  1. Congrats, jim. Let us know when it fires up and purrs like a kitten!
  2. Your best deal will be a brand new 2009--after the 2010s are on the dealer's floor. They'll be anxious to move the "old" models. Wait another month then go wheel & deal with them.
  3. Over nearly 25 years have had four Subarii in the family, all with manual transmissions and all purchased used. My "new" Subaru is a '95 Legacy L wagon, our son drives a '92 Legacy sedan. Just love the way they handle, the ruggedness, the dependability. I think the opposed cylinder engine layout is a piece of genius. Plus we feel pretty comfortable working on them even though neither of us is a great mechanic. And I swear they will run forever--provided you just pay attention and keep up with basic maintenance. Oddly enough, much as I love Subaru I have steered friends away from buying them since 1997. The first version of the 2.5 engine was a disaster in my eyes. Understand that the newer ones (since '03?) are okay though. Best of luck with your decision--I think you'd enjoy driving a Subie.
  4. But wait! That's not all!!!
  5. Sounds like a very good idea, johnc. Could be very helpful in the right circumstances.
  6. Congrats Dave. Looks like your 100th post is a happy one! Let's hope the problem is an easy one to fix. But we really need pics! Good luck!
  7. Let the vehicle sit overnight and the pressure will decrease, then just pull the hoses. At least that's how I do it.
  8. How about coming out of the filter? Possible there could be some blockage within the filter?
  9. Sorry Durania, don't know what the 2000 models have. Maybe someone who has one will chime in. Do the pictures in post #7 here help? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=98281&highlight=iacv
  10. I would say definitely have it checked out before a major trip . . . provided you have a transmission shop/mechanic you can trust. Suggest you avoid the national chain places. Hopefully someone on here has more specifics and suggestions about your problem. Good luck.
  11. Can you be sure, in light of the poor workmanship you just found? Don't know your mileage but it might be wise to replace timing belt, check pulleys & tensioner, oil pump, cam & crank seals, maybe replace water pump & thermostat. Good luck.
  12. On the theory that every little helps--did you clean out the hose that leads from the crankcase to the PCV? Good to see your name on here again, Tiny!
  13. Just have to share this. Was reading through the thread and when I got to that I thought-- Omigod! The brakes squeaked so the SOB original owner removed them so he could sell the car! :-\
  14. Porc, you simply amaze me. You're better than Hallmark . . . you have a picture for every occasion! And they're always excellent images too. Thanks.
  15. Good going, Brian--hope it's a sign that it is "fixable." Might be a good idea to do another one or two ATF changes asap, a virtual flush.
  16. Okay, I'm waiting! Sounds like you're taking a good approach with the shop you found, Howard. You might want to ask them (politely) about the possibility of grounding issues--then they'll know you're not totally clueless and that you have friends (USMB) helping you.
  17. 'Course it will. But you know what would happen if you didn't have it!!!
  18. Off topic, but hey, cookie--nice to see your handle on a thread!
  19. Remember that '95 was the first year for OBD2. That will probably affect your ECU, sensors and wiring.
  20. Yeah, the site doesn't help much! Just call and ask for Jason in Parts. Let him know you're a USMB member, then compare his prices with elsewhere. He's always done right by me--and a number of others here.
  21. Or call our buddy Jason in Parts Dept. at Mike Scarff Subaru, 866-528-5282. Nice guy, knowledgable and always had the best prices I could find online. No idea where you are but another trick you might try--gather your prices online then call your local Subaru dealer(s). Sometimes they will match them just to get the business.
  22. Amen to that, Brother. There's always more than one way to skin a cat!
