  1. I was younger. Didn't know how to dicker. Is still my daily driver for work commute. (4 mi. round trip)
  2. Bought my '88 GL 4X4 wagon new. Still have the window stickers (~$13,000), manual, finance paperwork, ownercard, tire pamphlet, etc. Currently at ~ 256,000 mi. Jon
  3. Thanks young lady. That's what I thought! I searched for it earlier and didn't find it. Also checked just now and it is not there. He also said he had it posted somewhere else. Jon
  4. I think I froze my brain the last few days. I was wandering around the board a couple of days ago, and saw (I think) a chart that had the measurements and Identification info on front axles. Could anyone point me in the right direction. Thanks, Jon
  5. I've found that getting it off is the easy part. Getting those &^(TI^^^*&^ nuts back on is a tad more difficult. Anyone have a slick way of doing it? Jon
  6. I didn't want to get in trouble, so I searched lots of past posts and didn't find anything. Hoping one of you on the higher plane might have run into this situation. I am still researching! Jon
  7. Have a tale of woe regarding heater core for '93 Impreza. It definately is shot. I researched and found best bet is from a dealer,so far. I ordered the heater core, but then got a reply that included the following. ------------------ PT071001- HEATER CORE Post Date 01/16/2001 12:00:00 AM Source LSNYJSHA Part Number(s) 72130FA000 HEATER CORE Attachments PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT PART NUMBER 72130FA000 HAS SUPERSEDED TO 72130FA001. WHEN 72130FA001 IS BEING USED IN A REPAIR OF A 1993-96 IMPREZA OR A 95-96 LEGACY MODEL, IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO USE THE FOLLOWING AS A SET: IMPREZA, 72130FA001 AND 72120FA001. LEGACY, 72130FA001 AND 72120AC021. ------------------------------------ Part number 72130FA001 is the heater core. Part number 72120FA001 is a new box or case for the core. It is $160. Now: 1 Does anyone know if the new one is smaller or larger than the origonal? (7.5" X 6" X 1") 2 Has anyone replaced these by stuffing/modifying the origonal box? Main concern is just getting heat into the bloody car.(brrrr). My niece has a 60 mile oneway daily commute with no heat. Any ideas? Or anyone have a good core for origonal box in the Wa. state area? Thanks, Jon
  8. Found out I do have to get a new box since Subaru superceded the old core number with a new one. Guess I will ask around the board if anyone either has a core ('93 Imprezza) or have used the "new" core with an "old" box. Jon
  9. Yep, that's what I meant. I posed the same question to Jamie at subarugenuineparts, and she never alluded to it. She seems like a nice gal, answering all my senior questions and working with me to place an order for the heater core. Now that I know the system, I am sure I will be ordering more. Jon
  10. My parts store tried to order a new heater core for a '93 Imprezza. The dealership they were going to get the core from said that they also need a new "box" at $160. What's up with this? Anyone know? Thanks, Jon
  11. You guys made me go look at my old parts. The set I have from an origonal motor shows, as Emily said, that the one with the groove was on the back. Also these had been on so long that there is a definate "shadow", or wear marks on the back of the non-grooved one where the sides of the teeth lived and worked 'lo these many years. The wear marks can also be seen in the pictures htat have been posted prior. Just what I saw. Jon
  12. How did you find that stuff? Thanks to my browser's translate stuff I was able to poke around a bit. The Russian page is a listing of Japanese used stuff for sale. As you said, that number shows for a '93 Legacy 16 valve. Australian one shows for '95 Legacy. Still found notheg about ratios. I am still on the hunt though. It has to be "out there somewhere". Jon
  13. Yeah, only problem is, I don't know what this tranny ratio is so I don't know which rear I would use. Don't know all the configs of this stuff. Turbo ratio same as non? Impreza ratios different from Legacy? Year differances? Red cars vrs. Blue? I'm too old, my brain hurts. Can I slap a Ford 9" in there? They fit in anything. Jon
  14. Thanks guys for your efforts! Don't have the car the engine came out of. It is one of those used engine places. Subaru is really nice to put a HUGE label on the rear diff. Too bad they don't put even a small one on the front, or any indication. Maybe it is an import tranny that fell off the boat. I am still trying to track down info 'cause I really don't want to put this in and have to take it out. Jon
  15. Thanks. I haven't check matched the main connectors. The speedo sensor (?) is cable on Legacy, and electric adapter/sender on Impreza. I believe these parts are swappable though. All along I have had a feeling about this swap, knowing that there are different ratios for all sorts of configurations. Any more? Thanks again, Jon
  16. Spent about 3 hours around the boards yesterday trying to get some info. Working on a friend's car. 1990 Legacy EJ22 wagon. It has a blown 4eat, 4.11 ratio. He picked up a 4eat from an Impreza EJ20, details unknown, from a used engine/tranny place, and was told it will be fine. I got the old transmission out. Before I ruin myself getting the replacement one in, how would I discern if this is a compatable exchange? No ratio identification on either that I could find, but have numbers of: Legacy TZ102ZA1AA-JS Small sticker on bellhousing and trans-140161 Impreza TZ102ZSAAA-C3 Small sticker-673579 Only thing I can confirm is the spline count is the same, and the diameters are the same. Any thoughts? Thanks, Jon
  17. I would REALLY like to come and meet faces. I start racing Sunday, and since I am Pres. of our club, I have to be bright eyed and bushy tailed. Good luck, and hope you have a good turnout. Cheers, Pap
  18. If the stickers work, I will look into a wing, and ground effects. (and some "dubs") Jon
  19. Make sure the bearings are started square. I just tapped them in a little so they were started, and then tightned the nut. I did one side at a time, that way I could ckeck that they were going in square. The PVC is a 2" coupler, threaded on one end and slip for the plug on the other. The O.D. is actually 2 13/16 at the ribs. Jon
  20. Cost more in shipping than the tool itself! It does fit the bearing openings great. I thinkI will refine it with some stickers and such.
  21. Another tool I made. The link http://jon.belandtechnology.com/subaru/bearing%20tool/ has more pics, shows it in use. Jon
  22. Thanks, I thought it was something like that. I have to ship some parts to a member. Jon
  23. People have mentioned "flat pack" for shipping. What is it? Jon
