I think the best solution would be to lift it more! Lift it enough to do the nissan transfer case conversion and put your engine back up to where it belongs. It will be way out of the snow then . Just my 2 cents! Mike

My two cents: Set the parking brake! Rememeber to release it before driving off! Sounds like the Salesperson thinks everyone else is as forgetful as he/she is. Not allowing the gas tank to get below 1/4 tank is a good idea to me. Especially, if it was to sit for a while during temperature changes (cold weather). There is more air inside the tank when it's low on gas, and air holds moisture until it gets cold then the moisture (water) get's in the gas. Aside from the moisture issue, the stuff, gunk, crap, what have you that ends up in the bottom of the gas tank is more diluted when there is more gas in the tank. Also, keep in mind that your car is pretty new and that this is being a little anal. Sounds to me, from the way you asked the questions, that you are all ready pretty knowledgable yourself about cars. Or at least you have pretty good common sense! Mike

Sorry, I can't be of much help with the problem your speaking of. I bought mine for $120 with a whole in the block big enough to stick your hand in and a connecting rod hangin out! That's why I'm doing an engine swap. The shaking steering wheel sounds like an alignment/tire balance problem to me. Yes, Soob power would be cool! Mike

How in the world could two people have the same idea on this one????!!!!!???? I have a 1989 Dodge Raider, which happens to be a Mitsubishi Montero. And, I'm trying to horse trade an EJ22 to put in it!!! If I can get the engine, I'm planning on using a Dual Range EA82 Tranny and a Nissan Transfer case. Now that the adapter for the dual range tranny is all figured out, this would be an excellent combination. My back up plan is to stuff a 4.3L V6 in the Raider, but powering it with a subie motor would be sooooooo different. Glad to see there are other crazy people out there! Mike

I'm afraid a legacy would be too big and heavy, the impreza however has a smaller look to it. Is the Impreza actually any smaller or lighter?

After reading several posts in this section, it sounds like the EJ22 is a very reliable motor but not some versions of it???? What different models of cars came with the good version of the EJ22 motor? Thanks, Mike

What are you saying Eric???? Wanna trade your newer subie for this monster hatch???? That might be a cool project, stuff a dual range in a newer subaru with the EJ motor using the adapter that John, Garner, and I came up with. Then add the transfer case and Toyota Axles....... I don't know Eric, if I go through the trouble of putting the solid axle in the rear I'd just do it to the front as well. I really did enjoy the flex of the solid axles on the XT6. So Ken is really liking his conversion??? What are Ken's plans now, is he going to go with a Toyota Rear Axle so he can get a locker?? What are your plans for your Hatch, especially now that you have a dent in it?? Mike

Well, I did it! Traded off the XT6 monster for a little monster Hatchback. It has an 8" lift, nissan transfer case, webber carb, custom bumpers, 30" swampers, and so on..... This is the car that Cory, the previous owner, had at WCSS6 for those of you who were there. He fell in love with my XT6 monster at the show and when he caught wind I was looking for a hatch, he was more than happy to trade. I am very excited about the car, but I'm a feeling a little crazy for tearing this thing limb from limb when so much has already been done to it. For those of you who don't know my intentions, I want to either put solid axles under this thing like I did to the XT6 or build a custom long travel suspension for it. All this thing needs is lower gears, and I happen to have R180 diffs with 4.37 gears in them that would swap right in. I guess I have about two weeks to decide what to do. After that I had better transfer the title into my name and stick with it. Until then, I pose this question; anyone out there want this awesome hatch? I would want a nearly perfect stock one and some cash in trade for it. This thing is in great shape, Cory is a very detail oriented guy and this car is truley awesome. Whoooooooo, let's all keep our heads. I take no offense to any of Rick's comments. He's a great guy and he happens to have a very capable off road rig. The XT6 is the most aggressive off-roader I have ever had. When I compare it to my old wagon it's great off-road. However, the old wagon was much funner to drive on a windy road at high speed, the XT6 cause some un-natural pucker action on fast corners now. Not at all like the car it used to be. But I chose to give up some on-road qualities for off-road ones. There is no perfect car for all needs. For me, it always comes back to cost. I was indeed able to build a quite capable off-road machine for very low money. What I have learned however, is that to make that step to excellent off-roader takes a lot of money no mater what you start with. Lockers, Big Tires, and Gears are expensive no matter what you drive. I love driving the XT6 around, everyone either stares in amazment or gives me a big ol' thumbs up as I pass by. The engine has great power and the low range in the tranny combined with the transfer case gives me pretty good crawling gears. However, the reclined seating position and long nose of the car makes seeing out of it while on tight trails a little difficult when compared to other off road machines. So I go back and forth on whether or not to sell it. I may just bight the bullet and stuff the lockers, gears, and big tires on it just because I think it looks so cool.... I actually parked the XT6 next to a Toyota truck and placed objects in front of them and ran back and forth between the two to compare what I could see from the cockpit of each. I could see objects on the ground closer in the toyota cab than the XT6 by about two feet. So maybe it's not worth worring about. I'm still up in the air about selling it or not. Whooo, that was a lot of hot air...... Later, Mike

I know most people prefer the independent suspension that subarus come with. But, I must say my old wagon could not get over these mounds unless I treated them like jumps!
