ea82 decisions decisions
What, you don't enjoy the feel of your urabuS? After two loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong months of driving my parents rigs, I was soooooooooooooo appreciative to have my brat underneath me again. I hope you feel the same way. Oh and what obsession? Just because the universe revolves around Subaru doesn't mean I'm obsessed. It just means that those in my life are jealous of my car. And the fact I'm extremely hostile towards other wannabe subes, doesn't mean I'm crazy, the fact that I see thing that aren't there makes me crazy. Twitch. :-p PS: MWAHAHAHAHAAAAA... 86 Brat Advice
Look for a wagon or hatch in that price range. You'll get something decent. Brat's are the high end stuff. For a brat that's in need of some mechanical repair and few rust spots, you're lucky to find one under 2k. And you my friend, are lucky. If you want a collectors rig, the brat is one to purchase. Run around rig, get a wagon, sedan or hatch. Just as much fun, but cheaper on the insurance and a bit more sensible. A hatch is the most like the brat in size and driving experience. Twitch

why do they make timing belts so hard to install?
Sorry, I'm a more expensive smart@$$ I hope I'm not out of your price range. Twitch :-p

why do they make timing belts so hard to install?
When I did my 2.2 the timing belt was cake. I didn't have to remove the tensioner pulley to get it in or out. I did for ease of access, but it wasn't neccesary. Just my 2 bucks. Twitch

Quick EJ22/25 oil pan question...

Best Fuel Pump for 79' Brat
Yes, its the stock hitachi. And no, nobody put a fuel pump somewhere else, I just connected the hose back together because I didn't know there was supposed to be a fuel pump in that particular location. My dad applied compressed air to the tank and that made it run, so that means no leaks in the system, and no fuel sprayed out underneath, so the gaskets must be good. Thanks for the help, I'm going to pick up the one in the pictures today, unless you guys think that would be detrimental. Twitch

Best Fuel Pump for 79' Brat
I've been looking for a fuel pump for my 79' Brat. Do any of you have any suggestion for brands or models? I've found this one at CSK, now (or soon to be) Oreilly's http://shop.oreillyauto.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=CTR&MfrPartNumber=P60504&PartType=52&PTSet=A Heres what it looks like for those who don't want to hit the link It's about $56 bucks and I can have it shipped to the nearest store for free. Would you guys say a Subaru OEM would be better? And also, is this where the original was located? Thanks for the help! Twitch

Weird Issue
Did the voltage problem go away? Twitch
-
HI all
Sounds like a subaru Yeah, I'm in agreement with Loyale 2.7 turbo The inner cv axle bearings may be the problem. And on that shop, just because they've been around a long time doesn't mean that they are the best shop to go to. We have a shop that's been around almost 25 years and they misdiagnosed my problems twice. Both time they said it was detrimental damage and it just turned out to be a bad fuel injector and the other is unknown, for now. :frustrated: Twitch

Weird Issue
Well, as stated before, did you notice any difference in voltage after the fusible link change? If it fixes it, then there you go! If not check your voltage regulator, as stated before. If your voltage regulator is shot, then you'll have to replace it. I'm not sure, but I think that's onboard the alternator, and if it is it'll probably be easier (and cheaper ) to replace the alternator. Twitch

brat won't run at WOT.
I believe that you lost an EGR valve. Mine did about the same on the driver's side. Just unplug the hose that was blowing the crap in there. It should do just fine without it. As for the carb, I would just recommend cleaning it out while the engine is cold and off. Hope it helps! Twitch
-
What to do alongwith the head gasket
Valve cover gaskets. Rebuild the heads, check for warpage. Have the head pressure tested, water and air. Clean that sucker like you've never cleaned before. That's all I can think of right now, I'm sure I'll remember something else I had to do on my EJ22 that you may have to do. Twitch

Don't trust the internet!
My parents have learned that lesson the hard way, "We won't sell your name..." Bull. That's why they get 300+ spam a day. And I have almost killed several things using internet advice. (Computer, car, cat...) Sometimes makes me wanna somebody. Twitch Holy crap! I just realized they all start with C!

Just got a 79 brat, have a few questions.
Cool, well if you have trim for a 2nd gen brat I'd be extremely willing to help. The only issue is I live N ID!!! Hey good luck with it! You may be able to get help from Zap or Edrach. Ed's currently fighting insurance but he may have some spare time. Hope you can get it going! Twitch Ps: And if you don't have the wire connecting to the fuel pump, you may need to get the proper one there. Captain Obvious strikes again!

Already Made Them Mad
Heh, you took the words right out of my mouth. But you forgot one thing with the ford, it now has Microsoft crap in it. Oh, and those aerostars, I wouldn't call those minivans just because some of them actually had a real 4x4 system in them. A friend of mine has a lift kit and a custom bumper on his. I'll post a pic asap. And I think that all manufacturers have their own version of crap. Chrystler has, well, everything. Chevy's cars are their version other than the Vette and new Camaro. Ford has overall crap and now has extra crap added. Toyota has started a downhill slide into it with their 4x4 systems (read consumer reports if you disagree) Nissan has their small cars as their version of crap, and their titan truck, Honda, well, good cars but I always think of them as plastic toys, cuz the interiors, (YUK!!!) Mazda is Ford, nuff said. Subaru, I believe has hit a new low with their framed windows, (bleah!) and the non-subaru look with their new models. >p I want my old suby look back! Sorry, rant over. Knock Knock!
Your pic http://http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=6081&d=1232587402 It looks like an EA71 to me. From the looks of the disty and your radiator, it looks just like my 79' Brat. Not to mention that engine looks by far smaller than the EA81 in my 85' Brat. And your oil stabilizer, was that "lucas?" not locus? That should help, but if you put too thick of oil in it the oil won't flow enough to lube the entire engine at high RPM's. The stabilizer I believe will make the oil stickier, more capable of lubricating the engine and gears. Hope it helps, Twitch
