  1. Help! My Legacy needed a new crank case because it had trouble starting. But I decided Id wait on the repair. Then I went to start it today and it didnt start for about 2 and half minutes like usual. Then Im driving home and the car starts shaking and the check engine light comes on. Are the two problems related or completely different? Any thoughts would be great.
  2. 2001 Impreza RS. Only one head light works. The other is dim and the fog lights stopped working too. ANy thoughts?
  3. No i havent but wouldnt oil still leak out from underneath the car? Because there isnt any there. Could it be a cylinder head gasket. I know I have at least one that is cracked.
  4. A week ago my Legacy started smelling really bad. The left side of the engine is producing this burning rubber/oil smell. I have plenty of oil. Thankfully the car is getting better gas mileage.
  5. Kind of a bummer. Id like to see if I could squeeze out 8,000. It really is in great shape for being 8 years old. But the fact that is 8 years is not good.
  6. I ve decided that I can longer stand driving an automatic. How much do you think I could get for a 96 Legacy GT? 63,000 miles, just had it serviced, no problems and only minor exterior blemishes. ....come on WRX!
  7. I need a new transmission and I'd much rather be driving stick than automatic. So if they could change it and I have to spend the money anyway, why not be happy?
  8. Can a 4EAT trans be converted to a 5 speed manual? Cause I could see the All Wheel Drive getting in the way.
  9. I paid $16,000 for my 96 when I got in 2000. 28,000 miles, 10 disc cd changer. Worth every penny. Actually the dealer had my car marked as L... so maybe I saved some money there. I realized after I got it, how rare the GT is. If only mine were worth some money.
  10. Mine uses a 3/4 quart every 1000 miles and has ever since i got it. And its not leaking oil either, so wheres it all going?
  11. Does anyone elses 2.5L engine, specifically Legacy, use a ridiculous amount of oil?
  12. 4500$, that seems like an awful lot. It might be cheaper to convert the car to manual, if thats possible on a car equppied with AWD.
  13. No it wasnt modified. My mechanic put in platinum spark plugs and told me that they added about 10 HP. Did he lie to me?
  14. Therefore the 2.5L would have more power than most cars in its class. Mine has 175 HP.
  15. Well I wasnt talking about an 2.2L engine. The Legacy GT features a 2.5L engine. Is there a difference? Oh yea, of about 60 HP.
  16. My Gas Guage isnt very accurate. Ive calcualted my gas mileage after two tanks of gas. The first one was 10 MPG and then today it moved up to 12 MPG. No CEL light yet, but Ill keep looking. As for bad gas, my mom puts the same gas in her Lexus and it runs fine and always make sure to put in 89 octane. Any possibility this could be related to my transmission slipping?
  17. Actually it was just tuned up in December. And no, the check engine light isnt lit up.
  18. My Legacy has always gotten poor gas mileage and it was something that I was willing to deal with because the AWD and 2.5L engine is worth it. But as of a week ago its dropped from 20 MPG to 10 MPG! And at $1.80 for a gallon im gonna go broke. Ive been driving it very gently without quick accelerations and I reinflated the tires. Anyone have any ideas or have expirienced the same problem?
  19. 96 Legacy lack of power? You must be mistaken. I have great power unless I put regular gas in it. And if I had a 5-speed, my Legacy would kick some serious rump roast.
  20. Absolutely. This reminds of when my dad came home with a 1988 bright yellow Honda Prelude. Wish we still had that car but it doesnt match my Legacy. If youre looking more for luxury, go for the redesigned Legacy GT. With a 2.5L turbo, youll have more than enough power and a sporty car. I cant wait to get a WRX, but a college student's bank account doesnt offer much.
  21. Are you kidding? Subarus are great. I felt the same way a few months ago when my dealer, who also happenes to be my neighbor, told me I needed to replace my cylliner head gaskets at 60000 miles. This was the first problem I had had with my Legacy and it was gonna cost $1400. I took it to another Subaru dealer and was told that my Gaskets would last another 20000 miles at least. Ive learned that I have to be careful where I take it to be serviced. Any place that wants $230 to replace the light in your dash probably isnt the best place to get your Subaru serviced.
  22. No it doesnt. It will get to about 4500 RPMs slip and then a few seconds later it will go back in and slip out again.
  23. I just checked my oil, which I had changed 1500 miles before. It was below the Low Level. Could this have anything to do with it? And why does my Legacy suck down so much oil?
