to upgrade my brakes... I have been looking at AP, Wilwood and Hawk Performance...just my two sense.
