  1. I just might. Its pretty much just a bug distributor, and i have plenty of bug stuff, so i'll give it a try.
  2. So I got about 175psi out of the cylinder. Then I did a leak down and it was very good. It has spark(I put the plug and wire from the running cylinder in there and same thing). So now the only thing I can think of is one or both of the valves not opening up properly. Is that a common thing with these engines? Maybe a clogged manifold? Thanks
  3. I know the engine is a ea81. Says it right on the engine. The car is a '83.
  4. Yep. its a bit of a rough project but it will be good for what i want it for.
  5. Subarus early forms of traction control.... 4x4 and 84 hp ensures no tire slippage, even in those low traction situations. Good thread!
  6. Im wondering if its a bad idea to jam through the gears in 4 low. It would sure help my gl if i could drive around in 4low(though hurt the half shafts and fuel mileage)
  7. Great advice. I have been a vw bug guy for 4 years so I do know how the engines work(they are EXTREMELY similar). I havent seen a drop of oil, and there are no bad knocks. It does make some valve noise, so maybe they need a quick adjustment. I'll let you guys know what happens with the compression test. Im kind of eager to find out myself. I bet it would be way fun with 4 cylinders...
  8. Its got ok power, but if i pull the plug wire on the passenger side near the radiator(new to subies, and don't know cylinder numbers) it doesn't affect driving or idle at all. I think the car needs a good once over also. So where can I find parts for the ea81, and things like trans mounts? Thanks! Heres a pic of the car
  9. I'm also curious on the gauge cluster. The volt gauge reads around 8-10v all the time. My old car, and most of the ones I see stay around 14. Also, the oil pressure gauge doesn't work. It just stays at the very bottom. I know its got pressure because I drove it an hour yesterday, and been driving it a lot today. The thing gets like 15mpg lol. Its also leaking inside, so when I go out to start it up, its got lots of ice on the INSIDE of the windows. I think it also needs trans mounts as the whole engine and trans moves quite a lot when put into 4wd.
  10. I'm the above mentioned "Chris". Im ready to go wheelin'... Just picked up a 83 GL
  11. What do I need to look for to go from a 4 speed to 5 speed in my '83 GL. Does it just bolt in? Sorry for the thread hijack.
  12. No kidding. Mine has trouble reaching 60mph haha. Cool story.
  13. I think its time for an engine rebuild. My EA81 runs on 3. It has spark to the plug and the plug looks fine. Im going to do a compression test tomorrow. Anyways, are these things easy to rebuild? Im thinking new rings, maybe bearings. Might lap the valves in, what all do these engines need? Its in a '83 gl wagon with a 4" lift and 28" swampers. Also thinking about a 5 speed swap, but i think the 4 speed would be fine if all 4 were firing.
  14. I have a '72 xl250 i ride around. Fun bike.
  15. My dad has a 924s. Make sure you do mainainence. His timing belt broke and F'd the engine. Was super fast and fun though.
  16. Dang. I'll be there next year. Looks like a kick.
  17. Welcome aboard. Post up some pics of the brat. We like pictures!
  18. Welcome aboard. Lots of subaru guys in this area. You have a PM!
  19. Might be interested. Let me know.... I'll bring my xt6.
  20. I'll see if im busy that day or not. Might have to drive the xt6 down there.
  21. seeing as this is my first subaru, i didnt even know it wasn't factory. It sure looks like its made to go there. Neat.
  22. The antenna is not hooked up right now. I want to find a way to get it to retract. I dont have a radio in there right now.
  23. Wow, i went and looked at a perfectly fine looking connector, and when i pulled it off, it broke into 3 pieces. The inside of the connector was all green and corroded. When i tried cleaning it out(because its my daily car, and i need to drive it today) it just broke it more, so i just put two small crimp type spade connectors on the wires, and plugged them in. It runs a lot better now, it starts easier, and it runs smoother. It still has a slight misfire every once in a while, but i think thats due to a sparkplug grounding out somwhere(i can see spark on the outside of the plug). Thanks for the suggestion. You were right.
  24. The airbag setup it has right now is fine. I was taling about the axles when i said i'll take them off the other xt.
  25. Sorry i didnt answer you. I beleive they are the original airbags, but the pump and stuff was removed. It has valve stem type fittings in the engine compartment and the trunk to raise and lower the car. The reason its so far up is because the cv's were clicking when it was lower. I might have to go take them off the xt at the local partsyard here.
