  1. So my father in law is about ready to dump his 01 outback because of the following issues: HG issues replaced under warranty by Subaru but still needed replacement at 60k. Paint clear coat cracked, repainted by Dealership under warranty 65k. Steering Rack Failure at 70k Now he has symptoms of Torque Bind at 75k Are all these issues normal? I have not owned any roos newer than 96 OWB (2.2) and my current 91 LS wagon has 175 on it with no issues ever. I talking him into this car from Toyota since he wanted a wagon and I told him how my 15 other roos have been perfect cars. He is contemplating getting ride of this before it “nickels and dimes him to death”.
  2. You are welcome, my jb weld jerry rig held for years until the car was totalled.
  3. I do nothing or less than 10% city. All my driving is to/from moutains & around moutains in Colorado. I really am looking for more power but don't want to deal with the 2.5 HG/ pia spark plugs/ for a their nominal power increase. And I have to have a sunroof, hated not having one in my 96 OBW.
  4. Good point there  I was just looking for some real world figure, I get 30-32 range now with my na 2.2 5spd LS wagon & just wanted to make sure I would not be going down too much. Thanks!
  5. I have been toying with the idea of dropping a turbo in my LS wagon for a while and I came across a very nice touring wagon. What kind of highway mileage can I expect with the 2.2t & auto? How durable are the Auto tyranny’s and are these better than the regular autos?
  6. I got some springs/struts from an outback (thanks Larry!) and I am getting ready to install them on my 91 Legacy. I also got a set of outback wheels. I am curious about my height options. If I use the springs & struts from the outback how much lift will I gain? Can I still use the sway bars and such? What about if I just use the struts and swap my current springs onto them? With both options what would be the largest tire I could run? Thanks!
  7. Yea mine work also, I wonder if they would repalce becuase of age or fraying?
  8. I did not mention this but I always do them also while I have the front end tore apart. They will sell me the kit without the belt so I will use OEM belt, oil pump & crank seal, water pump, & thermostat.
  9. What do you think about this kit? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230160092442&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:us
  10. Great idea about just swapping the bearings and regreasing. Thanks !
  11. Thanks I agree, I never do anything with timing belts other than OEM. I will read up about woodruff key, what is this about? -R
  12. Well Jeep stand for Just empty every pocket you know! I have owned a couple Jeeps and their are some good groups also but their are some bad ones too.
  13. I am getting ready to do my timing on my 91 LS with 171k on the ticker. I plan on keeping this car for a while and want to do this right. Should I swap the idler pulleys? What about the gears? I have never done these before on cars but this is the highest mileage roo I have done this one. What about cam seals? I have been of the camp if they aren't leaking leave them alone.
  14. Where can you get these? I have been checking ebay in such but have not been able to find a source for the belts. -R
  15. Tell us what subaru does. I know a few years back we had a recal on our 14 year old honda. They put in brand new seat belts for us. -R
  16. I am looking at a very nice 01 outback wagon with 75k, it has a had a HG recall fixed by the dealership, and this is a relative so I can get a great deal. 1st ? How hard to add heated seats and mirrors? Is the wiring there and just a matter of swapping out seats/mirrors and controls? 2nd ?The car is an automatic and this has me very nervous. How reliable are these? How much if one blows up? How much different will it drive compared to my 91 LS 5 spd? I have never owned an auto Subaru before, and I know the awd is electronic 90/10 rather than good old 50/50. But in 90% driving will I even notice the difference? Any other areas of concern to look at or be aware of?
  17. This is the same thing Nissan did a few years back. They made the Maxima & Pathfinder boring, dropped the 300z and lost all their sales. Then they got back to their "quirky" cars with Xterra, 350z etc. Hopefully Subaru will pull its head out.
  18. I agree, I have been running the NS for many years in many different roos and it has always been the best. I have also used MT-90 in my older GLs where the tranny & diff have serperate fluids and it works great in them also. -R
