Welcome aboard, dieselpawn. You might get more response and discussion of your question if you post it in one of the more technical forums, like "New Gen." Good luck.

Yet another overheating question (this is a long one)
Olnick replied to Arty's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt can be frustrating at times but there's so much info available here that it's sure worth learning. Try "Advanced Search"--put in your "Keyword" then click on "New Gen" forum. If it's a 3 letter word or term (like ECU) add an asterisk (ECU*). Good luck.

Yet another overheating question (this is a long one)
Olnick replied to Arty's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXArty, "search" is one of the most powerful things on this board. Took me 10 seconds to find the following: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=106500&highlight=coolant+burp Good luck. Hope it solves your problem.

My Soob storys..."Kinda long"
"You drove it, you liked it, you bought it... Not my problem"... That really sucks. We all know there are people like that in the world, but someone selling a Subie? Just doesn't seem right!!! When my kids were younger they knew I would never buy a brand new car. They asked how I knew I was getting a decent buy on a used car. I told them you never do really know--but when I go to look at a car I put as much effort into evaluating the seller as I do the car! (And yes, even then I've gotten burned once or twice!) Anyway, keep your chin up, Jake. Machinery comes and machinery goes (but we all know a Subaru is more than just a machine!) Hope all goes well for you from here on out.

Every time someone posts about a GL or DL from the '80s my eyes mist up a little. Mine were wonderful cars. Glad you found your Suby and welcome aboard!

Yet another overheating question (this is a long one)
Olnick replied to Arty's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNo, that's okay. What you pointed out is exactly why we always recommend a Subaru OEM t-stat.

Yet another overheating question (this is a long one)
Olnick replied to Arty's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCan you clarify? What do you mean by "two completely different pieces"?

Drain/Fill Diff - Those pesky plugs
Olnick replied to mr.radon's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHere's what worked for me--see post #3 in this thread: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=78228&highlight=rear+differential+plugs Good luck.

question about Torch Bind
Olnick replied to WalterDeat's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWelcome to USMB, Walter. Just for the record, it's "Torque Bind," not torch. Yes, it will get worse over time if not fixed. I'm no AT expert but others will chime in. First thing to do is check your transmission fluid. If it's old, brown, dirty and maybe smells burnt you should change it. Flush the tranny--or drain and fill at least 3 times. You can search on this forum for technique. That might help reduce the wear at least for now.

2.2 interference issues?
Olnick replied to RussellW's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou're safe--it's a NON-interference engine. Ah, ya gotta love that wonderful old 2.2! While you're in there do all the usual front end stuff too.

Good news---Bad news
Olnick replied to starkiller's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'm not one to run to the doctor for every little ache or pain, but you might want to have it checked out. Medical record could become very important if it comes down to a battle with the insurance company. Sorry it happened. Good luck to you.

Yet another overheating question (this is a long one)
Olnick replied to Arty's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThere are 2 sensors as Suzam said. Look at the engine from the passenger's side--they are towards the rear, under the IACV below the intake/throttle body. The brick red one is the ECTS. Here's a link that includes one of porcupine73's excellent pics: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=75009&highlight=temp+sensor

Yet another overheating question (this is a long one)
Olnick replied to Arty's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDefinitely replace the t-stat with an OEM one. Yes, it could be an air bubble--drain the coolant, replace the t-stat and do the whole burp drill again. Not sure about the ECTS--when I did mine it sure cleared up a lot of running problems, but overheating wasn't one of them. Good luck.

Bought a 1999 Forester, MMO for oil?
Olnick replied to Caramanos2000's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAmen! MMO is, I'm sure, a fine old product and is useful in certain situations. But it should be used as needed and not constantly in a lubrication system.

93 Legacy L - Shifter Bushings (and other questions)
Olnick replied to mentis's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy Kartboys were listed as '97 or '98 and newer--but worked fine in my '95. Don't know about '93. The fellow at TiC was great, cut a shifter bushing specially for me. Again, don't know about sizes for a '93. Truth is, the original bushing wasn't in bad shape, I probably could have lived with it (but the new TiC part felt super smooth so I'm glad I pursued it.) Here's my followup: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=75993&highlight=shifter+bushings Good luck.

Incoming from Cincy
And hello to you, Arty--you're gonna' like this place. Must say you have good taste in cars, especially '95 Legacy 5-speeds. Can't beat that! I guess I've lived through the "Golden Age" of Subarus. Started with an '85 DL wagon, liked it so much we got an '85 GL wagon too. Now I'm driving a '95 Legacy L wagon. Such a sweet engine I'm not sure I'll ever move beyond it. My son in Seattle drives a '92 Legacy L sedan too. Again, welcome aboard.

2000 Outback with 200k
Olnick replied to badjer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWelcome home, badjer! Sounds to me like you have a very realistic attitude about the car. If you like what you see and you're comfortable with the price, I'd say go for it. Just be aware that you might have to invest in new HGs sooner or later. Good luck with your decision.

93 Legacy L - Shifter Bushings (and other questions)
Olnick replied to mentis's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXPretty sure he's still there--I saw him in person in January! Bought them directly from the companies--Kartboy and TiC. You should be able to Google them. The numbering sequence seems weird on that drawing. The "boss" (u-joint) bushings appear to be #4 and #5 but are listed as "6" and "8" in the parts list. Suggest you speak to someone knowledgable (like Jason!) when you order and don't just order by part number. The shift lever bushing is also shown as #4. That's the one I got from TiC. The "stay rod" bushings are #24 and #25. Got these from Kartboy. Good luck!

93 Legacy L - Shifter Bushings (and other questions)
Olnick replied to mentis's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThere are several different sets of bushings in the shift system--shift lever, positioning and universal joint. The u-joint bushings are the ones that usually totally fail. They're Subaru parts. Try calling Jason, the Parts Manager at Mike Scarff Subaru, 866-528-5282. I used aftermarket for the others--Kartboy and TiC: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=68989&highlight=shifter+bushings Gotta' warn you--it's a PITA job . . . but well worth it!
