Getting to a bolt but between spaces
1-3-2-4 replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNope no rust!, Well I spent like 2 min backing the bolt off so I could hear when it was set.. however I blame myself because I was trying to push that side of the transmission up (other bolt was already in) but it was a lot of force.. I think my car was still on all 4 jackstands 26" high or whatever. but yeah as soon as I set the bolt it got about half way and got mangled big time, I almost thought I had to cut it but the bolt did come out but it got super hot.. just glad I got air tools!

What Have You Done to your Soobie lately? (Please post in here and keep it going)
Fixed that snapped wielded nut for the tranny crossmember.. No more transmission movement on downshifts or just tapping the throttle in low speed or crawling.. that sound and the lurching it would do was annoying! Old New

P0400 EGR flow malfunction
1-3-2-4 replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXahh crap I hope not.. I used a flare nut on the one nearest the EGR and it was starting to round.. I just know when I did the HG's that I ended just taking it off from the head instead.. I haven't tried heat but I don't think I can squeeze a flame in that area last time I looked.

Getting to a bolt but between spaces
1-3-2-4 replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks for the help I finally got it but the bolt I have I guess the people on NASIOC thought I was talking about the tranny mount with the 4 bolts because the one I had was too short.. I think I got a M12 x 1.75 I think 50 mm or 60 I can't remember. I was pretty much spot on.. I wasted time having to go to home depot because I wanted to shampoo the carpets while I had the seats out... An as soon as I about complete the drivers side here comes the friken thunderstorm... I found $.50 of my money that I lost months ago! and some screws I lost  I ended up just cutting the part out because where it was it's connected to a rail which made it too hard to pry up. Thanks for my mom for helping out.. I needed someone to hold the breaker bar inside, I called her and I was like I need your help and she's like I'm setting my hair!

Getting to a bolt but between spaces
I'm trying to get to this bolt here but it's a lot further forward then I thought after removing the carpet. This is the bolt I'm talking about here It seems to be between the ECU and control arm area

97 outback
Yesterday got the rotors in for all 4 and new pads all 4. Put the new headlights in and it's nice to have a good wide view of the road.. While having the car up on all 4 jacks my tires seem a bit unbalanced so I'm getting new tires next month anyways but it was interesting to see the strut top hats jumping up and down. So also with the headlights I need a Tridon EP34 because I had the hyperflash but now it's back to normal.. I think the Stock Subaru is 60 fps but the new one is 80 fps, so a little faster but still looks normal but I prefer the flash flash anyways. Now later today I will cut into the body inside to fix that blasted broken nut for the tranny crossmember!

highway mileage on a 2.5 '97 outback wagon
1-3-2-4 replied to the sucker king's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI can't say how much but I had a improvement in gas mileage when I got new plug wires.. #3 was misfiring because the wire inside broke off so it would hesitate a lot.. What sucked was you know the rubber part around the tip of the plug wires? It got left in the motor somehow and was a pain in the rump roast to get out.. I had to use a coat hanger with a sharp point to stick it and pull it out. I've got a 500 mile trip next month curious to see what I can get on a tank of gas.. I can do 310 here on a tank which is not bad.. better then my other Legacy.

1-3-2-4 replied to the sucker king's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI get better gas milage then that and it's kinda hilly here the way I go... with a mix of Highway/city I avg about 26 MPG with the AC on. The worst was 16 but that's when I did not have 5th gear and a few other stuff I had to tackle.

Foolish way to replace Timing Idler Pulley
1-3-2-4 replied to ycageL urabuS's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThis reminds me some highway crap broke the top part of my driver's side belt cover on my EJ25D I still have the broken part here and I can see the belt clearly.. I need to get around to ordering a cover I just forget what the part number is because I did have it at once point.

P0400 EGR flow malfunction
1-3-2-4 replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhile I haven't had this code come back yet the lines that you say to clean are the rubber lines? I have some mineral spirits here is that ok to use to clean? I've never seen a brush small enough that would fit those lines.

Cover missing under passenger side of car
1-3-2-4 replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI tried looking for that stuff in autozone this morning I did not see it at all.. One also thing I did not notice is it can be used as sound deadening.. anyone try that before? I should check to see what the spray looks like I would like to see if it's worth putting inside on the floor under the carpet.

What Have You Done to your Soobie lately? (Please post in here and keep it going)
Did my brakes today and that's when I found out Amazon sent me the wrong pads for the rears.. good thing when I got this car they had a new box of pads for the rears. The front's were in dire need of replacements.. This picture says it all! After that I finally put in the JDM headlights that I swapped out the projector for the FX-R projectors.. the beam pattern is very wide! The headlights also have a retrofitted LED turn signal

1-3-2-4 replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell I found out from someplace else.. but you have to take the area were the seatbelt is off so you can take the A pillar cover off.. I did not notice those two connect together.

Cooling system vacuum?
1-3-2-4 replied to tlott01's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhen I did my headgaskets (it was a first time for me) I took pictures of the gaskets and you can see what was going on the piston pressurizes the coolant passages as you can see in the picture, it just takes one little spot...

Cooling system vacuum?
1-3-2-4 replied to tlott01's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXblock sealant is not going to work because of how the EJ25D blows head gaskets. It's only meant for phase II motors. I think Fairtax4me had a picture of a block that had that sealant crap in it.. looks like it did more harm then good.. cut down on a good amount of size of the coolant passages.

Cover missing under passenger side of car
1-3-2-4 replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIs that something that's going to be hard to find?

Cooling system vacuum?
1-3-2-4 replied to tlott01's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNot always true.. I drove 630 miles one way on bad head gaskets.. during the final days turning on the AC and all that extra heat would 99% cause it to overheat.. The thing is not to keep it running with no water flowing in the jackets.. I almost got a ticket one night.. I had a blown lower rad hose PLUS bad head gaskets.. so I ended up driving about 4 miles with the temp pegged.. turning the heat on did not do much good since I had no water. Long story short the ramp off the highway was down hill so I shut the motor off and since it was really early in the morning like 3 AM I blew past a red light so I could keep some air flow.. and what do you know a cop is at the light he saw the steam said his smart remark and let me go.

Cover missing under passenger side of car
1-3-2-4 replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSeeing how it has one on the drivers side the only way I can see how it was missing was when someone pulled it out thinking it was something else? I was thinking maybe using some thick window sealant or some RTV would do the trick? I have some precut cutting boards I can cut down to size and cover it.. it's thick enough for it.
