  1. I thought about going that way with a rebuild. So, I got the kit and then I thougth....ya know its prolly easier to just get another pump from the salvage yard and slap it in, which i did and it was like 50 bucks. Put it in last weekend. Plus those pumps on the inside are really interesting. You need to have your stuff clean and lined out for a rebuild. Just my 2cents worth.
  2. If your running the engine, sans ps pump and it's dry (lacking fluid)....it will make hella noise, until you bleed it and fill it to proper levels with fluid. Just changed mine out last weekend.
  3. wow, my first 4x4 was a gen1 runner....now I'll just kick myself again tha i got rid of it...:-\ everytime I see one still running with the straight front axle...
  4. pfft....i think i could handle it ....
  5. Lets see if we can 't test those HG's on the route to 100acre woods rally ! !
  6. yes, at least on my 2.2 its buried under the intake. A bit of a challenge to get to.
  7. So, once again i ask for advice. Are there any "special" tools required to do any of this work, Including the oil pump and cam seals?
  8. yea i'm gonna get a kit off ebay tonight. it probably won't get here b4 this weekend so i guess i'll have to do it next weekend. I have 3 day weekends now that my pays been cut 20% so i should have the time. Well the wp seal is leakin a bit so i need to get it done soon.
  9. I've had no problems with AM thermostats. Yes you have to replace them periodically but thats a standard thing. And they only cost 6 bucks.
  10. Ok i'm getting ready to tackle this job for the first time on my 2.2. I plan to follow the chiltons manual instructions. Are there any shortcuts or things that i should know of to avoid making bigger problems or anything i.e. tools that I definately need to do the job? I'm also gonna replace the water pump. And re-build the power steering pump. Anywords of advice would be most appreciated.
  11. All I know is that my Subaru's have all started for the last 15yrs. Everyday. With the basic minor maintenance and minor cost the thing has paid for itself over and over....and it has 250,000 miles on it...how many dodge caravans can say that? ( of course there could be 10x the amount of caravans made vs my impreza)
  12. Thats great if you drive a boat! Yea of course reliability is key...but pushing the envelope is more fun!
  13. Yea I have a CEL on because of my TPS sensor I believe is bad. Just hate seeing that bright orange light beaming at me all the time...
  14. 200hp/cylinder....sick...I need to go to the bathroom.
  15. Update: I got the hoses changed and whilst doing it went ahead and cleaned areas of grim around the bottom of the engine front and driver side valve covers, inspecting to see where my oil leaks are coming from...I notice a green drip mark right below the WP seal..... I cleaned it off and go drive for awhile and re-inspect...I see another little drip mark, same spot. I believe its the water pump seal leaking. So hopefully its just the water pump needing replaced. Ane while I'm in there I'll do the timing belt also. CobCob you still around??? Wanna have some more wrench turning fun? I haven't forgot about oweing you exhaust gaskets. I kinda wanna wait until its warmer though...brrrrr.
  16. Not that this is the reason but . My at 2.2 tranny is freakin HEAVY! holy crap:eek: and I have a 350 tranny thats half its weight...I presume its just having the additional diff on the front plus the TC...Just concurring that the AT trannys are tanks!
  17. Yea Ken Block...AGAIN.... I want his job soooo bad.Get to see him and Pastrana in a month here in MO at 100acres wood rally:banana:
  18. Yea i got a new cap and i'm gonna replace the hose's tomorrow. seeing as I don't have to work:banana:! Hopefully this will solve my problem...if not...sheesh I'll be searching for help with replacing the HG's. I'm also gonna rebuild the ps pump and hopefully stop it from crappin all over my engine.
  19. will do the cap, i'm gonna go ahead and change the hose's also. I do plan on keeping the car....its just been SOOOOO reliable i can't give it up. Now that i think about it, i remember a little coolant on the bottom hose..... I was thinking it was from the overflow tank spraying out when driving but, maybe there's a little leak in that hose. So, anyone have a working throttle position sensor also??? the computer is calling it out. and that 3 different sized plastic T for the pcv valve??? anyone?
  20. Oh, theres no coolant in the oil or vice versa? so, wouldn't that show up if a hg is gone? I dunno. It still drives good, has power and everything...just weird... of course it does have 250xxx miles on it...lol. any help on all three issues would be most apprecitated. Ok, after searching the forum. I'll do the check for bubbles in the overflow tank after a good warm up by idleing it up to around 2500 rpm. Also i'll get a new radiator cap.
  21. Ok, so the overflow tank is filling up on my 1995 Impreza. I've had no overheating problems. The guage is always on normal. The car does warm up pretty quick. I thought well the thermostat is stuck and therefore radiator is overheating and filling up the overflow tank? So, I put in a new thermostat filled the radiator there was fluid in the top hose as well as bottom, so i presume its flowing through the engine? I fill the overflow tank to appropriate level and drive. I have good heat in the car, temp guage is normal. After a week the overflow tank is full?? What is happening? Too much fluid? When I check the radiator I cannot see any fluid??? Is the radiator clogged?? I don't think so because when I filled it the lower hose had fluid in it. I could hear it gurgle down the coolant? Water pump isn't making any sounds, there isn't any leaking anywhere?? Is the temp sensor bad??? god I hate to replace that its such a bugger to get to. In addition, anyone have a throttle position sensor for a 2.2 engine? and I'm looking for a T-connector from the air intake and block to the pcv valve?? Cannot find one anywhere??
  22. There arn't specifics on the CarFax report. I don't know either if it was rearended or it rearended someone. I don't think it was to severe as there is no odd rust under the front or back. I also didn't see any misaligned panels or components. I'm assuming it was a backup and bump into another vehicle situation, hopefully the bumper took most of the impact. Yea the oil changes have been kept up, at some service station according to the sticker in the upper left of windshield. Oil looked clean and smelled clean also. I'll let it sit for awhile longer and see if i can get him to come down from 3500 with the carfax info. yea I can prolly look at doing the tb and wp on both vehicles....especially on my 95 impreza... it could definately use a tb and prolly water pump.
  23. Yes, you can include valve gaskets, front main, Oil filter loose?, Oil input tube seal....any other place's? Mine lose's/burns oil also...Its hard to see where cuz of the mess...I dunno it keeps on driving and I keep on checking the oil every other day. 248,xxx miles ...if your looking to get rid of it let me know, I need parts:grin:.
  24. Ran the car fax and it's had 5 owners, 2 rear impact with another vehicle. Regular service up to 103,000. Is been in Alabama, Minnesota, California, and now Missouri....:-\ Well not terrible news, still maybe some leverage. I think I'll take your advice and see where it gets me. I'd still like to have the wagon though...its a nice ride.
