New Group!
Ok, sorry for not getting the address earlier, but here it is: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/group.php?groupid=3 And first matters first, we need to come up with a better name, I just used "North Westerns" for a starting name. Once we get a fair amount of people, say 20? we need to come up with a name that is acceptable to all. OK? Twitch

just thinking out loud???/
Heh heh heh, It seems, my good sir, that you are a subaru owner. You have one and you're buying two more just for fun And yeah, I would definitely go with the one with the best body and the other with the best engine. Have fun with your new project(s) Twitch

Is gapping spark plugs important?
Wow, Subaru Fight!!! Well, since everybody else has thrown out their opinion, I will as well. I personally use Bosch Platinum +2's. They run me about $5 a plug at CSK autoparts, now Oreiley's. I use them because I don't like buying plugs that have to be gapped. Not to mention they burn nice and hot and seem to take abuse well. I have them in both my brat and my legacy and I have never had an issue with them. Just my two bites. Twitch

1985 Subaru Brat Suspension Upgrade
Well, this site called "Street Beat Customs" says they got a shock setup with compressor for 1k. OUCH!!! And that doesn't include the controller nor the wiring. It may even only be for 2 shocks as well. Or JC Whitney has some adjustable gas shocks that can have a wireless controller added. Unfortunately they don't add any lift. :-\ Options, options. Twitch

Older Generation Becoming Historic?
Ya know, senior Loyale, you have a good point. I think that the new Imp, Tribeca and Forester should fall under the SOT. (Subaru of Tomorrow) The Imp has the framed windows and they all have a more common(?) look to them. Yes there is the matter of the same engine class and design, but they are available with the diesel in other countries. Just my two bites. Twitch

Problem with 84 Brat
Sorry, must've gotten some lines mixed up coming from the brake booster. And I was referring to when there is a leak in the vacuum system. On a normally operating car, you're right, it'll lower slightly and then recover. Thanks for the clarification, Twitch I apologize if I stepped on your toes skip.

Problem with 84 Brat
I had the same problem when I lost my center wingnut. Check to make sure you have all of your wingnuts sealed down or have an O ring underneath the bolts holding your air cleaner lid on. As well +1 to ed and +1 to skip for reiterating it. Make sure all of your vacuum tubes are connected and all of your auxiliary tubes that aren't in use, are plugged. Breaks in tubes are not unheard of, so I would try to trace your vacuum lines throughout the engine cavity. And also the brakes reduce vacuum. That's why your car stalls when you stop, the brake booster reduces vacuum in the air cleaner, which then decreases the amount of air flowing through your carb, therefore pulling less fuel and stalling out your engine. Got that? Hope it helps, Twitch

BRAT is down, Fixed it.......
Man, that's no good. Hope you didn't overheat. And do you get off work really, really late? Or go to work really, really early? Or maybe just up late? Sorry, off topic, but I'm not used to seeing people over the age of 30 post at 1 in the morning. Twitch.

need part help please
Twitch de la Brat replied to rob777's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf you go to your local junkyard they may be able order the tail light. Napa, Shucks/Checkers/Kragen/O'Reileys/Murrays, Autozone, Advance Auto may have access to those parts, but a body shop or junkyard will probably have access to more options. Twitch

1985 Subaru Brat Suspension Upgrade
Hmmph. Well, I knew wasn't going to be easy, but sheesh. Thanks for the references, but their site seems to be having some issues. I have done some searching via yahoo/google/dogpile to find air shocks and the only thing I can come up with are these truck air shocks that are designed for helping handle large loads. Does anybody know if these could work? Cuz some have on the fly pressure adjustment, and that's exactly what I want. The only problem I can see right now is the fact that there are absolutely no models listed for subaru. Does anybody know of any yota's or nissan's that might work? Heck I just need something that matches my strut mount and will hold my alignment. If anyone has measurements and maybe patterns that I could look at, that'd be great, if not I'm a gonna just go to different shops to look at them one, by stinking one. :-\ Thanks again, Twitch.

Which Subaru do you recommend?
Twitch de la Brat replied to jmj951's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI would recommend you get a little toyota pickup or a nice 85-89 gl wagon with dual range. And for either put brand spanking new air filters, fuel filters, oil filters, oil, rebuild the engine, new seals, new heads, new door seals, new cabin air filter, new tires, basically, anything that isn't perfect, replace with new if its vital to the engine or the cabin sealing up. That's my recommendation and please, don't write me off just because I'm 18. Hope it helps, Twitch

1985 Subaru Brat Suspension Upgrade
I hope I'm not posting in the wrong section, but I'm looking for some suggestions for some pneumatic, aka air, shocks. I want some rally (I mean rally, not really) tough semi-long travel shocks that can have on the fly adjustment. And that also give me approx 2" in lift over stock. Do any of you racing guys have any brands or suggestions that might help? Oh, and I'm not too good at welding but if I need to make some brackets to adapt the struts to the current mounts, I can. Thanks for any info, Twitch

New Legacy concept
Twitch de la Brat replied to Psyko's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe only "Subaru" I see on this car is the front grill. Other than that, nada. And I agree with a lot of you, its over styled. If they gave it, say the 06-07 impreza front end, the 87 gl wagon body style , a beastly hood scoop and the spoiler off of the 08 STi, to make it look "mean." Whatcha think? Any photoshoppers out there who would attempt my idea?

Radius Rods Don't Like Curbs!
Hey, and I thought I was the only one to do that my car :-p Yeah, I'm kinda glad I didn't do quite as much damage as psyko did. Did it take much tweaking to get the "new" one to go in? I've only gotten mine disassembled. Putting it back together is going to be the fun part. I'll keep ya'll updated and maybe after its all said and done I'll make an entry into the USRM! Twitch

Radius Rods Don't Like Curbs!
I was making a corner on a street in Spokane Washington and I hit a patch of ice making a corner. I was going like 10-15 mph at the time and to correct the slide towards the corner I cranked the wheel as far as I could away from the curb and eased on the throttle. TOO LITTLE TOO LATE. I tagged the curb with my wheel and jammed my wheel into my fender. I was able to make the thing crawl into a Krispy Kreme parking lot, about 30 feet away and that's where it stopped. :-\ So I sat down and ate a donut and had some cocoa.

Radius Rods Don't Like Curbs!
This is what happens when you curb your car. Before: After: Yeah, I did that right after being rearended the night before. Pissed me off so much. Anyway, just wanted to share the carnage. The Bushing:

Big tranny problems
DOH! I was shutting off the engine before checking it. That would explain the erratic fluid levels, but what about the fact that it won't go! Sorry, still a little sore about having to drive my dad's pos chevy corsica. The thing rattles worse than my brat, and has a leaking head gasket and to top it all off, its an auto. It doesn't get much worse than that car. And thank you so very much everyone! And thank you caboobaru for the reminder to keep the car running. Twitch

Egr and Pc(v) valve location/function
Ok, I had the location of the valve that went bad wrong. I got confused and looked at the wrong hose. Here's the pic's of the right valve. Or the right canister, and then also where they connect to the intake manifold box. Hope this gives a better idea about what I'm trying to figure out. Twitch P.S. Shameless question but, does anybody have any leading rods or stabilizer bars I could buy? My brat is still out of commission until I can get those fixed as well. I'll post in the wtb section too. Sorry about the having to click a link to see my pics, flickr doesn't like to play nicely with the picture link

Big tranny problems
OK, I've heard that sometimes the tranny fluid will plug up in between the radiator and the tranny. I've also heard that the solution to this is to put a fuel filter on somewhere on the input line to the tranny cooler. Could this be what is afflicting me? Cuz my car sat for about 6 months while I weekended my engine apart and back together, and it may very well have let some sediment settle in the tranny. On the same note, would the fuel filter idea work? If not permanently, just to get the silt and sediment out? Thanks again for the help, Twitch
