  1. Yea he's pretty stuck on 3500. I guess i wrote the vin down wrong I only have 16 caracters? need 17...bah! Then I'll get a carfax. Here are some pics though. he didn't have any info on any service being done at the 120xxx mark....bah. Also wasn't sure it was a single owner....bah! Its a real nice 96. They cleaned it well. All the cv boots looked good. The standard oil leak in rear of engine. rear valve gaskets, rear seal maybe? A new pass side ball joint, newer front struts maybe?...The screw in mounts looked brand new? Anyway hopefully the stars will align and I get my #3 Subaru and the 2nd to add to the stable. This will be my dd and the Impreza will be the rally-fun car. Oh and it doesnt' smell like cat piss on the inside! Like the forester next to it does.
  2. Yea, the dealer said it was a single owner. And that they had just replaced the clutch. When I drove it it seem tight so that sounds to be true. I noticed some slack on the cable inside the engin compartment...may need a little tightening done. I'm gonna go take some pics and talk to him more about the 120xxx service and see if he has any records at all. I'll post back soon. I'll try and shoot 3200 at him but i'm pretty sure he's firm on 3500....we'll see
  3. Ok so I found a 1996 outback for sale. Little dealer wants 4500....to much, I talked him down to 3500.... It has 147xxx miles on it and its clean with a clean ej22 5-speed man. Everything works except for interior dash lights which the dealer said he would "fix" before he sold it. Well I've always wanted an Outback and this seems like the one to get. Anything I should be aware of before I make the leap into my second subaru?
  4. Great info! But I was getting a clunk sound every time I went in reverse and turned. I attributed it to a cv joint but was wrong. Yea I heard one could repair it pretty easily, but the cost was around the same as just getting a tranny. I got the (used)tranny (150xxx miles) plus install for around 750 bucks. Which I think was a good deal. Back to driving the car with only FWD. I did this for months in my Impreza. The only thing I was worried about was all the power going to the front wheels and damaging the front diff. somehow. It also sucked just having fwd...I felt inferior....:-\ lol. But it did still run just fine. I was also worried about any loose parts flyin around in the tranny. So, If you do drive it, just take it easy on her.
  5. I haven't heard anything about them pulling out of Rally America? I hope not! I plan to see a #43 Monster car dominate again at 100acres wood rally here in MO this Febuary. There will also be a blue #200 Subaru there hopefully. Model off of NASCAR and their "fair" system to save smaller teams money and make it "more competitive" pffffft.....yea right LOL...not like someone hasn't dominated that arena either...can anyone say Jimmie Johnson?
  6. ehhhh, I just got this problem fixed in my 95 Impreza...It was an internal component in the tranny which = tranny replacement. I guess I neglected the "torque bind" which eventually sheared the rear drive shaft internally in the rear of the tranny. More info below in previous posts. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=92194 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=92341 Good luck, I hope you get it fix'ed.
  7. My car has had the exact same symtoms. Only I have not had the windshield replaced. What I found it to be was the plastic molding seal on the air intake at the bottom of the windshield, on the passenger side, had separated from the window due to exposure and time. The rain runs down the window and then into this crack which leads to some wheres in the firwall and I assume puddles in the heater core area. When the car moved, i.e. going in reverse and stopping, the water would run out onto the passenger side floor. I've used electical tape to seal it. I have to replace it about once a year (looks like it needs to be replaced again). See pics.
  8. I gave cobcob a set of those exact wheels....for free....well for helping me with some wrench turning.
  9. Is this what your looking for? I think the price may be off, just to good of a deal. http://springfield.craigslist.org/cto/925355253.html
  10. This worked. Got 'R done tonight in about 20min. Thanks all.:brow:
  11. So, would this still work if the steering wheel was off 180deg, bheinen?
  12. Speaking of steering column u-joints. Is there an easy way to disconnect this joint and to straighten a steering wheel? Or is there an easier way? Just got done putting the rack in and the wheel is off about 90deg. The sears tire shop here in town were to scared to try and straiten it:confused: Any and all help would be most appreciated.
  13. Sure thing! Need a co-pilot????? I would love to enter and try to do some tree bashing! lol
  14. EDIT....Never mind I got the thing hooked up. Whew cobcob what an experience..lol, I now know why your mates called you cob! LOL j/k...thanks for your help.
  15. Yea I got to see him in person at the 100 acre woods rally in my backyard. heres some pics. and short vid. http://s495.photobucket.com/albums/rr320/Tillermoe/?action=view&current=Pastrana.flv http://s495.photobucket.com/albums/rr320/Tillermoe/?action=view&current=KenBlock.flv
  16. Ok, I found this tranny out of a 1996 Legacy wagon 2.2L. Does anyone know if it will work for my 1995 Impreza 2.2L ? I hope it will cuz its close and cheap and fairly low miles? http://http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Automatic-Transmission-1996-Subaru-Legacy-L-Wagon-2-2_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c39Q3a1Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem110291821010QQitemZ110291821010 Please tell me some good news.
  17. All right sounds like a plan. I located a tranny in lebanon for around 450.00. There was a couple of sites that I found one on that was cheaper but I lost the site. Someone listed it here but I failed to remember the site. it wasn't carparts.com it was another one....any help would be great.
  18. Thanks cocob and kingcrab. I believe john is correct though. My 2.2LX needs a 2.2 trans. I don't want to change rear diff. if I don't have to. I have the steering rack cleaned and waiting to go in. Once I get a tranny lined out we can set a date to meet and turn some wrench's!
  19. Will do, what color is it?
  20. All right thanks for all the help. I guess I'm looking for a good used tranny for a 2.2 AWD automatic. I suspect I should search these forums first eh? I dunno of any place around that would have a used tranny. Which models can I switch it out with?? or will any 2.2 auto tranny awd work? Oh yea it does shutter under acceleration and then stops after about 30mph. Could that be the tranny also? I also am in need of a steering rack.
  21. Ok cool, now who can I find to help me get this replace. The dealer here in Spfd said it would cost around 2400.00???? Is this reasonable? I think they just want replace the whole tranny?? What is neglecting a torque bind? was that the poping sound?
  22. Wow Crab was right, this is the ultimate subaru site. Ok sorry about leaving out the details. Here we go. To answer grossgary's questions. how many miles? Miles= 242xxx what vehicle are we talking about? 1995 2.2 Impreza LX sedan AWD manual or automatic would REALLY help. Automatic what exactly happened? for a couple of weeks when I would put it in reverse I would back for about 20 yds and turn and would hear a *POP sound. I thought it was a cv joint but. just last week I went to accelerate I noticed that my front wheels where spinning out.....first time for that so I took it into the dealer and they said the tranny was done????? did the AWD ever work? Yes how did it go out? See above any recent work done? Had the rear seal put in the tranny about 3 mths ago. It's not the AWD disable fuse either. They checked that at the dealer. Yes, I make sure when I put tires on my cars they are all the same, brand ,size, tread. So, I want to keep the sub for awhile and maybe get an 2.2 outback in addition if there are any left.
  23. I still have front wheel drive and it drives fine. Even has more power. So does anyone have a transaxle or know how much one is? And should I even attempt to find a suby friend to help me in replacing it. Or should I buy a new one?
