If it's an EA81 W/ stock rack: U have holes in the roof already, and I can make the new rack bolt on in the same place with a better seal than the stock one. If it's an EA82 like mine it will bolt onto the stock mounting rails. I can do it ANY way U want it, but those are the best options. -

It's a rain gutter mounted rack, so it just sits in the gutters, and then clamps onto them. -
OK, time to let the cat out of the bag. I plan on making my oun on-board welder. What I need to know is: Any one know how to turn the voltage regulator (external) on and off? If I can do that, the rest is eazy! I was going to just run a 2nd alt. but I have NO ROOM under the hood for a 2nd alt. on the turbo car:( So I need to switch to an externaly regulated alt. and then wire it up so that I can turn the regulator on and off, and disconect the alt. from the cars electrical sys.

Yeah, I know that Adam NDJ's sounds just like that. They ROCK:headbang: -
COOL! Are those EA81's? If any one has or could take a pic so I know what I'm looking for it would be great!

Thanks, but it's cool! They will bolt together @ each end, and will be VERY strong! Oh, by the way, pick up a wire brush, and a small bottle of asitone if U dont have them allready. Will make the paint stick MUCH better. U will see what I mean when U see the rack up close. -
Yeah, I know what U are talking about. Not to hard @ all:-)

Did Subaru ever have them? I have a plan, but I think it would be eazyer if I caould use a Subaru alt. to do it. And I need one that used an external voltage regulator.:eh:

Turbo & 3.90 5spd D/R Q's
soobme replied to Free Range's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have an '85 turbo that I swaped the DR 5spd into with the 3.90 dif. and I love it!! I don't think I could come up with a better setup for what I use it for. I am runin' 27x8.50-14's and a welded rear dif. I just pull one of the rear shafts when I'm not wheelin' and that takes care of the bad street maners of the welded rear. ( I have little rubber caps that I put on the stubs to keep the splines clean) I think that the welded rear dif. is one of the BEST things I did for off road use. And if the roads get slik I can still use 4WD, it's just 1 wheel in the back pushin' and that still helps out a lot. The rear shafts seem to be strong enough, but it's the stubs out of the rear dif that worrie me. I have yet to break one, but after seeing the "Subarubicon Gold" tape, I know that it's just a matter of time. But that's me, if YOU drive it eazy and don't "pull a Tony!" on big obsticals on the trail, I bet it would survive just fine. WELDED DIFS FOR ALL!! -

Well, it wouldn't be too bad right now caus I got a deal going @ my wifes work ( she gets fed ex for 50% off of what others pay) Junkie's rack only cost $30 to ship 2nd day air from OR to CA. But I have to say that due to size problems with shiping Junkie's, and the fact that UPS people lied to me, all roof racks that are going to be shiped in the future will be modular. That is to say that they will need to be bolted together ( not much to it ) when U get them. The front end and the rear end of the rack will be all welded, and so will the sides, but they will need to be bolted together with the floor x-bars when U get it. -
So to use that plate from the '88 it's just a bolt in?!? That is to eazy! I would love to have my TC back in the car and working! I know what I'm looking for next time @ the yard:banana:

U will LYAO when U see the box! I had to make one out of 3 4'x7 1/2' sheets of corigated cardboard. And a LOT of straping tape:eek: -
Halegens to quad sealed beam?
soobme replied to soobme's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I don't have a grill any more, so I don't have to wory about that. The wireing will be a snap, I'm good with that stuff. The side markers, I'm glad somone said somthing about those, I wouldn't have thought of that. Do the low beam lamps have a "High" and "Low" element in them, or just a "Low"? I'm thinkin' if they have dual elements in the low beam lamps, I can use 4 low beam lamps and just put them on a relay and kick on all 8 elements when I need extra light! -
Has any one done the swap? This would be on my '85 Turbo wagon. I know what parts I would need ( I think any way ) but I was just wondering if they will bolt on in place of the hals.:eh:

LMAO!!!

Uhhhhhh.......sorry to hi-jack but, I really really need one of the little square Hitachi AC compressors that mounts in-board of the Alt. in most mountings. Do either of U guys have one U want to part with? And on the removal, I have pulled all but the compressor its self out of my EA82T, and now it runs 15* cooler than it did before. Geting that big AC rad. out of the way of the water rad. is one of the best things I did to my car.

My input, a turbo D. would kick a$$ in an off road Subaru!! But after MUCH reserch on the mater, the closest DOABLE solution I found was to get the Kenidy adaptor for an EA82 up to a VW bus trans, and then use a Vanigon D. power plant. But all that is, is a rabbit D. engine laying on it's side. That would be hard to fit in the engine bay and still keep the steering sys. where it is. And it's NOT a Subaru power plant! If ANY ONE can come up with some hard facts on the mytical EA81D that is " in use in south Africa" or " a Japan only eangine" I would LOVE to see it. If it exists it CAN be brought to the US one way or another. But alas, I think the lepricons have them all in there hover fork lifts:brolleye:
