  1. Rockauto.com has Beck/Arnley kits for about $110. Worth it? I'm trying to keep it under $300 for everything, if possible... Is there a .PDF rip of a FSM available online?
  2. That is kind of what I had figured. Looking on Rockauto.com, I notice that it says headbolt replacement required on a bunch of the HG sets...is this true or just a way to get a little more money out of unsuspecting EJ22 noobs? Are they torque-to-yield? Are the Ebay timing belt/idler/WP kits worth it? Is milling the head a requirement? What prices should I be expecting to pay for these necessary items? Sorry guys, I'm completely new to this particular motor and any idiosyncrasies it may have...and I'm hoping this isn't too expensive of a project, as I need a good reliable car to carry my son and I around in.
  3. The car is a '92 and there are 220k miles on it. I have no idea about the engine, other than it is supposed to be an EJ22...it is N/A. Where should I look for ident numbers?
  4. Looks like my free Legacy has a blown head gasket, since it overheats and there are bubbles in the radiator/puke tank while running. So my question is what all do I need to purchase to tackle this job? I realize I will need a new pair of head gaskets, but what else will I need to do this job right...and where can I easily (and hopefully cheaply) obtain said parts?
  5. Enough times to keep at least one complete spare set on hand.
  6. As far as I know, the Cooper STT's smallest rim size is 15".
  7. If you 'threw a rod', you don't just replace the rod. You rebuild the engine.
  8. Only do this if you really hate the engine and want to buy a new one.
  9. Not sure on the EA81, but all I have for vacuum on my EA82 is the line to the distributor...
  10. No better time to learn than when you are broke!
  11. Don't get me wrong, I'm not leaving...just adding NASIOC to my list.
  12. I think those are 390mm rims. You can actually get tires, but you have to order them. And no, you can't just grind them down.
  13. This weekend I brought home my first car made past 1990, a '92 Legacy. It has a few problems, one of them being the stereo is missing and the wiring harness has been cut. Does anyone have a color-code wiring diagram?
  14. I am rather fond of Toyo Observe G-02s.
  15. Well, it turns out I was mistaken on which car I was getting. The beat-to-hell one in the front yard wasn't it. As it turns out, the Legacy I just drove home (current tabs and everything!) only really needs a rear driver's side window, a stereo install kit and a very thorough cleaning (smoker's car)!
  16. I had thought about that actually...but the Legacy has a pretty rough body (front fenders are okay, but the rest is in poor shape) and is missing a number of parts (a couple windows, headlights, some interior). I think it would be more expensive to fix it up than to do a motor (and possibly trans) swap into my EA...but I could be wrong.
