  1. Just talked to my friend who drove a '94 EJ22 manual from the east coast to the west coast with three adults, a heavy bark chipper in the back, and speeds of 80 mph, and got 29 mpg averages. Not too bad.
  2. Turtle Wax. The cheapest stuff. It nice because it has more grit than most wax and can take road tarnish off better. But I wouldn't wax a car with it every month since it's harsher on the paint for the same reason.
  3. Saw an ad for the new Turbo Legacy. Said has 250HP. Is that at the crank or at the wheels? Same question: When car manufacturers advertise HP are they giving numbers at the crank or at the wheels? Seems to me they would use the crank since that number would be higher.
  4. So-so coldness with Gen 1 Legacy. It cycles cold and luke-cold. Doesn't bother me too much. It also clicks a lot. Which bothers me more.
  5. Who has a high mileage machine out there? From my Volvo days I remember grill badges for 100k, 200k, 300k, etc, mileage marks. Anything like this for Subarus?
  6. Work schedule will determine. Won't know till Friday. Hope I can make it.
  7. The boot is newly installed with the axle. Work was done by a local garage. Seems like they could have done a better job making sure it was seated properly.
  8. Are CV boots designed to work only if they are in the "accordian" position? If one of the ridges was out of place and sticking down where it should be sticking up, could this cause premature tearing/wear?
  9. I get 44 mpg. When I drive my girlfriend's Honda. \ Most I've squeezed out of the EJ22 is 34, which was with one heck of a tail wind. Average is more like 28. I can't wait til there is snow again and I can feel better about taking the Subaru instead of the Honda.
  10. Think of the ridges on a CV axle boot. Would the following shorten the life of the boot: One of the ridges is pushed down. It's like there is a vacuum inside the boot and when the ridge is pulled out into the proper position/shape, it sucks back down. Seems like the design of the boot requires that all the ridges should be the furthest from the axle as possible.
  11. On my Gen 1 EJ22 there are four bolts on the outer part of the flexplate. If you haven't already found it, the access panel should be slightly on the passenger side, right behind the top of the engine.
  12. Maybe a little old fashioned but any time I see an ad (Toyota, Volvo, Mercedes, come to mind) that illustrates the high mileage a vehicle can get, I'm impressed. I know friends with 300k plus on their boxer engines.
  13. CV Axle on the passenger side. Engine seals might need replacing. They look a little wet. But no drips yet.
  14. I'd like to see stories on a mix of Subarus from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s. Not just late models.
  15. A cheap solution you can try is transmission fluid additive. I've heard mixed results from these products. But they work for some situation. ie, ease rough shifting, add a few more months life to transmission, etc. There's lots of companies that offer products. Try looking for Lucas products Transmission Fix.
  16. Can't do the 3rd. Possible I could make the 10th. Will stay tuned for updates.
  17. Having a secure trunk is one of the main reasons for my wanting to switch. Do you need medium or premium grade in a turbo? What kinda MPG do you see.
  18. Rethinking my needs I'm looking at switching from a wagon to a sedan. From any onwers of turbo Legacy's, what feedback and opinions do you have. Is the gain in HP and turbo worth it? In it a headache to maintain?
  19. So if a car can be totaled and not show up on Carfax, can a car be fine and Carfax show it as being in an accident? Generally if a car is in a major event it gets a salvage or rebuilt title. Is there anyway for someone to take a slavage/rebuilt title and get a clean title for it?
