Help! My Legacy needed a new crank case because it had trouble starting. But I decided Id wait on the repair. Then I went to start it today and it didnt start for about 2 and half minutes like usual. Then Im driving home and the car starts shaking and the check engine light comes on. Are the two problems related or completely different? Any thoughts would be great.

Oil Usage

Mine uses a 3/4 quart every 1000 miles and has ever since i got it. And its not leaking oil either, so wheres it all going? -
My Gas Guage isnt very accurate. Ive calcualted my gas mileage after two tanks of gas. The first one was 10 MPG and then today it moved up to 12 MPG. No CEL light yet, but Ill keep looking. As for bad gas, my mom puts the same gas in her Lexus and it runs fine and always make sure to put in 89 octane. Any possibility this could be related to my transmission slipping?

My Legacy has always gotten poor gas mileage and it was something that I was willing to deal with because the AWD and 2.5L engine is worth it. But as of a week ago its dropped from 20 MPG to 10 MPG! And at $1.80 for a gallon im gonna go broke. Ive been driving it very gently without quick accelerations and I reinflated the tires. Anyone have any ideas or have expirienced the same problem?

Absolutely. This reminds of when my dad came home with a 1988 bright yellow Honda Prelude. Wish we still had that car but it doesnt match my Legacy. If youre looking more for luxury, go for the redesigned Legacy GT. With a 2.5L turbo, youll have more than enough power and a sporty car. I cant wait to get a WRX, but a college student's bank account doesnt offer much.

Are you kidding? Subarus are great. I felt the same way a few months ago when my dealer, who also happenes to be my neighbor, told me I needed to replace my cylliner head gaskets at 60000 miles. This was the first problem I had had with my Legacy and it was gonna cost $1400. I took it to another Subaru dealer and was told that my Gaskets would last another 20000 miles at least. Ive learned that I have to be careful where I take it to be serviced. Any place that wants $230 to replace the light in your dash probably isnt the best place to get your Subaru serviced.
