Use the pugs! Mine are tuff as nails. If they have them, I would go with somthing like a 185-70R14 or 195-65R14. The pugs are plenty strong, and may even be lighter than the jackmans. Plus the shorter side wall of the 14" tires will help with cornering.

it is possible... to turbo a carb.
soobme replied to JonOfScio's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have been kicking around this very idea for about 4 months now, but I am thinking that the holley 500cfm 2bbl (model 2300) would be the best carb for the job. If I do it, I will just make a pipe that comes off of the turbo intake side strait up to a mounting flange for the carb with a rod coming off the motor somwhere to hold it stedy. With the holley carb it will be EAZY to tune, and I think that 500cfm should be enough. -

Yup, U got it right. But the only exp. I have is with the VW engines, they are very similar to our soobs thoe. GD, U are right about the blower thing. Alot more comon, and eazer to tune too. The blower makes the same boost @ a set RPM no mater what, the turbo is all over the place for boost@RPM. But the blower is a lot harder to find @ a wrecking yard than a turbo. And this idea smackes of cheep and eazy power. If I could get my hands on a small blower for a good price(read CHEEEEEP) I would build a blown EA81 and put it in my EA82 turbo car. -

If U do, let me know how that low CFM carb works. Iv'e heard that it will work, just never seen or tried it my self. -

Right on! Glad to hear it turned out eazy for ya! -
Wow Ken! I'm impressed, same cluch, U are eazyer on it than I am:-p I think it's VERY cool that U did the 'con with stock gears and only 4" lift:cool: Your Brat is my wagons hero:headbang: I think my cluch is about 1/3 gone, and Iv'e only got 5months on it:eek: Between the turbo, and my heavy left foot I'm shocked I haven't snaped a rear stub yet.

TURBO ON!!!!! I have had 1 blow through, and 2 draw through, all VW type 1's The blow through had very low (read BAD) throtle responce, and was a b*#@h to tune! The draw through's wer just fine! A little trickey to set up @ 1st, but once I got them jeted right:brow: Look out world!! The Baja I had the 2nd one in would pull wheelys in 2nd gear:eek: And I did NOT have all the running/driving problems others told me I would have;) -

It's poss. that the TPS got contaminated with the PS fluid, but it sounds more like igntion than anything else. I would check the timing, and make sure that all the plug wires are secure @ each end. Bad timing can give U the high end knock, and mess up your idle reall bad. If U have any vacume leaks any where, or a leak in the air intake hose, it could have sucked in enough of the power steering fluid to foul out a spark plug too. I would pull them all and have a look at 'em. -
EA82T Engine computer problem(up-date)
soobme replied to soobme's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
YES! I have been thinking more and more about it being somthing in the gas tank, it makes the most sence. I am puting on a fule pressure gauge today or tomorow, and then I will know for sure if it is infact fule delivery problem. If so I think it may be time to drop the tank and see how it looks:-\ -

soobme replied to Adam N.D.J.'s topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
I found some new tight twisty trail up on "John's Peak" yesterday. I would have run them all, but I had my boys with me and 2 of them had some big "tip hazards" on them:headbang: I think that there are enough trails up there to last all day! And SOME of them looked to nasty even for me:eek: Alot of these trails are Quad trails,(the reason I drive a small 4x4) so they are tight, and LOTS of fun:D -
EA82T Engine computer problem(up-date)
soobme replied to soobme's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I got a green "T" conector set, a white square, a red square, and a white "T" set. The white and red squares are open ended, the white set IS conected, and the green set I know about. The ONLY black "T" conectors I can find down there are allready conected together, and don't look like they are for the computer @ all:banghead: With the green conector conected all I get is code 12, I still get it with the conector un-hooked. I don't know if I have an odd-ball harnes that makes the memory conector white, or what. I did find some wires right next to the computer that look like they go into it that are CUT OFF AND TAPED TO GETHER! :temper: But I have no idea if they are a problem or not:cornfuzz: I did a serch, and looked in the USRM, and found nothing that coverd this problem(with the conectors) Any one:eh: -

soobme replied to soobme's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thank U all for the input! I will get on geting the computer codes out of it tomorow, and put an external fule pressure gauge out on the cowl ( I don't like to have them in the cocpit.) and go from there. If any one els reads this and it sounds "just like" somthing U had hapen let me know what it was:eh: -

Yes, flap door style, conector sould be good(I just cleaned and re-conected it 1 week ago). If the ECS light gos out will it still store the code in the comp.? I havent studied up on the FI sys. of this car yet. I gess it's time to learn how to get the codes out ect. -
EA82T Engine computer problem(up-date)
soobme replied to soobme's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Seems like it's still firing just fine, just not getin' the fule it needs. It's not runnin' rich(not enough to smoke any way) and the "ECS" comes on when I try to rev through it. It has done this 1 time on the street, VERY breefly. And then it went right back to normal. Most of the time it's doing it, if I drive it eazy it's OK, just hapens when I put a load on the engine, and it needs the fule, it starts cuting out. It's not boost related, it will start before the boost comes on. -
This is getting old! I have a problem with the car cuting out, losing power all together, once in a whille it will just die. BUT ONLY WHEN I WHEEL! Once I get back down to the pavment it starts to clear up, within a mile or 2 it's back to normal:banghead: This happend when I went on the wheelin' trip with Adam&Junkie, and I just got home from wheelin' and it was the same gig! It seems like it might be related to elevation, but I'm not 100% sure on that yet. I can wheel on the beach/sea level and it's fine. Feels like it's a fule delivery problem, but I don't have a gauge so I don't know for sure. The fule filter is new, and once I hit the tarmack on the way home it cleared up within 1mile:cornfuzz:

Am I the only one who has GROSS UNDER STEER in loose gravell? ('85 turbo wagon) Or is it just the slight lift and tires? I would like to try rally some time, but not untill I can figure out how to make the car rotate through the corners:eek: Any input on this is welcome. ( I would like to turn now...)
-
I'd be up for it if it was in Oregon, but Wa. would be a bit of a drive for me. Tarmac would be interesting, maby lower my struts and run some "Lo-Pros" on some re-drilled 15"s:brow: The roof rack comes off eazy enough;) My car has WAY TO MUCH under steer to be any good at rally-X( well, in gravell any way) But that's another post.

YAY! My lift is in! - UPDATE - Installed the Tires today!

Sooooo.......U up for a So.Oregon run in late Nov.? We might even see some snow:banana: -
I have run dualls for YEARS, and I have NEVER used an isolator. I just run the + cable from the 2nd one to the + on the 1st, and then run the - on the 2nd to the engine block. Has yet to ever let me down, and thats with running a WARN 8000lb winch with the engine off for long enough to kick the thermal protector on the winch! If U do use the isolator, I would go with 150-200amp electronic unit. And up-grade all your battery cables to 4ga. welding cable(it's the best stuff I have EVER found for batt. cables!)

Are U @ 10psi of boost by 3000RPM? If so I would say it's the fuel cut off sys. Is it only when U get on it hard that this hapens, or even when U are drivin' it eazy? I know I can get mine up to 11-12psi by 3000RPM EAZY! Welcom to the board, TURBOS ROCK:headbang: -
SuperModified Brat in Petersons 4Wheel Drive Mag.

That "Brat" looks to be siting on a new frame, and defenitley has a strait axle w/ leaf springs in the front. I'm geusing that it's got a D60 in front, and a D70 out back. Prolly a SB Chevy under the cut up hood. Looks FASSSSST! -
