  1. I got my 500ohm pot yesterday (i love ordering a 50cent part online and paying 7 times more for shipping it> LOL) i was gonna use my usb-obdii scantool to set the gauge. just curious what the temperature is when the gauge is at its normal position (slightly under half is what mine always was) i figure i can run the real time data scan program on my laptop, and then set the gauge accordingly and then put it the propper resistor(s) Do you think it would be worth it to mount the pot in a box under the hood with a knob? otherwise i already have the 500+ various resistor pack from radio shack so making the right resistance isnt a problem.
  2. ok, thats what i did originally. maybe the engine just didnt get hot enough to turn the fan on then. do you know what temp its gotta be to turn it on? i been warming it up till the thermostat opens, which seems to be around 185degrees (give or take) and then it stays around there.
  3. oh you guys and your details... LOL. its a EJ25 engine and ecu out of a 2000 Outback. OR i was thinking, couldnt i just run the ground wire from the coil thru the thermoswitch in the EA radiator? (*i assume thats the thermoswitch on the passenger side of the radiator?) that way when the coolant is hot.. the fan comes on. (duh)
  4. ok, so i have my radiator fan wired into a relay, i'll use a generic relay to illustrate my setup.... pin30 - 12v+ pin85 - 12v+ pin86 - ground pin87 - 12 volts to power fan. fan connector power from pin87, then to ground. I want the ecu to turn on the fan, would i not just connect the b134-pin3 (red/blue stripe) to the ground of the coil? OR would i connect the red/blue wire to the pin85 coil power and connect 86 to ground? OR... am i misunderstanding the function of the Radiator Fan 1 control wire. i assumed it turned the fan on at a certain temp? Thanks in advance! -scott
  5. i'll try to host it or atleast let people know to contact me to get it out if i get it scanned. im just worried the thin paper will be problematic in the feeder.
  6. nah, but i DID however acquire a set of manuals for a 87 XT, its somewhat close, the paper is kinda thin, so i'll have to investigate scanning it after we have our copier feeder cleaned/repaired. Although, i dont know that i really want to destroy the manual set as i'd have to release it from its binding to scan. im not about to do it page by page... f that!
  7. hey man, after i bought my car and drive it for like 6-7 months i came to find i had barely any front half of my rear wheel wells left. the bumpstop things were completely gone, i pulled my rear seatbelt mounts completely thru the body when unbolting them, and my rear suspension tube rusted thru on the ends. its still alive! just have to put some time and effort into an old subaru in wi, i definatly have a better idea of what to look for next time i buy an old car tho, thats for sure. i still have more work to do on my car, that'll come after i finish my motor swap, and before winter. (because there are HOLES in the car. LOL) i love my rusty piece of ************.
  8. ok, im not far off of that, so thats good.
  9. alternater should be good, motor came from a working car that got Tboned last winter
  10. i put my meter on it, with the engine running and ACC off, i get 12.2v (and drops as time goes on, while engine revs it MIGHT jump up .01v or so. engine running and ACC on. i get 14.2v on the meter. that link talked about a 3 wire alternator. however. this alternator only has 2 wires, its got a connector that COULD have 3 wires, but the alternator and connector only utilize 2 wires (no 3rd wire, or 3rd pin on alternator present) its definately not getting overworked as far as i can tell. i dont have a stereo system like you got. actually i have nothing running other than the usual stuff. minus the radio because i didnt put it back in yet.
  11. it seems like my alternator is getting abnormally hot. i have it wired correctly as far as i can tell. the 2 white wires coming off the EJ alternator are spliced to the single wire from the EA alternator and then goes thru the fusible link. the connector on the EJ alternator is wired to the EA connector properly as far as i can tell.. (the one wire illuminates the charge light on the dash when acc on.) ideas? could it just be that all the engine grounds and such just arent connected yet? i know i dont have them all on yet.
  12. for my setup. i used a ejmotor (ej251), a powersteering pump from a 1st gen legacy with the EA reservoir, and the EA pressure and return hoses. they dont line up perfect but they connect. the return hose i think just has to be modified slightly to make it fit better. the ej251 lines i tried to make fit would have needed a 180 degree bend to face the right way.
  13. Powersteering pump solution: 1st gen legacy pump acquired from junkyard. I put the EA reservoir on it, it sits at a slight angle. think thats ok? it just fit better than the legacy reservoir unless i relocate that sensor that is attached to the IM behind it (connects to throttle body? IAC or MAP related?) of course the rear mount bolt busted on the way out.. GRRR. it seems to hold for now with just the 2 front bolts, i'll soak the rear part and see about extracting it when i get a chance. i have to modify the return hose a little bit tho, sits in there kinda funky, atleast thats what i recall from last night when i put it in. im gonna snatch up a ej radiator so i dont have to use my crappy rigged up hoses. i have a on/off switch for power, ign, and my starter is wired to a spare rear wiper switch i put ont he left of the steering wheel. i just have to figure something to trip the accessories etc. i was thinking i could tap the power line going to the ign switch, and then run it to the 'virgin switch' and back to the accessories return on the ign switch connector. or just keep the key handy for that. altough i wanted to go keyless.
  14. hell. last sunday (like 9 days ago) i was working out INSIDE my garage for about 7 hours. i woke up the next morning with sunburn... i think i baked myself!
  15. impotent switch! haha. anything on this...
  16. yeah, i have a guy that is going to get me the name of a place that'll do it. for the same price as junkyard powersteering pump etc i could just have a line made it seems.
  17. yep. that was it. what you guys do for powersteering pressure hose? i tried to bend the EJ one around but it didnt turn out so hot (i used a tubin bender, BUT, it was a cheap manual one, and i bent the damn connection.
  18. Virgin Switch? LOL, im guessing you are right, pending definition of virgin switch. god i feel like a total choad anyways.. i fired up the car, it started no problem what so ever, now i just need some exhaust gaskets, the rear half of the exhaust. some kind of solution for the powersteering pressure hose. and i think thats it. yay!
  19. I AM A DUMB rump roast. Sometimes the blatantly obvious is overlooked.... i will paypal $5 to the person who figures out why my tail lights wouldnt go off.
  20. yeah thats my guess. not wiring related. but where would i find vacuum line to T into for that stuff under the dash? i think i saw a vacuum line on the passenger side of the intake manifold i could T into?
  21. maybe a dumb question but.. Could this be from one of the 2 wires off the alternator possibly? like if they were reversed?
  22. currently... 12v+ directly from the battery, grounded to the body near the center of the car. as far as i can tell its just the tail lights not any other lights... (*tosh.. not the brake lights, at first i thought my dash might have been hittin or sittin on the brake light switch but not the case. i thought maybe a relay was stuck open or something (not sure if they were actually ON a relay or not, i didnt think they were), but i pulled all the relays and didnt make a change. im at work for another 8 hours today after that i'm going to pull the dash back out and double check my ************, and also hopefully i'll be able to start the car today.. or atleast attempt to!
  23. Ok, so i have my wiring somewhat at hand. i power the harness, touch the ignition wire and the fuel pump kicks on for a couple like its supposed to. so. can anyone think of WHY my tail lights might be always on?!?! i pulled the dash out previous to this, before i started the swap, i just noticed it today for the first time, not sure if it did it prior to today, im guessing not since my battery wasnt dead. any ideas?!?! or plugs i may have crossed? its kinda hard to cross a plug in there with all them being colored and different sized.
