This is a very interesting topic. Thanks Ted I have heard (by word of mouth only). That when using alcohol in fuel, your engine lubricants break down much quicker so you will need to change your oil more frequently. Like i said this is a roomer but can anyone confirm/deny? I believe the argument is that the alcohol works as a detergent (unintentionally) and lowers viscosity causing more wear.

I had a simiar problem in my 2000 2.2L Outback Sport. There was actually an ECU a flash update available to fix a high idle glitch. Apparently it was a problem in all 2.2s in 2000. You should call your local dealer and see if there is an update for yours. It worked for me. I got all the same types of codes before the flash and the diagnostics turned back no problems with any of the sensors. My problem was compunded however by a bad cat. They replaced the cat under warranty. So thats my 2 cents before you go replacing expensive sensors, try a free phone call to cover all the bases. P.S. I have not had a CEL since the CAT replacement and reflash.

I am (have been for a long time) getting a clanking sound when i put on the breaks to stop. Usually it is after fairly hard acceleration. The sound is definitely coming form the front, and seems like it might be something to do with the breaks. The car still stops fine and the antilock works as it is supposed to (They suck! ). Anyway Do the disk breaks in front shift or something? The sound is similar to the 1980s VW Golfs, when they go over bumps the front breaks rattled. Its that type of sound only it is a singular clank and only when stopping. (might be from both sides...cant tell) The vehicle is a 2000 Imprezza outback-sport. 2.2L NA Manual

i like the idea. I am sure it is the molding. this vehicle does not have an upper door so the glass closes right against the rubber seal. as you know the seal has a specific hollow shape, sort of like the letter D on its back. in this specific spot it appears as if the the hollow has colapsed and the whole thing has sort of squashed to th einside of the cabin so its not a tight seal. Im not sure how or why this happened. but the rubber is now what appears to be permanently in that shape. i cant just press it back with my hands. so i was wondering if heating up might let me re form it. But i dont want to try it if it will cause further dammage. I have not priced out a whole door seal. but in my experience with replacing one on my '78 nova, it is very difficult to get it all in evenly and in the proper place.

The drivers side front door weather stripping down by the mirror has squished out of shape. Now it doesnt give a very good seal. anything over 60mph I get a loud wind noise and a cold draft. It is more annoying then anything else, so i dont want to replace the rubber around the whole door. Im hoping there is a way to get it back to shape. I'm thinking of trying a hair dryer to heat it up any experiences or other ideas? Vehicle: 2000 Imp. OB. Sport.

thanks for the info. sounds like they are good tires. They better be for the price. I am somewhat undecided between getting the goodyears or The Yokohama Avid. I found some info that Hancook (sp?) are pretty good and very affordable too. tires are a tough subject because opinions vary drastically. The goodyears were rated #1 in their class so thats why i was looking at them.

Does anyone have any experience with the new Goodyear Assurance Tripple Treads. The size i'm looking at is 205/55 16. My vehicle is a '00 Imprezza outback sport. I see that these tiresgot great reviews on tire rack (except for excessive road noise) but the price is very high. I want to know if they are worth the $650 it would cost out the door. P.S. Various sites reccomend optional sizes of 205/55 16 -Or- 215/50 16 I know the 205s are standard for subaru's in 16", but are the wider & shorter 215s safe to use?

Lets not knock jeeps too bad. They are different from subarus. not garbage. I got 150K miles out of a 98 wrangler with NO problems and then sold it for $5K. in perfect working order. It was a very reliable and fun vehicle. which is capable off road, even bone stock. Just because you are in love with one kind of 4wd vehicle doesnt mean you cant appreciate another. jump off the subaru is the ONLY good vehicle band wagon for a moment.

Why are we talking about this on a Subaru board?? Good point. Neither are dirrect competition for Subaru. i personally dont think the rav 4 is really going to do that much dammage. Were only taking about a small a segment of the larger general all wheel drive family car market. Lets face it. no car company can afford to compete in every subset. The way i see it, (from a financial analyst's standpoint) Subaru has a choice to make. Invest the capital to commpete in a subset of modern Atomic family market with a sporty 7 seater, or maintain the global view and offer one broader model (Tribeca) for the large family size market, and the Forrester or legacy outback for the midsized family market. putting yet another model in between to bridge the gap in both size, "sportyness" and price may not give enough value to subaru.

Funny ist that what Honda said when they built the element? and this car is just a slightly better looking cosin. Not a chance they will unseat Jeep. The wrangler will still be far superior from a performance standpoint then the FJ can hope to be. remember the wrangler is not and never will be designed to be economical, and Toyota will never build a car where functionality will eclipse gas mileage and low cost materials. So wrangler has the actual 4-wheel enthusiast market held solid, And youre forgetting one fact. Wrangler comes in a soft top, which corners the rich college kid market too.

thats what i was figuring. They were right that i am fairly low on oil by the end of my 4K miles. this has been typical for most 4cyl cars i have owned. for some reason the v8s seem to eat oil less..????? With checking oil every other fill up, which would be every other week for me, should i keep it topped off or just keep an eye on it?

In the winter I go to valvoline for oil changes because i have no garage and its freaking cold in central PA. So last time they told me that I was low so my engine is consuming oil (duh!) and i should be using their "Max-life" at the very least ($45) and i should seriously consider switching to synthetic ($75-$100 depending on mix) Okay have a 2000 Imprezza Out Bank Sport with 72,000 miles. So still just a teenager by subaru standards. Would you consider it time to switch to somthing different then regular oil aside from the obvious regular advantages of synthetic. I have always experienced some oil loss between changes, I usually dont add any between changes. My regular frequency is about every 4,000 miles

Im getting new feet today from grossgary. WRX 10 spoke 16's. I have the same color OBS. mine is a 2000. That is a creative snorkle you made there. I like it... question though since the intake mouth seems to follow the contour up your windshield does it still suck in water that moves up the glass from either the initial bow wave or from regular air flow in the rain? I do see a possible advantage with a ram aitr affect.
