  1. I get around 150-170 on mine. I drive mostly highway and get between 28-31 mpg per tank.
  2. 136k your car is just a baby. Also get yourself a copy of how to keep your subaru alive forever, great book and you will be able to do all work on the subie yourself.
  3. Well it looks like state farm wants to total my 96 OWB after a 3 mph bumper hit. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32898 So now the question is how safe is it to replace airbags? I know I can get the bags and sensor for relatively cheap and this is the only thing wrong with the car. I want to make sure the car will be safe and not have the bags pop while driving or not pop when they need to. Thanks
  4. I agree with Josh on this one, more of a pain than you will want to deal with. I went down this road with one of my GL-10s a few years back, ended up just putting in standard struts and srpings. I agree about Strictly Automotive, they are a great shop, so is S-wings and Roo's only. It is nice that we have a lot of great independent shops in CO.
  5. And I can tell you of several of 5 of my friends who have 2.5 with over 150k with no issues. I tend to take a statistical approach to this. Subaru’s are all over the place here in Colorado. This is the number one state for Subaru’s. I have talked to lots of private Subaru specialty shops here and they will tell you that it is a very low percentage of 2.5 that have HG issues. There is more than there should be but it is not the epidemic it is made out to be on this forum. Also these issues can be traced back to improper coolant maint. and bleeding procedures. Subaru has redesigned it after years of data to make it better, but it is not the issue that Toyota had with 100% of the v6 3.0 motors of the 90s. Would you want them to sit back and not do anything? I am not saying that there are not 2.5 HG issues, but considering that this is the only small issue with the cars, I will take a small HG repair on a car that is otherwise 100% solid over most if not all other offerings available today. Mitsubishi has one AWD Sedan EVO and that is on line with the STI but not a car for most as a daily driver. Ford, Chrysler/Dodge, or a minivan from Saturn – Subaru has no competition from these today and most Subaru or Japan car buyers would not buy them even if they had an offering because it would be in line with their other models and be POS like they have now. These manufactures cars are sub quality and you get what you pay for. Yes Toyota and Honda might come up with something but that is in the future, and the new legacy smoked both of them for the Japan car of the year this year. I would take a new Legacy over any offering currently from Toyota or Honda. But if Honda brings their new estate (wagon) accord over with their new AWD system, that would be interesting.
  6. Tons of options? Audi/VW/Volvo???? If you go this route you better have deep pockets or a relative that is a mechanic. Now if Honda makes a AWD Wagon then there could be issues. But the only other one is the Toyota Matrix and this econo box is not even close to anything subaru, they are terrible. 2.5 issues are overrated here on this board, not as bad as you are lead to believe here.
  7. I was taking about Legacy Outbacks, I have never seen one without pwr locks. I am not familiar with imprezas.
  8. I have never seen an outback without pwr locks and windows?? You can get a universal kit or get parts from the bone yard.
  9. BTW are the bags the only thing I will need to repalce? Are they sensors in the bumper that need replaced also? I also heard the entire dash needs to be replaced? Anyone know if this is true? Thanks
  10. GREAT. Let me see what insurance/subaru is going to do. I will let you know for sure.
  11. WOW! Thanks for the heads up, rather pay a small monthly increase for insurance then huge lawsuit in the future!!
  12. Well found out a few things on this. 1st only seat belts are covered for 10 years not srs systems. Subaru has said call your insurance company, not our issue after 3 years. This situation blows!
  13. 2nd owner No carfax or other reported accident. No Airbag warning lights.
  14. That is what I was thinking, I called subaru and they told me to involve my insurance company but I want to keep them out of it. I guess I will need to get lawyer.
  15. So on my way to the airport this afternoon, I have a 3 mile per hour collision with another car. I stopped at a stop sign she went then stopped I was looking left at hit the back of her car. There was no damage to either car but both of my airbags deployed, destroyed my windshield and took off my rear view mirror. The police came and said they had never seen this before, they did not issue me a ticket since there was no damage their was not an accident in the eyes of the law. They said air bags should not deploy at speeds under 20mph. The told me I need to contact Subaru. Anybody ever have this happen? Any idea who I should talk to? I would like to keep my insurance company out of this since they will probably jack my rates. Thanks
  16. I would say they have, the new 05 Legacy is an incredible machine. This is every bit as revolutionary as the original legacy. It is the first car in a long time in Japan to win the car of the year over Honda or Toyota.
  17. What? I hate to break this to you but motors from both of these manufactures are every bit as reliable as a Subaru. Why not go buy a fwd Honda or Toyota that will go 300k but gets 35+ mpg rather than 25 for a fwd Subaru? I say wait for a AWD Subaru and you will be very happy!!
  18. This point has been brought up lots and you get about 1-2 mpg more with FWD Subaru compared to an AWD Subaru, this is not some big gain by going away from awd. Gas mileage on Subaru’s has more to do with weight, gearing, wind resistance, etc. If you are going to go with fwd only their are lots of other cars that will get better gas mileage than a fwd Subaru so why even bother? My wife’s Honda with fwd and dedicated snow tires actually does better than my AWD Subaru with All season tires. Now when I throw my snows, it is all over!!
  19. I would not, wait for one with AWD. This is kind of like an 2wd SUV, I think they are a total waste. IMO
  20. STI for Legacy line? Where did you hear this? Could there be STI Outback Wagon!
