Hi! I'm from the "Older Gen" and I have a few Q's for U all. I don't know about the newer cars but on the L ser. our rear stub axles are hollow with a bolt through the center to blot them into the side gers on the dif. I just snaped my 1st one and have been told that the newer cars have rear inner joints with a solid stub that slides INTO the rear dif. I need to know if this is true. And if any one has ever put one of these into a pre '90's R160 dif. Do they fit? Thanks in advance:wave:

I just talked to a local Suby guy and he said somthing about an -O- ring that gos out on the turbo some where that will cause this type of problem. Any one know what he is talking about?
-
Any one out there found a way to get rid of them? I have been told that the newer(legacy?) Roos have a solid one that is part of the iner joint. Any chance that they would replace our iner stubs? I just saw over on the "new gen" board that pre '00 cars had the R160 and post '00 had the R180. Is that true?

Right now I can get on the boost all the way up to 11psi and no smoke, no sounds , nothing. But whaen I was coming off the hill yester day, all the way to my house it was smoking like a b@$terd:eek: Then When I fierd it up 15-20min. later and drove it around town it was fine. And it's not shooting oil every where any more:eh:
-
That's what I thought! But now that it seems to have fixed it's self:temper: I don't want to starve it for oil. But I don't want it to start spuewing agen either:cornfuzz:

New shoes for the RX... again!
soobme replied to Subarutex's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
SWEEEEEEET!!!!! Tex, that RX is PIMP!! :slobber:  I like the look of the rims. I think they are just the right size;) -
While I was up wheelin' yesterday oil started to shoot out all over my down pipe, and I was blowing blue smoke out the exaust REAL bad. We checked the feed & retern lines to the turbo but couldn't find any problems with them. It looked like it was coming from the center section of the turbo it's self on the under side some where. I tryed to crimp the feed line to the turbo but I don't think it worked caus it's still spining fine, with no noise and making good boost. After I got it back into town and drove it around for a while it stoped smoking, and it's not shooting oil any where:eh: It's still making boost, and the turbo is not making any bad sounds. I dont get it! What hapend??? Should I replace/fix the feed line and see what hapens or what. I don't want to drive it any more with the line criped off if the turbo is not shot.

question <could not think of a good subject line>
soobme replied to oddcomp's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
DO NOT use the blue sil. hose from schmucks! I don't know where they get it frrom but it is of VERY low quality. I blew the top turbo line(water) in 2 days when I used that stuff:boohoo: -

I am interested, but it's too soon for me to comit yet. I will keep it on the back burner and let U know as it gets closer -
Yaknow, that's the odd thing, I have not felt ANY diferance @ 50MPH or more:eh: That was one of my conserns too, I make trips to the coast(long twisty HWY) 8 or9 times a year in this car and I didn't want to kill the on-road handeling. I was thinking of just making disconects for it(I had a set on my B II) but with the way it drives I don't think I will bother;)

Need Help Convincin' The Fiance
soobme replied to the_bard's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I know exactly whear U are comin' from! I went through this same battle with my wife when it was time to get rid of my old Bronco II and get somthing diferent(for many reasons). I was told "Dont get some OLD pice of crap Subaru that wil look bad and need to be fixed all the time". What she ment was, "I'm tired of U spending soooo much time on a hobby that I don't share, (wheeling that is) and I think ANYTHING older than a 92 or 93 is a pice of crap". I reminded her that SHE wanted the new to us '95 Suberban that would never break down. And we just had to put a transfer case in it @ $1100:eek: And I could buy A whole spair Subaru for that much money! Well I got the Ru, and she didn't like it for about a week, then all was well agen, and has been ever since. Gals WILL get over it, it's just a mater of how long it will take. And now that she has, she says that swaping the Bronco II for a Subaru is one of the best things I could have done. -

Have not done the one on the bottoum, but the one on the top took me 45min. and a week for all the cuts on my hands to heal up:mad: -
It's a TURBO, no choke;) Check all your vacume lines, on my turbo, if I blow off a vac. line the idle drops to about 700RPM(norm is 850-900). If that is not the problem, U can turn up the idle @ the AFM with the little screw.

Well, I disconected 1 side and drove it arond all day. WOW:eek: It is sooooo much better in all aspects. Less under steer on gravell, smoother ride, tracks better over big bumps/pot-holes, and on my car if I'm puling off a side street into trafic and I let the boost get over 5psi in 1st I get wheel hop soooo bad it feels like it's gona rip somthing out of the front end. Now that the bar is un-hooked I can let it get up to about 8psi befor I have to back out of it:D

Any one driving ther EA82 wagon with no sway bar up front? I'm thinking of pulling mine off to: 1) allow more suspention travel off road 2) take away some of the front end push(under steer) on gravel roads But I don't want it to kill my on-road handeling. Any input, thoughts?:eh:

The little red button makes it SUPER SUBIE!
soobme replied to All_talk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Try the Ancco "Sno*Blades". I have been using them for years now and I love 'em. The only problem I have with them is that @ speeds over 40 they tend to leave streaks. To much wind resistance. A set will usualy last me 6-8 months. -

I'll have a front seat open;) -
I have 2 diferent books that are telling me that the fuel pressure on my '85 turbo is suposto be 61-71psi. And I have a fuel pressure gauge that I just put on that is telling me I have about 25psi @ idle, 30psi @ cruse, and maxes out at 44psi@WOT. What gives???? If I'm intended to have 61-71psi I wouldn't think that the engine would even run @ 25psi:eek: Are the books wrong, or am I WAY low on fuel pressure?
-
If I remember right, U have a turbo x-over pipe on your EA81. If that's right, did U have any trouble with the standard oil pan being in the way?

What is a fair asking price???
soobme replied to MrCid's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hard to say for your aera, but around here if I was in the market for a wagon like that I woud pay up to $2500 if it is in as good shape as U say. Do U have any paper work left from the engine R+R? If so I know that would make me(as a buyer) feel alot better. Hope this helps;) -
