  1. thanks alot JT95 i am working up to be a mechanic not a body guy so every bit of body knowledge helps.....that does seem pretty easy.....its a hole about the size of a cell phone so its not that bad but i want to take care of it before it gets worse......whenever i have the time i will give it a shot......
  2. oh in that case......thank you very much WA...i was just thinking becuase i did the clutch and flywheel not 6 months ago....and nothing was happening than.....the car has a hard 186,000 miles so i really dont want to put a new trans in it.....i will have to research and get money before i attempt but thanks again for info. OH just one last question.....Is it just time and wear that makes the viscous coupler go bad? ....if im backing up making a turn and the noise comes on....i have to like floor it to move the slightest inch.
  3. well the thing that is weird is that it only occurs in the last half of a complete turn....(if i turn slightly it doesnt happen) I have checked the ball joints and they are both ok.......I do need trailing arm bushings rear sway bar links and bushings and a rear drivers side axle shaft (torn boot) do you think any of these things could contribute?
  4. is that hard to replace or is it worth just getting a new trans?.....besides that noise the trans shifts perfectly
  5. thanks for your help guys... yeah tires do all match perfectly.....where does the torque bind occur the transmission or the rear differetial?.....
  6. ok i have a 96' legacy 2.2 with a 5 spd and for the past few weeks i have been getting a pretty nasty vibration when i turn that makes its way all around the car ( can feel it in the seats). i know what a CV joint sounds like and it definately is not that....even though i do have a torn inboard rear boot....but anyways i also noticed that sometimes i have a screaching of the tires when i go around corners when i get the noise.....My first and actually only thought is the rear differential.....the car has 186,000 miles.....anyone else ever have these symptoms?
  7. thanks for the info. fellas! I just need to do something it is getting worse pretty quick....
  8. I have a 96' subaru legacy sedan ej22 and was wondering if the drivers side rocker panel is replaceable as a unit?....i currently have a pretty large rust hole in it and i really dont want to pay a body shop....the prices are outrageous! thanks in advance for your help fellas!
  9. Im not to much for the looks either..... I have heard that the body is significantly stronger though.....
  10. Wow! I have been looking for a subaru specialty tool site/store FOREVER......Thanks Man!
  11. jack the vehicle up.....you really dont have to remove the wheels but it may make it easier...as long as the weight of the vehicle is off the ground than its pretty straight forward....unbolt the old and bolt in the new....while you are under there i would also do the sway bar bushings. :)
  12. I was having the same problem...low fuel light didnt come on at all in ACC but i do believe i have seen it on before though....thank you so much for the info...the photo is very helpful also...
  13. I gotta get me one of them!
  14. Does anyone outthere have a clutch and band application chart for a 96 legacy ej22 4eat auto trans. i have tried ALLDATA and Mitchell OnDemand and all around the internet and cant find anything.....thank you in advance for you time and knowledge.
  15. I think that is pretty cool to see some of the newly developed systems work...especially the one were they were climbing the hill!
  16. thank you..i did a few searches but didnt really find anything concrete...alot of "possibly's" and "it could's".....I have also searched =extensively for a 1996 4eat clutch and band application chart. Do you have any idea were i could find one?....thank you again for your help.
  17. I have a 1996 legacy 2.2 with a 5 spd....any insight on the different final drive ratios that were offered that year???
  18. I actually got stuck on some frozen snow once with my suby because it is lowered and my dad pulled me off of it...and we only used 1 tow hook in the front..i think there pretty damn strong.
  19. i had pretty much the same exact problem with my 96' 2.2 legacy with 185,000 on it and i was cruising up a hill and lost all power (no MIL and would crank its rump roast off)....for me i found out my timing belt slipped....thank god that it is not an interference engine. In all hopes it will be an inexpensive problem...Good Luck!
  20. thats what i thought.....we had a huge conversation about it......and he definately said the Forester...thanks for the confirmation fellas!
  21. Ok.....What i ran into today was this guy who tried to tell me the subaru forester first appeared in the US in 1994 or 1995.....i thought it was like 98 or 99 the forester first came out?
  22. You can also raise the vehicle and grab the wheel at 12 oclock and 6 oclock and see if you have excessive play. After you do that grab the wheel at 3 and 9 oclock and see if you have excessive play...if you have excessive play in both directions its either most likely wheel bearings or there is a chance that your outer tie rod ends and lower ball joints will both need to be replaced...... If it is indeed the wheel bearings sometimes you can notice the clearance between the outer CV joint and the hub when you shake the wheel.....Just my experience.....good luck!
