  1. check to make sure your choke is closing/opening as it should, before you start it, floor it once to set the choke closed, start it, and once it warms up it should open all the way. If it doesn't open all the way, it will cause studders and such. also change that fuel filter
  2. My first car, 8 years ago, was a 1987 Subaru STD Hatch, 1.6l CARB, fwd 4spd. It was a stripped down base model and I have never seen another. Nor can I find Pics of one on Google. Mine had round 7" headlights and was white. Well I had some pics of it a while ago but they were lost on a computer drive that died (stupid maxtor 20gig) and I would like to show my fiance (another soob nut) exactly what I'm talking about. Does anyone own one? I want some pics, also might be willing to buy one if the price is right.
  3. Harley owners only look because they think its another Harley

a puertorican friend with a 93 Subaru impreza awd 5door and a chain is what I carry with me to the mud trails lol. Plywood, 2x6's, Take some 2x6's and notch them with a circular saw about 1/2" deep, by 1/2" wide, every 3 inches. Then knock the notches out with a chisel. Those work good. also, you can use an array of household items. Also, Never go off roading without a good high lift jack, had my 3ton save me plenty of times on the trail, and my stock scissor jack wont always get high enough to slide plywood under a wheel.
  5. X2. Just did that the other day when my axle went kaboom while I was backing up at full lock
  6. I have a TOPSPEED PRO-1 on mine, and I get WRX headsnaps when I rev at lights and such. It sounds great, and I am completely satisfied as I paid $40 for it on craigslist.
  7. Feel free to jack this thread, I need to finish the roof. I am quitting smoking, when I do, my grandma is giving me 500 bucks, so a 4" lift is soon in the works. My friend works at pick n' pull and can get me steel rims with "bad" tires for $5 each. thanks for the compliments and such, like I said, keep this thread going.
  8. My shifter bushings are Pieces of rubber fuel hose crammed in with different bolts. WORKS AWESOME!!!
  9. Well I thought I would start a mod thread, Post up the things you have done to your car recently! Here, I will go first: Monday, Labor day, I was bored so I turned The Yetti (my car's former name) Into the UAV(Urban Assault Vehicle) Yes the roof isnt finished, but I had run out of paint and cash Here's some pics Then I added a sub ans organized all my shtuff into some russian ammo boxes i got for free from Cheaper Than Dirt, via craigslist. What Have YOU done to your rig lately?
  10. Glad to hear she is good to go again. I am fighting my car, trying to avoid headgasket doom. I consume water at a rate of about a quart every 100 miles. I want to buy all the new seals, oil pump, belts ect before I put the old girl down for a tearapart
  11. try adding Marvel Mystery Oil to that cylinder and forcing it past the rings by cranking it with the plug in, just a little at a time, do this multiple times, you may have a stuck ring. My first car was a 87 STD Hatchback and did the same exact thing to a T. I added MMO and reinstalled the plug, drug it around the block with a truck, letting out the clutch, key off, to force the MMO past the rings. Cleared the smoking up right away and I put 12k more miles on that motor, then blew a HG. That was a good car and hooked me on soobs for life.
  12. I am not sure about your state laws with insurance, but here in Texas, as long as someone is not specifically excluded (ie listed as non driver on policy) then the insurance covers the car, and HAS to pay. Pursue the insurance company, their just trying to juke you
  13. check and make sure the plug wires arent wet. That could cause jumping spark and no start
  14. His particular TOD may have actually been preignition ping from carbon... my 2c:rolleyes:
  15. check the teeth in your hubs. make sure the axle nuts are torqued to Hades.
  16. take the spark plugs out. You wont have to fight compression then.
  17. hit the starter solenoid with the handle end of a hammer. Have a friend bump the key while doing so. If it starts, sticking solenoid, replace starter.
  18. check your caliper pins, then try adjusting the pedal freeplay under the dash
  19. I second tom, suck half the can, kill it, start it up and let it run until some of the smoke clears, then suck in the other half a can. kill it, then start it up and let it idle for a while occasionally revving it a little to blow out your cat. until the smoke goes away. My EA82 had 169k on it when I did it, and it smoked for 45 minutes. The throttle response and power increase was amazing!!
  20. ***Edited for spelling and clarity*** Ok. I have a new question. What is the stamp difference between the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation EA82t heads?
  21. Sell your subaru to a real subaru nut who will de-rice it and give it a good home, 1. Buy a civic, 2. buy a STOCK Integra LS B18a block with stock internals, 3. bolt a B16a head on it, 4. bolt a t3/4 turbo on it, set the wastegate to "14" PSI 5. run an untuned hondata s300 with junkyard DSM 450cc injectors 6. bolt it into the civic to a stock transmission 7. BLOW UP A CAR WE DONT GIVE A CRAP ABOUT!!! Rice out a car that nobody cares about, not a GL-10. Nobody cares how much "power" you have gotten from a EA82T at "14" PSI. If you are that bent on attaining power, please just stuff a ej257 in it an just leave it alone, instant power... NO BLOWN EA82t's. JEEEEZZZZ!!!!! My rant is done....
  22. When they overheat, the hottest point is between the cylinders on the head. The notorious leak happens there where the coolant jacket is.
  23. Welcome to EA82 land. I put water in mine every day. Sucks the coolant overflow dry, then fills it up upon boiling. I just pinched the radiator line with a zip tie, keeps it under control
